This is the most amazing Whole Foods I’ve been to in my life. However, we learned not to get there at 8 PM, when all the food bits close (was looking forward to the smokehouse), and when they’ve run out of most beers. And they do have an odd and complex system of ordering, but they did skirt it for us, since the crowd was thin. Even so, 29 taps at a grocery store?? Holy cow. A must-visit kind of place.
If you lived in the area this would be great. Drinking and shopping while sampling is awesome. As a destination it is interesting but you are drinking in a grocery store. Selection is great, prices are decent but service was poor. It was cool, because I have never seen anything like this, but that is where my curiosity ends.
Ok, when the highest rated bottle shop in an area is a Whole Foods, it is worth checking out. I will say that this is a super nice Whole Foods. Clean, well layed out, lots and lots of cool shit inside. They had about 4 Superstition meads in the wine section, which is nice. Beer selection was about standard for a whole foods in my experience. Nothing Earth shattering, but a good selection of bombers, mostly refrigerated. It did not appear that multi-packs were breakable. So far, about par for the course for a WF. Now the bar. That is a nice touch. We just got our first in Silicon Valley, and it is a much toned down affair to the 32 tap behemoth that presented itself. Nothing outlandish on tap, but a solid list. I can’t see myself coming to whole foods to drink, but a beer while shopping seems like a perfectly fine idea. Is this place a 95? No. Is it solid? Yes.
Good selection for the Greater Phoenix area. Reasonable selection of bottles, though almost nothing from AZ, so don’t expect that. I don’t get how this is the top rated place in the area; Sun Devil is superior - go there instead.
Once you get past the idea that there’s a bar in a grocery store which I think is pretty cool you realize what an awesome place this is. They have over 30 drafts of local and regional crafts with lots of unusual offerings. The bartender is a real beer geek and his enthusiasm is infectious. The store itself has the longest cooler I’ve ever seen full of craft beer including a nice section of bombers. These are the kinds of experiences which make craft beer fun.
Chandler is about 30 minutes from downtown PHX, so seeing the ratings, I figured I had to come, but did not leave particularly impressed. Good Whole Foods selection, not sure it’s better than other Whole Foods I’ve been in and definitely not sure I’d make a big detour to visit that one versus other stores in the PHX area to seek bottles.
Wow this place is insane!!!!! I have never been to a whole foods that has a bar along the side of the place with 32 taps! this is killer! great selection and the beer manager there is really friendly. This could be the best place in Phoenix for beer. The bottle selection is solid and always rotating stock so you get fresh stuff. I have to go back to this place!
