hid place has evolved since it changed over from its connection with the Michigan Brewing Co. They haven’t added taps to compete but have really upped their food game. Instead of going there for beer I go for the food.

Only 3 of their brews available, all of which were delicious (Golgoltha Belgian Black [IPA], Descension Dry Hop Amber & At Wit’s End [Belgian Wit]). A selection of other breweries offered, including a fantastic mead (John Lemon). Currently the brewpub in Lansing / East Lansing offering the best locally brewed beer.

IF I COULD GIVE THIS PLACE A 0 I WOULD! THIS IS BY FAR THE WORST EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD AT A RESTAURANT. THE FOOD WAS NOT GREAT AND THEY WERE OUT OF MOST BEERS. I’VE NEVER BEEN HARASSED BY RESTAURANT STAFF BEFORE AND THE GENERAL MANAGER WAS COMPLETELY INAPPROPRIATE I HAVE NEVER BEEN TREATED SO POORLY AS A GUEST. HE SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF HIMSELF.

Others really like this place but I have had three (out of three) bad experiences. Food is ok and beer can be too now that they serve more than just MBC brews. I have always had lousy service though.

midtown Beer company, formally MBC Downtown Lansing has finally got their class C license which means not only do we serve Michigan Craft Beer but also Michigan Wines and Michigan liquors! We know that many of you who were in here before our switch were high disappointed by our very light inventory, which we apologize for as we were not able to buy any more beer without conflict of our brewers license. Now all 14 taps are filled, and the back bar has been taken over by numerous liquors and wines. The brewers license is on its way and our menu will be updated in the near future! We hope that those who come back are as excited as we are for the many great changes that are to come!

I enjoyed my experience at MBC. I loved the burger I had, but the service was average at best. I love MBC and supporting the local brewery, but was expecting much more. The pub seemed an odd combo of modern/western to me, and the Celis beers seemed to be a larger part of their focus than I would have thought. I will be going back, but it could be better.

I hate this place. I have given it two chances. The first time sucked and the second was worse. The first time I was there I just stopped in to have a pint and check the place out. They were out of almost everything that was a little creative on their list. I had to settle for one of their beers I can go get at the grocery store, and I swear the one I got at the grocery store tasted fresher. The second time was worse, cause they were still out of most the beers they claimed were on tap, and they were also out of most of their food we tried to order. Once we found food that they still had, we waited an hour to get it. I talked to the manager and got the same reasoning for both. He said that they only get shipments once a week even though they are a little more than 20 miles away from the actual brewery. Seems like a great business plan.

From the "MBC" logo on the front of the building to the post-modern industrial look of the interior, this establishment is about one thing above all others: branding. The look is a curious hybrid between a traditional, cozy brewpub and a glitzy high-end nightclub. It is obvious MBC is trying to lure law students and image-conscious urbanites to this brewpub, but not so obvious that they are interested in being a serious beer presence in Lansing. The tap list is fairly long, but is focused on light lagers and the mostly mediocre Celis beers MBC has been pushing for a few years now. Perhaps it is a strategic move to focus on beers "craft beer elitists" would never seek out, but it is a disappointment to a serious beer drinker, and I usually order water with my lunch instead of one of the overpriced ($5/pint) mediocre offerings. Food is OK; service is OK; nothing stands out. The free peanuts, though, are a nice touch. Now, we continue to wait in Lansing for a brewer to locate here who is serious about making fantastic craft beer.
