Easily one of the best pubs in the country hands down. The selection here is quite amazing...(don’t come here wanting macro domestic swill!) The food is pretty damn good as well! As others have said it does get quite busy in the evenings but the service still is very good.
This is a must stop if in the southeast US.
This place is my favorite spot in Athens. As good or better than the Brick Store even, in many ways. Unfortunately it is not as big as the Brick Store though, but it could always move in the future. A ton of beer, and the best thing is that the taps are constantly changing.
Killer new spot in Athens. I stumbled upon Trappeze on my way to the Farm last time I was in Athens, and never made it to my original destination. On the night I was in town, it was packed out from when I originally walked by at 5 to late in the evening. Classy and vibey - obviously filling a void in the Athens bar scene. Reasonable prices. Well decorated with tap handles and wood. On tap selection of Belgians and microbrews blew me away. Reminiscent of the Brick Store Pub in Atlanta, and has the close-quarters camaraderie of the MapRoom in Chicago. Only complaint is that it’s so popular it’s tough to get a seat - or even standing room!
I’m not sure if the rater below (cecil24) actually went to the right place, but the food at Trappeze is limited right now, but includes some really tasty, imaginative dishes all made with beer - very nice. And you would have to know nothing about beer to say that Trappeze has mostly domestic beer. The beer selection is one of the best of any pub in the country. There is heavy emphasis on the best handcrafted beers from the US and Europe. No standard American lagers are offered at all - just excellent quality IPAs, Belgian-style ales, Imperial Stouts, wheat beers, oak-aged ales, German bocks and doppelbocks, and the list goes on and on. Trappeze is all about excellent beer - defintely worthy of a visit for any true beer lover.
You can feel the love for great beer as soon as you step in the door. The beer menu is like an epic poem to craft brewing with 29 beautiful selections on tap. In a city that has the highest per capita number of bars, Trappeze is like an oasis in a desert of crap beer.
This joint is truly awesome. Its amazing selection with knowledgeable and friendly service makes me certain that the owners view Trappeze foremost as a labor of love. I also liked the absence of obnoxious TVs and the focus on interaction and beer appreciation. I would like to see a little more diversity in tap selection as belgians tend to predominate. a few more american craft brews and hard to find european classics would be nice, though there are admittedly plenty of those offerings in reasonably priced bottles. The crowd seems to run younger and louder later and on the weekends and older and calmer early and during the week. it often is at capacity on friday and saturday nights so keep this in mind when deciding when exactly to go. Thankyou trappeze for coming to our modest but (selectively)thirsty town.
Great Place. Has a 15 page beer menu with descriptions for each beer which is great for the beer novice or the beer snob. No food menu currently but they do serve complimentary bread. Nice laid back atmosphere. Hope I can find a place like this in Jax, FL.
What a wonderful bar. Wish I lived near Athens, so I it could be my local. Great atmosphere, great beers on tap and in the bottle. Complimentary bread that is very tasty. Great service. Not a single thing not to like about Trappeze.
This place is new and happening. I don’t know how it compares to Aromas except that it is much more about beer. They have jerked my palate out of wine for now and renewed my interest in beer. The ambiance is appropriate without being steeped in antiquity. The service is quick and friendly. They offer shot tastings of any tap. They supposedly handle ~200 beers with about 25+ taps. They slant towards the Belgian style so maybe when they offer food they will do long thin fries, mustards, and maybe steamed mussels.
They take care of their beer lines, using chilled lines and Italian flow rate control on select taps soon. They’ll do special requests if they can get it. Lets keep this place and give beer its due.
