Nice surprise. A solid taplist with at least a dozen taps of Aussie micros. The beers are not all overly exciting but there were a few tasty session beers which was nice. The decor is far from cozy, but I did overhear staff mentioning that the pub will start being refurbished soon. Hopefully it’ll be done well and add character to the place. A good mix of people drinking here. Reasonable pricing. Update June ’15:- The Union has since been refurbished but ambiance is still the same. The beer selection has interesting beers from local and interstate breweries. There’s a kitchen at the back and food needs to ordered from here as you can’t order from the main bar. Okay pub grub.

Great place in the of heart of the fun neighbourhood of Newtown. Over 15 beers on tap when I visited, with over half from 4 Pines. You can order paddles of 5 x 200ml of $18. Service is good. The interior is fairly dark and was very busy (though not overwhelmingly packed) on the Saturday night we visited. Definitely worth a stop, especially if staying in Newtown.

Visited on 3rd April 2016. Large pub in Newtown, there’s a bistro area to the rear and a small patio. Great range of Australian craft beer which I hadn’t seen anywhere else in town. Sampler paddles available too. Prices are a little steep but it is one of the best beer ranges in town. If you head to Newtown for Young Henry’s then don’t miss this place

Visited July 11, 2013.
Walked down from Young Henry’s, also walking distance from the Newtown train station.
On your left side if coming from Y.H./station.
Offered 5 beer tasting paddle, about 1 liter beer, for $18.
Big indoors seating. Some live music playing at nights, though not during the day when I visited. I was there for lunch pretty much, a few locals drinking.
Had a very nice rump steak with chips and pepper sauce, well made. Order and pay by the counter to the kitchen, then it is brought out to you.
Counted 20 taps, mainly Oz craft beers. Had one paddle with the 5 samples, my meal, then walked back to the station.
Service was nice and friendly.
If you’re going to Young Henry’s to try their beers, I’d say it is well worth it to take the short walk down to Union Hotel as well.

Typical boozer atmosphere with a better-than-average selection including two hand pumps. In one of Sydney's most characterful, lively 'hoods. We walked a while in the cold heavy rain and it was nice to have a good pour at the end of it.
