Plenty of parking right in front. This place does mostly wine, however they still have a good selection of beer. They keep the place pretty cool. The prices are about average. This place has a good selection of singles. If you are in the area I would go check it out.

Updating my old rating from 2005. I stop in weekly as it's on my way home. The beer selection is quite large - if you join their mailing list you can reserve or be thrown into a lottery for some of the rare stuff that comes through town (if you have the time/patience for that). 99% of what's on the shelf can be singled out - if it can't, there's a sign. Matt is the beer guy and he's been there forever - he's very knowledgeable and helpful (if you have questions) - he pretty much leaves me alone other than a hello and quick check-up (he knows I rarely need help), but he is always more than willing to answer questions. Geoff can be a dick (won't say hello, knows nothing about beer, and for as long as he's been there, he obviously doesn't care to learn) but whatever. ("Some guy must have cleaned out his garage and brought in all the empty sixers last week." Yea, that was me, I save them and bring them back so people can use them; you even helped me unload the boxes last week). The other folks are all nice and can help out with any questions you may have, and many know me by name even when I don't know theirs. My biggest issue with the store is that there's not enough change - which, if you're not from there area would never be a problem. Since I stop in weekly, it seems that I'm bring less and less home every trip. I left this time with 5 beers. Sure, I could have bought some pricier bombers I haven't tried, but I'm not always into dropping $10+ on a single tick. Must say their prices are a little better than Beer Run, and if you're into a full case of something I think there's a discount on that (and occasionally a discount on some specials/"flights" or groups of beer). No issues with an itemized receipt - just ask (which is a problem at Beer Run), so you know you're not getting screwed. Overall - I do like this place, it is my beer store and is worth a stop. I'm not afraid to point out the issues - I doubt anything will change - just know what to expect. Oh yea, make sure you check out the single cooler at the other side of the store too.. A handful of stuff in there that is NOT on the shelves. Old review follows *********************** A nice wine shop that carries a decent amount of beer- all available in singles (even if it’s not in the "singles" section, you can pull one from a pack). Very reasonably priced, you’ll find a bunch from common micros to rare beers. Definitely a place to check out- and the staff is helpful and friendly. Some of the beer selection changes weekly, so making weekly trips will always get you something new.

Decent prices, and the beer and wine selections are both top-notch. Ambience and staff are unpretentious and the staff is very knowledgable. Temperature is kept low to benefit the goods, so if you chill easily, bring a sweater. Good Belgian selection. They allow you to pull singles from any six pack. Prices are competitive and among the lowest in town. Matt the beer guy knows his stuff. Top notch place.

Gotta downgrade this, sadly. :( Just stocked up on new ticks and got several that were WAY out of date. Old score was 90.

Quite a bit of offerings, and they’ve got many packages broken up into singles. Prices are pretty good. The service is kind of lacking, but questions always seem welcomed. A nice selection of large format bottles too.

Convenient location across from Trader Joes, adjacent to Kroger’s and near Kmart and Whole Food. Plenty of parking. All the wine is in cardboard boxes, while the beers is against the back and side walls. This means that space is pretty tight. Selection is small to medium, and I didn’t see anything that stood out, other than a handful of interesting ciders and meads. Staff was friendly and helpful.

02/24/14 UPDATE: Unfortunately the service here has become extremely uneven. Sometimes it feels like you’re pulling teeth if you ask a question that requires any staff to move from behind the counter. They’ve also messed up email orders I’ve made and offered no apology. As a store that offers a markedly inferior selection to Beer Run, they should be doing everything they can to hold onto customers. They’re not.

09/13/13: Surprisingly good spot. No frills ambiance, convenient location. While the shop obviously specializes in wine, they have a fairly strong beer selection. There’s probably 350-400 beers on offer. The international stuff might actually be more interesting than what Beer Run usually has in stock. Domestic offerings are a little less exotic. One thing I like about this place is that they send out emails whenever they get something limited in. The value’s solid. Overall, I’m more than happy to have this place around. Recommended.

This is a very good bottle shop but a word of warning. If you’re a big guy like me, it’s a bit cramped so watch your step. The wine is stacked in boxes on the floor with the beer lining the shelves so it’s never going to get any points for ambiance. They have a very generous pick-six policy and they didn’t hesitate to break up a six to sell a single. They also have a fantastic selection of local, regional, and world craft brands. It’s definitely up there with beer run for the best bottle shop in town.

While camping in Shenandoah, my wife and I took a day trip out to visit where she lived growing up in Charlottesville, so we took a little detour and stopped here as well. Worth the stop. Nice selection of local things, as well as a good amount of imports and other domestic micro. Managed to pick up a couple of things that don’t make it up to NY. Would certainly stop in again if I were passing through the area.

Visited this place while passing through Charlottesville on our way to Winston-Salem, North Carolina. We were unfortunate to get there a few minutes after they closed, which was a surprise since it was 7:30 on a Friday. Luckily, a kind employee saw us and allowed us a quick through the store. The craft selection is off to the right with a nice selection of U.S. stuff as well as plenty of imports, especially Belgian beer. Nice showing of Drie Fonteinen Oude Gueuze, and at really nice pricing. The U.S. selection was quite impressive, as they still had Firestone Abacus and Parabola, the former of which went in a day or so in Northern Virginia. Other than that, lots of standard distribution stuff, but they had it all, so no complaints there. All in all, I’d certainly head back to this place to pick up some Belgians as well as to see what limited-release stuff they might still have.

Possibly the best bottle shop in Charlottesville. Excellent range from around the world and always willing to try and get new stuff in.
