Easily the best beer bar in Oz, going by range alone. Focus on local craft but every now & then get imports like rogue, mikkeller & nogne o but hell they arent cheap! Doubt its their fault though. Have been many times when both busy & quiet. Service is always pretty good, friendly & willing to recommend etc Food is pretty good, though i understand they are introducing some more interesting meals & moving a little away from pub grub. Been to a few of the monthly ale stars sessions & seasonal beer fests, both are great but get pretty rowdy & busy, meaning you have to wait a while at the bar but not too big an problem. Only issue would be that the beers are served too cold. All style seem to be the same temp, which i’m not too fond of. Other than that, its an awesome venue & a must
Nice bar a few minutes walk from Balaclava station. When I arrived the roof was shut but they opened it up whilst I was there and it gave the place a different feel. 20 taps of mostly Aus / NZ beers, a wide variety of styles covered. Service was fine. Taster paddles are served, any 5 beers for $17.50 with a free glass of peanuts
Atmosphere is pretty impersonal and a weirdly formal shitty pub vibe. Staff were downright rude. Decent tap selection, and you get free crackers with your paddle! Bottle selection was good but very expensive. Soft drink selection was just a soda gun, much to the chagrin of my designated driver. Bit disappointed. I feel like this place's high rating is more to do with its legacy than its current state. The other bars I visited in Melbourne had equally good taplists but had put effort into everything else as well.
Awesome place, just as good as (if not better) than the Sydney location with several floors of seating area. Great taplist of 25 beers -- you can do custom paddles of 5 beers for $17.50 which really isn’t too bad for Melbourne. Service is friendly enough. A must stop when in town.
Best place in Melbourne but wished they did a better job curating the beers. Some good ones, but intermixed with a lot of noise.

We were there relatively early on a tuesday for lunch. Food was good - middling. Tap selection was great, but was informed by staff that a number of them hadn’t been kegged yet, which was disappointing. Staff seemed knowledgeable but were a tad uninterested at times.
We came here first time on 19.2.2015. It’s a really good beer bar. They have two bars - on the ground and on the first floor and a small place outside. Very nicely decorated, wooden interior
with posters and beer bottles. Tap selection is quite awesome: 20 beers mainly from Australia’s best craft breweries, only two international ones: Budvar, De Proefbrouweri. That’s what you are looking for when you are on beer journey in Australia. Also good bottle assortment, around 20: Mikkeller, Gueuzerie Tilquin, just to mention the highlights. Could only have 2 beers this day, but we will come back for sure!
We came back some days later after watching a World Cup 2015 cricket game at the Melbourne cricket stadium and spent several hours here. The food was very delicious (pie, sandwich, fries) and the beers great as expected - highlights were the Chocolate Stout from Holgate brewhouse on hand pump! and the FigJam IPA from Burleigh Brewing Co (the most intense beer I had during this trip). Can just confirm again this is the best beer place we visited during our 2015 Australia trip.
