If you go to Whole Foods Roosevelt, ask for Joel, the beer dept manager. His knowledge and passion puts him at the top of the Seattle beer scene.
Great selection given the small cooler and shelf space.
Super high prices, but on a borderline-enormous selection. Parking’s a hassle almost all the time. Awesome selection of high-end groceries to go with the fairly inspired wall of beer.

If we didn’t have places like Bottleworks and Uber in town, this would be huge boon. Even with them in town, it still rocks having a local grocery store with a beer selection that would make most states cry with envy. The beer buyer, Joel, is a great guy, and really knows his stuff. I’ve received differing reports on which it is or is not policy to break up sixpacks, but I’m usually allowed to do so.
Hard working folks, sometimes you have to hunt for them (they might be working in the wine department), but where else can you get rare beers and a dry-aged steak to go with?

This Whole Foods in Seattle has a great selection of beer due to the hardworking efforts of Stauss and Matt, the beer department managers. Due to their limited shelf space, they don’t carry as much as they’d like. Still, they have a large selection of well-chosen local and national micros, and many imports including a good selection of Belgians. Import beer prices are competitive for the area, with some deals to be found (ask!). Additionally, they have their own line of organic beers made for them by the likes of North Coast Brewing. Check them out, especially if Bottleworks is already out of the hot new beer you’re looking for!
Prices are a bit higher than some of the other places around town. Selection is nothing special. I guess I just really enjoy Joel, pointing me to what they got in this week. First place I was able to get Pliny the Elder and The Abyss. Little bit jacked up prices but usually a helpful staff, if you know what you’re looking for.
I forgot how much freaking beer whole foods has. They had 12oz Batch 1 Tilquin gueuze on the shelf which was very tempting at $12 a bottle. I bought some PNC and Velvet Merkin from FW and grabbed a burrito. Nice selection, great staff and hard to not fill up a cart with beer.
One of the best grocery store beer selections in the city that I’ve found. Beer buyer Joel really does an outstanding job curating this section, and it’s one of my regular stops. Bonus, it’s now right around the corner from Toronado.
