Good range of uk macro beers and ciders along with a small selection of local beers and international beers. Depending on areahave some more unusual foreign beers and sahki. NoNothing left for to try now unless they get a new beer in.

I have been to the big Tesco extra in Eastbourne, as well as at the Tesco extra in Ryde / IoW. Both supermarkets had a big selection and I found many, many new beers. Not only mainstream stuff, but also some craft beer gems from all over the world. Worth a visit.

I always got the impression that Tesco was supposed to provide a less thrilling, lower quality experience than Sainsbury’s which should translate in a lower price point. I never actually bothered to verify this theory by comparing prices etc. Anyway that is just a general impression I always got and this sort of translates into the beer selection. I had no qualms about going here for food that keeping in mind that I almost once choked on a piece of plastic that in a can of Tesco value tomato paste that I used to make dinner. The kind of stuff I am led to believe you can sue people for in the States. Keeping that given in mind still for beer, the selection at Sainsbury’s always seemed to be more inviting to me. If you are visiting the UK, there is definitely plenty to tick here but in that case you are not desperate for new tick’s. I have always opted to swing by Sainsbury’s if I was going for some Supermarket tick’s. That or you can always just go to the boozer, it always seemed while there is no shortage of bars in London, beer stores are a trickier affair.

I really don’t like Tesco - one of the major supermarket chains in this country – not least because of their policy of buying up properties (including pubs) and doing their damnedest to put local shops out of business. We now have two of the small “Tesco Express” branches within 5 minutes walk of home. I try not to patronise them but, when I do, I very occasionally spot an unusual beer or two. (Last visited 11 July 2013).

Not as good as Sainsbury’s when it comes to craft. More your macro stuff - San miguel, stella, heineken, carling .etc. Fuckin cheap though. You can literally buy beer here for 50 pence a pop. Crazy

Supermarket giant located across the UK. I don’t shop at them too often - dont agree with their macho attitude in needlessly opening branches just to put smaller guys out of business. That aside the beer range is ok for a supermarket. Nothing too exciting but micro stuff from all over the UK and a spattering of foreign numbers. The UK stuff is a bit samey and lumped from a pool of brewers - cos this makes it cheaper for Tesco and they make more £££ of course! They don’t tend to invest in local brewers - that would be too difficult for this corporate whore (yes you can tell I’m no fan of Tossco - but I’ll keep my ratings fair as always!) and they wouldn’t make as much profit! Hoorah for Waitrose in this respect ! Again - local/regional variations apply in this respect. The range differs from branch to branch and despite the Tesco nearest to where I live being a mahoooosive store I’ve seen a better range in smaller branches so it can be pot luck in that repsect. Always offers available ie 3 beers for £5 from certain choices.

The map shows the headquarters of Tesco. Like most of the big supermarkets they have a decent selection of ales, most popular lagers and plenty of own brands of both. They also do a good line in foreign beers in most of their larger supermarkets. The selection is limited to popular brands in their smaller stores.

As far as supermarkets in the UK go, Tesco by far has the best selection of foreign beers and have to be respected to an extent for bringing on board a lot of these imports which is helping the mainstream palate develop... I remember tesco before they got on board with the imports and there is no comparison. Quite a handy place to pick up some decent beers, though I wouldn’t restrict myself to it... support local shops as much as you can.
