Brauhaus Päffgen

Traditional German brewpub, about 20 minutes walking from the central station. 1 beer, the top-rated German kolsch on RB - it’s fine. 0.2L pours for €2.20. Pleasant service. Cash only. Worth the walk so you can tick the top-rated version of this super boring style.

Retro/old style Kölsch bar. Reasonable prices, but slow service. Only one beer, but kölsch in Köln, so still worth a visit. Ok bar.

It's a nice experience, but defiantly wasn't my thing.

Typical Köln 10/10/5/10 rule here. 10 minutes to put an order, 10 minutes to wait to get the beer, 5 minutes to drink the beer, 10 mintues waiting to pay. Lazy staff. No card only cash. Some English spoken. Ok beer.

Quintessential beer house. Busy, but the service was good. Beers were über fresh, right out of the wooden kegs. Food was more like what I would call “German pub food”. It was no frills but did the job as we were hungry.

Large, typical German style. Only Kölsch. Food is fine. Very good Kölsch.

Visited a couple of times in July 2021. Large place with a covered patio in the back, which is kind of cozy, but is also where the dirty filthy smokers sit. Traditional decor with lots of dark wood and yellow painted walls. The service is amazing. The Kellners make sure your glass is never empty and with a fantastic kölsch like Päffgen what else could you ask for? Food maybe? The food is also traditional German with schnitzel, blood sausage and the like with one or two vegetarian options. Great place where you can easily spend a couple of hours at least.

The place is very cool, lots of old wood and a very old school German vibe. The kolsch here is ok. The service here was the worst that I may have experienced in all of Germany. Maybe he was just having a bad day because another server was hours late, but no excuse to be such a dick.
