Place kind of in the center. No proper beer selection. The bar was really busy, so really hard to get a beer. Selection was really limited. Didn't try food. Overall: not worth your time. There are so many better places in prague.
Nice place, it has the looks, certainly. Alas, it’s full of people who don’t give a fuck what they’re drinking, served by people who don’t give a fuck what they’re serving, or whom they’re serving. Rude, pretty much the only Czech place which actually supports the stereotype I’ve heard others mention. How anyone can give this more than "1" for selection I don’t know - it’s got the single most common beer in the country and *nothing* else. That’s not even a selection, that’s a singularity. Watching the guy washing the glasses splashing the glasses that beer was being served into was quite stomach-churning. The only 2 good things I have to say about this are that (a) I got a place tick; and (b) therefore I never have to come here again.
Famous place serving only 1 type of beer - Pilsner Urquell. Despite the tourists U Zlatého Tygra preserved much of its character. Prices are very reasonable for Old Town. Living piece of history - definitely worth to visit.
The famous U Zlateho Tygra is a bit special. Immediately after entering the waiter seated me at one of the few free seats in the bar. Without even asking he brought me a stein of Pilsner Urquell. Just then I’ve realized it’s the only beer served there. I was seated between two Czech families and the whole place had very local feeling to it (despite being at the "elephant route"). Worth visiting for its ambiance.
You could call it a timeless classic. To take a seat against the wall is to understand the meaning of drinking pivo in the Czech Republic. I was blessed by the experience of being an old pot-bellied Czech man for a couple of hours.
This is not a chain bar or a concept pub or a tickers’ den it is a piece of living history. Full from the time it opens at 15.00, mainly with old Czech guys and young guys in active training to become old Czech guys. Unpolluted by music or silence, surfing a continuous wave of conversation but no longer smoke-infested. No beers except the most tolerable widely available incarnation of Pilsner Urquell. You are not allowed to stand at the bar, so if you get a seat, watch, keep up with the intake and absorb.
