Visited DC’s house of beers for the first time on a visit to NYC in early March 11.
Arrived in the bar for a beery Friday lunch with 3 friends just before 12 noon and the place was empty. By 12.45 / 1pm it was crowded and folks were struggling to get a table, largely a local office crowd, 95%+ male!!!
Beer selection was decent, approx 30 on tap and I enjoyed offerings from 21st ammendment, Stones and Flying Dog.
Table service was a little slow as it got busier and we did go thirsty for more than a few minutes between our 2nd and 3rd drink.
Food wise, the burgers looked great (although unfortunately I didn’t have one). I opted for the Nachos and felt short changed. I can only describe the portion size as ’UK’ and it was most definately the smallest/meanest portion I’ve been served on the left hand side of the pond!
In summary, I would come here again, but only if I was close by. I don’t think it was worth the effort to seek this bar out and go out of our way, which we did on this occasion.
Well, if you’re on the UES you’re kind of stuck with this place. It’s ok, the tiles make it very loud when crowded and they’re very douchey about shortpouring/foaming and the staff isn’t that bright. Food is average.
went here late night with the wifey and a few friends after a comedy show a few yrs ago. This place introduced me to delerium tremens, and i thank them for that! amazing selection of beer from all over the world, both in draft and bottle
Decent selection of beer... good specials that change up. Atmosphere was nice, very neighborhoody. Food was good... truffle mac n cheese was insane. Chicken sandwich was decent. Our waitress seemed a bit distracted. Owned by the same people @ Hop Devil Grill... although they have a better selection.
Nice place. Nice atmosphere. Really helpful staff. About 30 Taps. Did not try the food. Good selection of taps and bottles that is rotated frequently. Prices are what youd expect in the area. Staff brought out some nice goodies that werent on the menu. Really enjoyed this place.
Great place -excellent service even if the manager is a bit dull and boring. But the people behind the bar are great. Good information about breweries and beers. Large menu, we could not try more than a handful, but they where all just great.
To be recommended.
Decent bar. Has a good draft line-up that highlights American craft beer. They also do some good brewery events; I visited on Victory night, which featured nine VBC taps. Prices are a bit above NYC standards for some beers, which would be OK since the beers are quite good; however, this bar is WAY off the beaten path and I can’t say the prices are justified. (Caveat: There do seem to be some good happy hour deals.) I didn’t have any food. The bartender was very kind and attentive, and I noticed she really knew how to pour a good pint (or goblet), leaving a perfect-sized head and not wasting any liquid. I would recommed this bar only if you are in the area for some reason. Not really a destination for someone who lives away from the Upper East Side.
