Truth be told the service is only an 8 but everything else is so perfect the Toronado gets it’s own set of rules.
The grandaddy of California beer bars still leads the pack in it’s uncomplicated and unpretentious glory.
Like a lot of you, this is where it started for me.
Best beer selection 20 years running.
I’d give it more than 100 if I could.
Possibly the only place in America where you can walk in on any day of the week and have a top 10 IPA, Pilsener, Black Lager, Sour, Porter, DIPA, Hefeweizen, and Belgian Ale on draft, guaranteed. Also a nice bottle list with some very well-priced bargains, but hard to get them to sell you those bottles (Beatification, Cable Car, etc.). This is one of the best places in the world to have a beer, hipsters and jerk bartenders be damned.
This is my favorite bar anywhere! This is valhalla. Every time I have the opportunity to be in SF it is a must stop. Walking through waist height door you are greeted with the smells and spirit of one of craft beers most important establishments with the tap list front and center focus. I love all of this place from the astounding patina of paraphernalia to the room ring of Duvel magnums to the metal often on the sound system, to the punk rock club-esque bathrooms. It can be crazy crowded on many nights but it is still pretty easy to get a beer. The bar tenders are fast and if you are a good patron treat you very well, even with the occasional buyback. I love the ritual with them. The beer list has some old classics that this bar clearly has a relationship with. I find it very respectable they haven’t eschewed these for other trends. The draught list is better curated and more personal than anywhere I’ve been. I’ve only looked at the bottle list once and while extensive I just can’t bring myself not to order from the taps for what by most standards are such good deals. Thanks Toronado for so many worthwhile hangovers.

I’m convinced there is not a better bar in the U.S.A.
Well, this is a pretty long ride from NJ, but it’s so freakin worth the trip that I’ve made it twice now. I’m not claiming to have visited every beer bar in the US, but I’ll go out on a limb and say Toronado is the best not only for selection (which is constantly rotating and beautiful) but also for just the incredible sense of satisfaction of being there. I’ve experienced a great crowd of locals in daytime on a thursday and the mayhem of the Barleywine Festival. And for god’s sake walk 20 feet next door to get some sausages. They have had Westy 12 both times I’ve been there. The BWF is amazing. They put almost every Belgian you ask for in not just the appropriate glassware, but the actual logo glassware. Bartenders have been great at telling me about the beers, sharing anecdotes, and putting up with my drunk ass.
I’m telling you, if you don’t like Toronado, you’re on the wrong website and in the wrong hobby and if this doesn’t score perfect what the hell do you want? Free AdR Brune and blowjobs? Well, you’ll never get that, so RUN to Toronado and experience the best you’ll ever get.
Who am I kidding, this is the best beer bar in the nation. I usually go for events, but on a random night you can find amazing beers that only 10 other people have rated. Just an amazing place.
You know it, you love it, I’m not even sure why the hell I’m rating it. Lost Abbey night was one of the highlights of my beer consumption. The bartenders range the FULL spectrum...Some are complete A-holes, others are extremely nice (last time the bartender just plopped a off-menu super rare Lost Abbey in front of me with a big smile). If you are rating beer and live in the bay area, you have already gotten drunk here...if not, I just planned next Saturday night for you.
IL POSTO per eccellenza, varietà straordinaria di birre e competenza e passione come non se ne trovano da altre parti. Ci ho lasciato il cuore

This place is the best place in SF hands down, almost certainly the best place in the Bay Area, and (according to some who have more experience at other famed bars) arguably the best place on the West Coast. Go. I love it. Downsides? not a ton of chicks, but the one who are their are beer fans! What more can you ask for? Didn’t try the food (didn’t even know they had food, I was mesmerized by the beer!). A must if you are anywhere near it.
