Good for your basic beer shopping. Better selection and slightly better pricing than other grocery-type stores. Generally larger selection and better pricing than the smaller wine stores. Can find stuff for both me and the husband here. Staff not super-knowlegeable.
Total Wine and More is great location to find new beers to taste. Their focus is more on wine than beer. I have an old co-worker that is on staff. He is very knowlegable of wines and will try assist with beer selection. The staff have always been courteous and helpful. I prefer draught beer and this location is all bottles.
This is my go-to store when even I go down to Richmond, a nice selection of singles, prices are unpredictable, but they have some really good prices every now and again. Selection is pretty solid, I’ve had really helpful beer guys and completely worthless ones here, just depends who is working, as the staff is mostly wine people. Also, I think the singles selection is down a bit from where it was about 5 years ago, but it is still pretty good.

I’ve been here a few times now. Located a few miles West of Richmond, right on 250. Large strip mall parking lot. Typical Total Wine setup, though the location is older which makes the place seem a bit tired. They won’t let you break sixers and they’re not particularly helpful, though some of them are friendly. I’ve run into a couple of price discrepancies that take forever to clear up. They do have lots of singles and lots of variety, but nothing particularly rare. I wouldn’t stop here if you had limited time in Richmond, but it may be worth a stop if you have more time to spare.... Update.. stopped by on 8/7/10 and the cashier was a total dick. He didn’t mean to be a dick, he was just so inept it came across that way. Service score downgraded, if that’s even possible.
This was the first Total Wine i’ve been too, and I LOVED it. It’s great to go into those specialty shops and find that truly ’rare’ beer, but i get equal excitement from finding beers i haven’t yet tried from some of my favorite ’macro’ microbreweries like Troegs, Tommyknocker, Victory, etc. I left with over a dozen beers that I have been trying to track down over the past year. They also seem to get seasonal releases earlier than other stores in richmond. Service seemed to be a little lacking, but after a few requests, they did break down several six-packs for me.
I’ve been there twice over the last year when I’ve been in town visiting friends. Average selection, and just about the same amount as most of the rest of the Total Wine’s I’ve been to (except the Springfield, Va location - which is still quite large even after the move). A few more "rare"-widely distributed brews (as in less common big micro brewery beers that are harder to find) there, and a few that I haven’t been able to find for a few months in the rest of the state were hidden there.
Huge selection of craft beer here. Very reasonable prices, but you’ll only find the occasional rare beer here. Staff hare somewhat knowledgable but this is primarily a wine store. Kegs are available here for several craft beers too.
