I finally got the chance to visit the historic downdown Charleston area and the highly rated Charleston Beer Exchange. Having been to their Greenville location before, I can safely say that this one is nearly identical. I love what these guys do; just beer, an excellent selection, growler stations, clean and well-organized, while having a friendly and very knowlegeable staff. A must stop for the craft beer fan if in the area.
Visited here while on vacation in late December ’15. Cozy little bottle shop in the historic district. Excellent selection of craft beer, lots of locals and regionals. Have a growler station with about dozen locals it seems. All sixers can be broken up and prices were very reasonable especially considering the location. Worth a stop if strolling around Charleston.
Being one of the more well regarded bottle shops in the region, I had to stop in. Close to a number of cool sites in the downtown Charleston area, so you may very well be near here anyway...might as well stop in.
This shop is pretty tiny, but they do a lot with the space. Singles available, mixed sixers, plenty of larger sized bottles as well. And growlers to go. Selection is certainly focused on local/regional beers and breweries, but lots of good imports from all over Europe and some Asian offerings as well. All the big boys from the East Coast, too. Good selection of all sorts of beers. A lot of stuff is out on shelves, but a good number of cold offerings, too. Perhaps one of my few knocks on the place.
Quite knowledgeable and helpful in terms of the staff and fair prices on everything.
Wonderful beer store, with lots of stuff I’ve never seen before from the local area and from Europe. Great selection packed into a tiny little place. Friendly service as well. A must stop in if you’re in the area.
Really small shop, but packs a great selection into the space. A great selection of singles including a good selection of both local stuff as well as international beers. Growler station with around 6 taps and numerous sizes of growlers available. Really nice shop, I will stop back anytime I am in Charleston.
A tiny shop with a great beer selection - local brews plus some of the best from Europe. I’m not a great shopper but this place is lovely and the service was friendly and knowledgeable.

Visited on Wednesday 18/02/15 around 4pm.
Located downtown and around a 5 minute walk from the Souhend Brewery and Smokehouse, the Charleston Beer Exchange is a small shop in an old building on a side street heading towards the waterfront.
In addition to the bottles (looked like a good few hundred to me, but nowhere near 900 in my experience of things) there were also 10 tap lines for growler pours.
The selection was a good mix from around the world, US local, national, a shelf of Mikkeller beers, lots of De Molen, lambics (but no Cantillon for those searching), German etc etc.
Service was very friendly and they tried to find me a few CDA ticks to no avail!
Solid bottle shop and no doubting the best in the area but not in the world class bracket for me.
Visited after they tapped Westbrook Mexican Cake and were filling growlers! Tremendous customer service and knowledge about their products. Space is quaint and used to perfection!! Wish this beer heaven was closer to me!!
