Historic review for my own database. Visited a few times over the years. Used to be a decent ticking venue but, I seem to recall, had a period of closure. On my last visit there wer about half a dozen cask beers from the safer end of the spectrum. It’s quite a handsome building but the interior is a bit nondescript. Note that is not so much closed as reopened withr new lessees under its original name, the Black Horse. I don’t know how much the place has changed under the new regime.

Traditional boozer just a little trot outside the centre of York. Televisions seem to dominate the proceedings in here. There are a few Real Ales available, mostly local to York. Large rooms and a small outside area.

A traditional British pub located outside the walls, but still not more than about a ten minutes’ walk from the center. Divided into different rooms with a library-like room as the most popular of them. Offers six cask ales from breweries like Castle Rock, York, Copper Dragon and Roosters. Gives a partial run-down and worn out impression. (visited, 26.01.2013).

A mixed crowd featuring the business type as much as students gather in this pub just north of the city center, but still in the Heart of York and North of the cathedral. Juke box-type dark pub, rather calm on my visit. 5 guests real ales battle the usual continental offerings and do it finely as 4 of those I’ve not seen anywhere else in york. Perhaps not necessarily worth the detour if you’re in York for only one day, but you’d want to visit on your 2nd day. A different pub.. and large than most of the city centre’s.
