We arrived at 11.30am and got a drink straight away. It soon filled up with tourists. Loud mouthed lager swilling tourists, not proper beer tourists. Yes, they have a large beer list, but nothing new, just the same old stuff you can get anywhere else. Then came the problem of trying to pay. We ended up just leaving the money on the bar. Won’t be going back again. There are plenty better bars in Ghent.
Traditional bar just next to river. Seemed like a quite touristic place. Bit boring music didn’t help. Selection is mostly Belgian classics, but I’ve managed to find something interesting. We didn’t have much time so we stayed only for one beer, but I don’t think I’d stay for more than couple of beers anyway. When it comes to bars Gent isn’t really a beer mecca so I guess this one is worth checking out, but don’t expect too much.
Great place with a patio right next to the river. The service was not particularly welcoming or smiling for that matter. He seemed like he was tired of tourists, which isn’t good when more than half your customer base are tourists. He seemed friendly enough to the locals. I only had their three house beers as there wasn’t anything on their beer menu I hadn’t had which looked particularly interesting. The Mammelokker was weird, and the Klokke Roeland was a bit boozy, but the Gandavum was really nice. The music was 1980’s which is always a plus with me.
Small cosy bar next to the canal. Large bottle list and fair prices both for bottles and taps. Service was ok. Not the fastest/not very attentive. But friendly indeed. We had a few snacks there as well, cheese and ham with mustard - delicious mustard.
Small, typically Belgian beer pub with lots of dark wood and beer enamels on the wall. Solid tap list, mostly Belgian, nothing exciting or rare though, apart from their house beers. The bottle list is also heavily on Belgian classics, and everything for reasonable, not too expensive prices. Rather cozy atmosphere here, some locals watching football and tennis on a small screen, others just sitting at the tables and talking. The staff was friendly and quick, although maybe not that attentive. Good bar, although I must admit that I expected a bit more with regards to the selection.
