I used to visit this place every time I’d go to Pizza Port but now it’s more like once a year.
Plenty of beers available including some lesser hyped locals and of course the popular stuff that everyone wants. The owner knows a fair amount about beer so just ask if you’re looking for something. Over all the store is very small but in the small area they’ve managed to squeeze a lot of stuff in.
My only complaint is that the pricing has gone steadily upwards in the last couple years, not that it was ever "cheap" to begin with.
Just up the street from Pizza Port. Not a huge store, but quite the large selection. Unlike a lot of places, beer really seems to dominate. Huge selection of local San Diego beers as well as stuff from all over the state and world. Prices are on the high side here, though.
World class bottle shop. The selection is the best I have found in the San Diego area. Loads of local stuff. Some Pliney on my stop. The guy working there was enthusiastic and helpful without being annoying, which is great. He told me and some other customers about the Goose Island Bourbon County stuff he was keeping behind the counter. The value is good to begin with but they also offer volume discounts: buy six bottles get the seventh for a nickel, buy 12 bottles the eleventh and twelfth for a dime. Not bad. Not bad at all. This place is a five-minute walk from Pizza Port Carlsbad so take them both in on one visit.
Visited later in the evening. Service was prompt and very friendly. The beer is laid out in one long aisle, racks on one side, coolers on the other. The selection was pretty great, and the prices were very fair. I found 12 or so bottles pretty much right away, and would have bought a ton more if it wasn’t for our friends at the TSA. If you are just going to bottle shop, I would recommend this place over the Pizza Port bottle shop due to selection and price. If you want to hang out a bit, PP is a better option, of course. I believe I receive a free bottle based on a case purchase.
82 = ★★★½ (Solid place, near the top of the list for locals and visitors)
I only use the total score, not the component parts.
underated bottle store. Great selection of the locals, their complete line, and harder to get Califormia beers. Priced at the going rate, with hours much more convenient than the Pizza Port bottle shop.
This place is a 5/10 minute walk from Pizza Port, so if you are in the area why not? An impressive selection of 500+ bottles awaits! Beer pretty much takes up half of this fairly sizeable liquor store. Most beers are bombers. Comprehensive selection of California and US, with a few gems like Alpine. European selection is also solid with harder to get stuff like LoverBeer sours. Prices were definitely on the high side in comparison to other places I visited in California. Even though the selection was massive I didn’t see too many beers that I couldn’t have got elsewhere. Still well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Walking distance from Pizza Port Carlsbad and across the street from 83 Degrees. Big parking lot. Huge interior that is stuffed with bottles and center shelf makes for a cramped experience. Almost everything is fridged though and they have a huge selection. Was able to find some Bruery RS only stuff for sale along with the new Almanacs. Hair of the Dog, normal Upright offerings, more bizarre imported stuff. Lots to take in. Prices were reasonable, nothing too shocking. They had Duck Duck Goose for sale in a locked cabinet, but I didn’t dare ask the price.
visited on 26th May 2015. Bloke behind the counter was not interested in helping me what so ever. I explained I was trying to drink around America and had a list of states I need beers from: he just pointed to the beer isles and said help yourself (or I think he said that). The beers are all over the place; no sorting by brewery, style, state or country even. Plenty to choose from but useless for me (a Brit on tour). I chose four beers and a bottle of dark rum and was paying when a young chap came in and he was introduced as ’the beer knowledge guy’ or something similar. Anyway he helped me find a new State from my list and was most helpful and chatty compared to the original guy. So it all ended up fine. Cheap it is not though. I just hope the beers once opened are in good condition.
