A brewery not far from the ball park so would be a nice place to stop at before or after a Rockies game. The brewery has a full menu but we didnít try any of the food during out visit. Looking it over seemed pretty interesting American food. Plenty of seating in the restaurant area. The bar area is a little crowded so while it might be a good place during a game it is probably smashed at the same time. Really strong selection of beer brewed onsite and many guest taps. I would say at least a dozen of their own and another dozen guest taps which was nice. Some interesting flavor combos which keeps things interesting and decent standard fair for other breweries I have visited in Denver. You can see the brewing operations which are on several different levels. It looks like the beer for the taps is brewed directly under the bar with a line going straight up. Canít get more fresh then that. There is also some outdoor seating.
Nice downtown location, across the street from Union Station, where I was staying. Was a rainy day. Went with a lot of non-beer drinkers and they all loved the food - solid bar menu. Great green chili. Sandwiches and appetizers were great. Journey to the bathroom downstairs was cool, walked by fermenters behind glass. Not the best beer in the area, but itís a solid selection and good variety.
Stopped by around lunch last Tuesday before going to the nearby Museum of Contemporary Art. A beautiful old brick building with high ceilings and big windows. I felt the benchs outside with logos of their beers painted on very cool. Most of the brewery is in the basement and can be viewed when you hit the restrooms. The rest is right in front of the doors when you walk in, as is a giant bronze gorilla. That was cool but left me wondering what the story behind it was. Merch is on view in a hallway behind the bar, if you see something you like just ask the staff to get it for you. The staff were friendly, chatty and knew their beers. I sampled a few, hung out and moved on. Very convenient location to Union Station/downtown. A must stop for people looking to see where Coloradoís beer scene got started. Oh if youíre looking to try Rocky Mountain Oysters or their Rocky Mountain Oyster Stout they told me these days itís pretty much a GABF seasonal so donít expect to see it on tap outside of fall unfortunately for me.
Came here with the extended familiy during our Thanksgiving visit, so we were a group of people of whom 75% didnít really care much about beer at all. Plus, they can all be a pain to servers. Great location, right by Union Station, and I thought their house beers were tasty (at least the couple I got to try). We werenít able to stay long, just killed 20 minutes or so until a dinner reservation, but the bartenders were pleasant enough, and patient with those in my group asking to sample 5 different things (and liking none of them). Would like to re-visit when I had some more time and a smaller group, as the house beer list and especially the guest beer list were fairly impressive.
I like the ambiance, nice wood building with a bar upstairs and down: tons of room! The service at the bar upstairs was horrible! The bartender did not know their beer, ignored me for an extended time, was slow at getting around the bar/understaffed, and refused to give more than four tasters at a time despite there being two people at the table. Very off-putting. Selection was decent: about fifteen of their beers, multiple brewery only I imagine. Also, about five non Wynkoop beers. Prices were really good. Overall, for a place that has never impressed me with their beer, I thought that they must have a really nice establishment. The establishment itself is very nice, and the location is amazing, but the service was horrid while I was there. Left me with no will to go back.
