I have been to Tylers a few times - always great beer selection and the beers I have had there never disappoint. The food is typical tavern food and some choices are better than others (Fish Tacos and Fried pickles get a big thumbs up) but everything has been pretty good food-wise. Service is hit or miss - a couple of times we have sat outside before a Durham Bulls game and the service was decent but a few weekend nights we went by there and ate inside the service was as slow as can be - I had to ask about our order several times and that is not something I will typically do - I am usually a VERY patient person. Ambiance is pretty cool since this is located in the American Tobacco Historic District.
Great selection of beer; food not as good as Village Draft House, but solid Taproom overall.

This is one of the best places in Durham to come with friends and enjoy great, hard to find beer. Service has always been friendly and efficient, and their seasonal rotating taps make each trip there interesting. The restaurant and bar sides each have slightly different draft lists so be sure to stop by both.
I cannot vouch for the food, but the beer selection is really good for the Durham area. This Taproom is in the recently renovated Durham Tobacco District, which is right beside the home of the Durham Bulls baseball team (of Bull Durham fame). Cool location, helpful service, solid draught selection, can be a little bit noisy, good selection of Carolina sourced beer.
I love hate this place. Good for a beer before or after a Durham Bulls game, but the food mostly stinks and they NEVER update their tap list. Last night they had "rotational Sierra Nevada" and claimed they had monthly rotations of small-batch exclusive beers from SN... I asked and was told "pale ale" or "summer." Similar for their claims about other breweries. Really annoying. Wish Durham had a good beer bar. This isn’t it.
I’ve been to the Speakeasy a few times -- great selection of beer on tap. Location can’t be beat - very cool location in the American Tobacco District.

This place is great. Much more open than the Carrboro Tyler’s. There are many things that I prefer here over the Flying Saucer. For instance, all of the beers have their own serving glass, the food here is much better, and they focus on the quality of their selection rather than the quantity. I mean if you go to a bar that specializes in beer you shouldn’t expect fucking Bud Light to be on draft. My only hang up is the price, but if you aren’t hurting for cash, I’d say this is the place to go for beer.
