Not far from the station, just inside the norther edge of the ring road. Also close to my hotel! Semicircular bar in a semicircular room with two smaller side rooms. Many Anarchy beers on tap when I visited (Northumberland) suggesting a recent tap takeover. No overlap of beers with the Grove, which was a very pleasant surprise. Worth a look.
Visited on a Sunday afternoon in June. Landed during the bizarre beer festival. Good range of cask and a few keg beers on the bar. Well kept. Service good and friendly.
Found space in one of the two side rooms. Popped out in garden and sampled thirds of a few bizarre (and pretty filthy) beer for a Sunday lunchtime.
Great pub. Added bonus of beer festival was vanilla frosting on my cupcake
Half-moon bar displaying 12 keg beers and eight hand-pulled cask ales, mostly from regional breweries like Summer Wine, Magic Rock, Outstanding, First Chop Brewing and so on, supported by a well-selected bottled beers menu. Medium sized, cozy art retro décor and situated close to the magnificent railway building. For us, coming from Norway, it was a thrill to discover the great rock music of Ida Maria in the background. Decent service and food (visited 09.07.2014).

In the shadow of Huddersfield railway platforms, but on the opposite side of the station entrance so you’ll have to walk around the historic George Hotel and under the tracks to find this pub. It’s well worth it given the large cask and keg selection that regularly rotates here and the service is good too. The pub itself is a little spartan but what fixtures and fittings exist are well kept and it has a nice enough atmosphere to it. CAMRA members get a discount here on cask ales only.
An exceptional pub. Good friendly atmosphere, nice staff, good selection of ales, good bottled beer selection and some nice keg beers as well.
It’s obviously quite a CAMRA friendly pub as the first thing I was asked is if I’m a CAMRA member, and when I produced my CAMRA card I got a discount. Normally it’s the customer who has to ask if a CAMRA discount is available.
The rundown exterior doesn’t promise much, but this place offers a pretty good selection of beer at reasonable prices. There’s 8 casks plus another 12 beers on keg. No crap. The cask stuff was almost entirely local to Huddersfield and the surrounding area. The bottle selection was a bit disappointing. The barman explained that they’re looking to relaunch their bottle menu soon, and are running down their current stock. Unfortunately, there was absolutely no food available on my visit. The prices were solid, the service cheery. Overall, a really nice place.
