Visited in February 2009 while in Athens on business. This is by far one of the best beer bars that I have ever visited. Quaint, european interior with seating all over the place. Amazing tap list, even better food, and prices that are reasonable. This is a definite must stop when anywhere within like 100 miles -- well worth the trip.
This is my favorite beer bar in Athens. Great space and a good crowd of appreciative beer lovers. Last time I was there they had a bunch of Avery beers and you have to try the beer cheese soup and make sure you get some spent grain bread with it.
Visited while I visited Five Points Bottle Shop. Nice place. It had just opened for the day, and was very quiet. I believe my brother and I, and maybe one or two other people were in this place at the time. Service was awesome. They had an awesome selection, and were willing to give samples of anything on tap. I am sure this place gets extremely busy during the weekend, but on Thursday (during lunch time) it was virtually empty. I was able to try Brooklyn Blast (a new beer I hadn’t tried before) and Terrapin All-American Imperial Pilsner one last time before it bites the dust i.e. becomes retired. Food was pretty good. This was just a pleasurable experience. Prices weren’t ridiculous.
Wow. This place was a great time, when I was in Athens with some friends. The draft beer is amazing, and they have all of the latest Terrapin stuff, and if it is available in GA, then Trappeze has it. Typical European/ Irish pub setup with limited seating. Service left a bit to be desired. The poor bartender had to do our food order because even he could not find a server to wait on us. The food and beer MORE than made up for it though. Vegetarian rueben with beer mustard, Mushroom and Chimay soup. They have one page of food items, but each one seems more decadent than the other. Everything is very well done and I thoroughly enjoyed this bar. I will return when I am passing through Athens, but I will know to go early this time.
Where to start with this place.
Amazing food, beers, staff.
I loved the place so much that I ate there every day.
Freshly made, portebella Chimay soup with Chimay Carbonade, sourdough with St Bernardus dipping sauce. Beer cheese soup. Terrapin bread.
Excellent cheese platters.
Nice atmosphere, knowledgeable staff and some awesome beers on draft and bottles. Prices for food and beers are more than reasonable for the quality of what you are getting. Domestic pints for around 4.50 to 5 dollars, imports go for a little more with specials going for 7-8dollars.
They had Leffe for 4 dollars.
This is no wonder that so many breweries decide to do hold their diners at Trappeze.
Thye even sell pint glasses for a very decent price.
Okay, I drove all the way down to Athens for a concert which I discovered was canceled only when I arrived at the club at 10:45 pm. My visit at Trappeze Pub made the drive worth my while. This is beer heaven on earth. This is arguably the single best bar for beer in the south and one of the best anywhere I’ve ever been. The taps are obnoxious in their quality. Six Stone taps, a BFM tap, Allagash Curieux on tap, Storm King on cask, the list just goes on and on. The bottle selection is staggering. Menus are available with very extensive descriptions and categorizing of the beer. An excellent Scotch selection is also available. I like the idea of Scotch flights. More than 75% of the food on the menu is made with beer. I had the beer cheddar soup with sourdough and it was absolutely mouthwatering. I haven’t seen a pub with this kind of emphasis on craft beer in a long, long while. This is an absolutely mandatory stop in Athens.
Was in town for the Terrapin & Duck Rabbit beer dinner at Trappeze. Eric the owner was a super cool dude, and I’ll be damned if he hasn’t assembled on hell of a beer bar! Seriously, there was some outstanding selection, both bottle and draft some super rare and VERY reasonably priced goodies. Really is a Marvelous place… MUST Visit if in GA!
Stopped here because of the good ratebeer reviews and glad I did. Was there on a holiday weekend in the summer - so it was probably the least crowded it gets. Thirty beers on draft and an extensive bottle list. Reasonable prices and a classy ambiance. Fantastic place.
This bar has the best selection of any bar I have I have ever been too. They have more unheard of, micro brews, and Belgian beers than I have ever seen. The female bartenders are hot and give great recommendations with great service. The male bartenders are fast and efficient, and the door guys actually remember you. Best bar in Athens hands down!!
Easily one of the best pubs in the country hands down. The selection here is quite amazing...(don’t come here wanting macro domestic swill!) The food is pretty damn good as well! As others have said it does get quite busy in the evenings but the service still is very good.
This is a must stop if in the southeast US.
