Overview: Anchorage Cafe is the place in Louisville Metro for a farm to table breakfast and top notch coffee. It is located in Anchorage, KY, which is still considered part of Louisville Metro, and about five minutes from Evergreen Liquors on Shelbyville Rd. The location looks like a repurposed whistle stop station, but it’s my understanding that the building was built for the location. Most of the seating is located downstairs, and consists of tables with a cushioned bench around part of the room. Photos from a local photographer cover the walls, and add to the farm to table vibe of the place. Seating is available outside, most of it upstairs (see place photo). Service is fine, but if you’re here for beer, you’re probably not going to hear anything you don’t already know from them. The selection, unfortunately, is no longer anything worth seeking out. You can get West Sixth IPA/Amber in cans, but otherwise it’s Bud Light, Guinness and singles from a Blue Moon variety pack. Beer wise, the place barely deserves mention on this site (they were cultivating a small, thoughtful menu at one time, but it seems those plans have been abandoned). If anyone has a reason to come here, the food is downright great. As mentioned about three times already- great farm to table breakfast, and plenty of tasty in house bakery treats, such as homemade oreos, goat cheese brownies, sticky buns, etc. As the world’s biggest Hobbit, I’m quite happy here. For the quality, the food is priced very well. PROS: Decadent food choices; good prices on food; nice place to eat and hang out. CONS: Dumbed down beer selection; service not beer-knowledgable. OVERALL: A hard place for me to rate, because I actually love the place. In terms of beer, it’s not worth stopping by. However, if you’re already in the area and want a great meal, this is a must visit. Located right next to The Village Anchor.
(Update 10/15/2015) As of September 30, Anchorage Cafe is closed. Their very tasty breakfast and coffee will be missed by this Hobbit.
