A high end restaurant on eastern LI. My first trip here was for a beer dinner which was a lot of fun. My second trip was for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Although there were few people there, the service was a bit slow. The beer menu is nothing crazy, but pretty solid - I had a Weihenstephaner Kristalweiss and 21st Amendment Back in Black on tap. The food menu changes seasonally, there were some Caribbean style entrees on when I visited. The food is quite good. Overall I had a good time. It is one of the few restaurants to get good beer out on Eastern LI, although it is fairly pricey.

I have been wanting to get over to Deks for a while and finally took advantage of my mother’s birthday to get myself and my family there. The building is the old Hallock house, which was built in 1825. The place definitely has an Early American feel to it and is dark but inviting. I especially liked the brass light fixtures with the small trumpets holding the candle bulbs. The owner was welcoming and came over to the table several times during our meal to talk with us. Our server was new and had a little problem sorting things out and my daughter’s beverage order. The food was excellent and everyone at the table enjoyed their meal. The beer selection was amongst the best that I have seen in any restaurant on Long Island. I had a bottle of Rodenbach with my meal, while my wife had Maudite on tap and my mother had a glass of Paulaner Salvator also on draught. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience and I will definitely be back again.

Was stunned to find a place with such an insane beer list down the road from my mom’s house on Long Island. We went in on a slow night, and got personal attention from the owner, including beer recommendations and great conversation. I was blown away by what they had available, and appreciated that the list included the ABV and country of origin on it as well. Enjoyed some Hoptimus Prime among other things, a great place for a beer geek on a relatively sparse suffolk county beer scene.

I enjoyed going to this place on various Friday and Saturday nights in the past 2 months as I always felt very welcome there. It has a good beer list that has finally knocked off the big name taps in favor of smaller craft names such as Legacy, Southampton, Sixpoint, North Coast, and others. I also have to commend the place for upgrading its bottle list too. I found the food to be very good and close to a gourmet level.

Although DEKS does have a large selection of beer, it need some major improvement in a lot of other areas. They have a very large wine menu but are, embarrassingly, out of stock on at least half of the wines on the menu. The music is either FM commercial radio or a small collection of CD’s most of which skip. The jukebox is not bad but it is only turned on after 10pm. And when it is on there is no house music inbetween songs or if no one puts money in it. They have only 2 small old TV’s with basic cable. The food quality has suffered recently due to both a major roach problem and lack of customers dinning. There are roach traps on the sink under the bar and all over the kitchen. The food, which used to be great, is no longer fresh but mostly frozen due to low diner turnout. And you would be crazy to eat any of their seafood. The establishment has enormous potential but it is suffering greatly due to mismanagement.

Best selection in the area by far. Neat old atmosphere, lots of old wood. DEK’S has great food with a constantly changing menu. Make sure you try the French union soup I recommend a double with it. Some great choices on the beer menu that also constantly rotates including Fullers ESB, Hacker Pschoor Munich Edel Hell, Six Point brownstone, Crop Circle and Maudite to Name some of the 12 tap beers and ales. The bottle selection is great too. Some of my favorites include Westmall Triple. Rochfort #6, Afligin Double. Sam Smiths Imperial, Stout Brooklyn Local 1 and Einbecker Ur-Bock. The Single Malt selection also is not to be missed Great attention is paid to hard to obtain Rarities.

This place is a relative newcomer to the craft beer scene, but the owners are enthusiastic about making this place into one of the North Shore’s best places to find and drink craft beer. In addition to the tap system which features three taps for Long Island and Brooklyn breweries, the bottle selection is constantly expanding. Brooklyn Local 1 was recently added. Rochefort 6 is a staple. Rodenbach, Chimay, Grimbergen are a few of the Belgians available. A new bottle cooler will be installed in the next couple of months, so the bottle selection should double before the end of the year.

Another update: Dek’s American is a historic landmark in Rocky Point, NY that is one of the best gourmet restaurants in its area that infuses different styles by the month whether it be Cajun, Creole, Italian, German, or small-town American. As I have been here many times in the past year for beer events and dinner, I have found it to be fun and inviting. I have also found the management totally willing to work with a new situation, like having cask nights and trying new tap selections made by the customers. The tap system shows the progress this former Bud bar has made with Sixpoint, North Coast, Maudite, Blue Point, Southampton, and others in its line up. To follow its beer selection further into unusual works, one can simply go on line to the web site and look through the updated list. I’m sorry the previous rater appears to be venting as a possible ex-employee or rival bar without any other credits or notes to date (who might entertain a bogus roach story?) but the rant translates into no balls at all.
