Visited ’between trains’ en route to Leeds. Great to have a place like this so easily accessible at a station. Place is a fair size, busy, noisy, with a very good tap list and slightly ambivalent but ok staff. Very good value beers. Overall it does a very good job.
Interesting design outside and inside as well, part of old Railway station. Big list of local beers on tap, bit busy with rushing travelers having a pint on the go. Gives different atmosphere though, also nice to watch. Would go back, just to try more from list.
Airy circular bar with stain glass windows and roof lights and a marble floor. Half the bar is on the street side and half on the platform side. Staff were alright but typically ’Tapped’ young and with that air of vague disinterest. They also tended to congregate round the platform side chatting to aquiantances, another ’Tapped’ trait, but overall nothing to complain about at all. Good selection of beers, had to add a few. Fairly chilled overall vibe. Yeah - pleasant and I would happily return.
Lots of hustle and bustle here, since it’s located at the station; in fact the patio tables are right on the platform. Inside is a large round central bar and bar tables. Good place to watch the world come and go. Good tap list, on a chalkboard facing the platforms. Efficient staff. A must stop while in York, but be ready for crowds.
Unlike some of the other station platform ’Tap’ pubs in Yorkshire, this one does allow access from both the street and train side as there’s no barriers at York, making it extremely useful for a final drink or two before heading wherever. This pub is much more than that though, and is worthy of some quality time too, having a plethora of rotating cask ales located all over the circular central service area. The traditional well kept pub seating is either side of here, there’s a fair amount of it and dogs are allowed.
Award wining conversion of the old station tea rooms, which spent many years as a model railway exhibition. 18 hand pumps dispense a constantly changing range of beers from all over the country. It’s customers are a strange mix of beer geeks, and people having a drink before their train. The major downside is that there is never enough staff on and you can wait a while at busy times. Prices aren’t cheap either. Food is limited to pork pies and sandwiches. A must visit
Pretty large place just by the railway station. Airy, lots of space. Large, round bar with more than 30 taps. Not many people in during our visit. Besides really good tap selection they have a decent bottle selection. A must visit while in York.
