My favorite stop during my weekend in MN. Very cool and spacious place with an amazing beer selection. Goose Island Bourbon County Coffee was the standout. Good service from Charles, who was behind the bar during both visits we made here. Chatted us up when he wasnít running around pouring drinks and was attentive. Stopped in for brunch on Sunday and they had a jazz band playing up front with football on the flat screens in the background. The #1 spot on my list next time through.

Minnesota used to be near the bottom of the craft brew scene. Not anymore! Every time I visit the twin cities, I find something/somewhere new.
The Happy Gnome is one of my favorite places to experience the exciting upper midwest beer scene and beyond. each of the three visits, I sat at the bar- attentive, knowledgable staff, great selection, awesome food. The patio looks inviting, but I was there in late Oct., and again in March.
Just visited late April again THG is approaching world class although it still lacks the character of say The Horse Brass Pub in Portland or the Map Room in Chicago, itís still an amazing place in the Midwest beer scene.
Can be too busy 6-8pm, and too many martinis, foo-foo drinkers in the crowd.
This is perhaps the best place in the Twin Cities to get a good beer. They have an enomous selection of craft beer and very good food. Service is good and servers are extremely knowledgeable and helpful regarding beer recommendations. Great ambiance and not bad parking situation either. It is a bit pricey but well worth it.
Great selection of Surly, regional and USA craft. Above average selection of imports. The food was the weak point for me. But itís a great place in an especially dead St.Paul (i.e. streets empty after dark). It was busy, bight and great for the table of 6 business people we were. Something for everyone from a brew point of view.
This is one of my favorite places to go get beer nearby the apartment. The selection is absolutely fantastic and changes daily so there is never a shortage of new beers to investigate. The spirits menu is great, too, with lots of good old-school mixed drinks, whiskeys, and Scotches on hand. Food is really decent, too. Iíve had a number of good meals here. There arenít any great deals here, but considering their buying practices, it makes sense (they canít do $3 beer because they donít buy giant orders of Bud and Miller -- if you focus on the small guys itís going to cost you). Most of the servers are very pleasant and the bartenders know their beer if you can get them at a slow moment (I suggest going later on a weeknight). The patio outside is great and the inside is just fine.
My favorite place to drink beer. Especially out on the patio in the summer. Great selection 70 taps + 200 plus bottles= Good times! The food is great, and you have to try the cheese. They also have many events throughout the year like Firkin Fest!

The Happy Gnome is an awesome bar, and one of the best places to get a beer in the Twin Cities. The selection of beers on tap is probably the best in the cities. The food is excellent, but more upscale than what I usually want when Iím out drinking a couple beers. It is a bit pricey, but I think you get what you pay for in this case. If you avoid the food, it is much more reasonable. The service is generally good, but I have run into a few strange servers. On the inside the place looks like many other upscale bars, but gets lots of points for the awesome deck area outside. They also hold some great events, tastings, beer dinners etc. Highly recommended.

My favorite place to get a beer in the cities! Excellent and varied taps - over 30. Great feel to it - slightly older crowd- probably due to their pricier dinner menu- but food is very good for a bar. Great patio in the summer, but service is slower out there.
