Modern beer bar near-ish to the University. Quite busy on the Wednesday evening when I visited. Service was rather good. Draught selection was good, I counted 21 taps, mostly keg but some cask also. Most beers were from the UK and many were from Scotland. Was able to try some beers before choosing. Flights were available but seemed a little pricey. Prices generally ranged from reasonable to outrageous. Didn't try any food. Definitely worth a look.

Possibly the most well renowned craft beer bar in Edinburgh. Excellent range of both cask & keg with a wide and varied selection. Flights served. Decent ambiance with friendly service, a must visit for sure

Big Bar not too far out of the way the city centre. Lots of Keg and Cask Lines with a very good UK selection. Occasional Tap Takeovers and Meet the Brewer Events. Food is pretty good, prices are a bit higher than some other places, but ok. Very full on the weekend and for good reason. They do flights of 5 for ~12£ and you get to keep a glass. Haven't been to all places here, but it is a contender for best bar in Edinburgh.

The best bar in Edinburgh for quality beer on cask and draught. Very friendly service. Food is on the pricey side and portions are kind of small but it is ok if you´re hungry. Will visit again but skip the food.

Great beer bar with lots of taps given to both cask & keg beers as well as beers, mainly from top breweries (I sampled beers from Thornbridge, Crossborders and Wild Beer Co). Nice ambiance and friendly service and the beers reasonably priced compared to some places. Beer flights available. Food was nice too. Could spend a lot of time here.

Well ive given this place time to settle to get a better feel for it. So here goes. The hanging bat has a lot to recomend it, 14 Keg lines and 6 Cask lines as well as a considerable bottle selection. But its not not all about the numbers its the care taken in the selection. With the likes of Kernel, magic Rock and Harbour, on regularly as part of the rotating guest list, and the likes of Hawkshead , Moor and Luckie forming part of there Permanent theres a Garentee of Interesting beers and Its not uncommon to find 4-5 beers above 6% on at any one time. But this place has more to offer than just beer. The layout and Decor make this a very comfortable bar, some where you can easily pop into for a 10 minute quicky or spend several hour being slowly seduced by its delights. Food is well done and well priced, offering filling and snacky alternatives. With Regular meet the brewer events its possible to see 10-20 brews from one of the more intersting UK breweries on at the same time. But for me the one thing that puts the Icing on the Cake is that it Allows Children. While Edinburgh has many great pubs sadly too many of them are not child friendly, so to find a Bar this good that we can go out as a family to is a delight.

SO were into a new Year and this place is going strong, its amazing the beer you can find in here on a Random monday night like last night. Which Just makes it such a great place to have a drink on the way home, but its also nice to sit on a quietish weekend afternoon playing a game with the kids while having a couple of beers, but the Thing that really lift this place to Truely stunning is the Beer events about once a month a brewer will appear and the Bar will showcase their beer, often taking up all 20(21) lines KID FRIENDLY

Modern, young bar in a very good way close to the centre of the old town in Edinburgh. Essentially a beer bar that does some food rather than the other way round and for that it gets raised marks for me. Really friendly and laid back, the bar-man really knew his beers and could discuss any one of them, with tasters. The pub has several levels from basement to mezzanine floor, all comfortably furnished with no unfinished ceilings or rough boarding, all nicely done. The beer choice is huge, we visited twice during our stay and thoroughly enjoyed both occasions. Our top venue in Edinburgh (just) and recommended.

I am one of those guys who places the ambience of a pub just as high as any other aspect of the experience. Hanging Bat is a good example. Ambience is terrific, in an American pub sort of way. Add to that outstanding service on a busy Friday evening, a good beer selection, and a friendly crowd, and it becomes a top stop in Edinburgh. As good as it gets.
