I signed up just to review this urine in a can. Have the best memories of the two liter bottles of cider in Waterford Ireland that we would happily get snockered on. Have yet to determine the name of that cider. In pursuit of it I have been buying each cider available for grocery store prices. They have all been a sweet mess. I thought I hit some top shelf when I saw this import, but was weary of an English version of cider. This stuff is more akin to a white wine, if served as such I wouldnít have known the difference. Perhaps I am biased, but this truly does smell like my urine and the taste canít be far from it. I want my money back and have lost all hope in the ciders available at the grocery store. My bad, I will have to step up my game to the taverns and Growler fills to find what I am after. Those prices are a far cry from the two liters sold around Ireland though, so I will first have a hand at fermenting my own cider and see how that turns out. I gave this cider a little credit on appearance since it does look like a crisp apple juice, but I think what I want is a cloudy finish that doesnít again, look just like my toilet aftermath. Did I mention I want my money back?

Single from WFB. Mason jar pour. Clear, pale, golden straw-colored body. Sizzling carbonation. Smell is surprisingly good. Fresh pear & honeydew. Taste is much the same. Low carbonation. Thin. Mild pear, big on leeche, mellow eating apples. Bottle says they also add natural flavors. Hides the usual strained yeasty flavor I get from Crispin, but I feel slighted(because I liked it).

Crispin Artisanal Reserve The Saint
Visual: Pours slightly hazy yellow with large bubbles clinging to the side of the glass, no head, the same bubbles sporadically surfacing.

Nose: tangy apple juice. (lvl-5)-pungency

Attack: crisp-dense juicy, slightly tart

Mid-palate: (lvl-5-sweetness), sour-tangy acidity, bright apple juice, rounded body, yeasty mild palate rough, subtle non-descript spices

Finish: maple syrup undertones, apple juice exhale

Summary: An inviting big fruity apple flavour with a good amount of tangy-sour acidity and a hint of spice and maple syrup to round it out. Not exceptionally complex but enjoyable nonetheless. Solid.

Crispin Browns Lane Imported English Cider
Like the previous rater, I was thrilled when I found the cider. I have long struggled with (and dissed a great deal) the preponderance of American ciders that are far too sweet, heavily carbonated, and artificial. Iíve had a lot of English cider; in fact, I first developed a taste for cider while living in England. That, to me, is the true cider. This cider gets a great deal right about the English style. I liked that there was body and it didnít depend on carbonation to appeal to the palate. The aroma had that classic English cider vibe. The flavor is flush with the varietals youíd get in Herefordshire. If thereís any complaint, I wasnít wholly satisfied by the mid-to-late finish, which persists but doesnít evolve or round off the flavor. At a few moments, it felt as though the finish were a little hollow. But overall, this was still a lovely can of cider, aspiring to the greatest of all cider traditions (apologies to the French, the Quebecois, etc.). Can.

Crispin Blackberry & Pear Cider
Purple-raspberry copper hue with no head. Artificial blackberry alcohol phenols on the nose and light pear. Juicy sweet but paradoxically dryish flavor thatís full of blackberry and pear, artificial sugary booze phenols and a berry fleshy finish. Honestly not that bad, but itís entertaining like a disaster movie. Not redeemable on any aspect other than I can turn my brain off and enjoy itís baser qualities.

Crispin Original
2015 BJCP Category: C1A New World Cider

AROMA: Light aroma of mostly green/golden apples. Slight tartness. No acidity. Mild nose overall. 6/12

APPEARANCE: Pale gold hue; crystal clear with consistent CO2 visible. White foam immediately dissipates. 3/3

FLAVOR: Medium to semi-sweet palette, no superfluous sugary presence. Flavor is mostly red apple with distinct green apple tartness on the finish. Faint acidity in the aftertaste, but it does not linger. 14/20

MOUTHFEEL: Medium-light body and carbonation (not as crisp as it looks). Refreshing with a fairly clean aftertaste. Light tannins. 3/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Pretty standard, no-frills cider. Itíd be better either bone dry or richly sweet. 7/10

TOTAL SCORE: 33/50

Crispin Browns Lane Imported English Cider
As a lifelong cider lover who never got into beer at all, I was thrilled to discover this cider. Previously a fan of original Strongbow, original Blackthorn and Scrumpy Jack, none of which seem to be available in the USA anymore, I definitely appreciate a good, dry cider - the type apparently not appreciated by the American palate (or so I have read). This is very crisp and only a little fizzy. It is not supposed to taste of yeast or anything other than fermented apples. I have no idea why people are discussing its head and even calling its lack of one a negative, as cider isnít supposed to have a head! Honestly not sure of the relevance of appearance. Somerset Scrumpy, the unfiltered stuff made at orchards, is so dense you canít see a pinheadís depth into it, so would score very poorly on looks. But if anyone let that put them off, they would be missing out. I suggest people concentrate on taste - something this has in abundance. Enjoy this very cold - like an Australian lager. Donít water it down with ice - save that for poor quality ciders like Magners. This is a superb cider for purists, and particularly refreshing on a hot day.

Crispin Bourbon Char
Bomber from the Woodland, CA CostCo. Pours pale gold with bubbles. Aroma of apples, with something suggesting maple. Med minus body, but more body than most ciders. Flavor is apple, maple, touch of smoke, and I think I can find bourbon. For me it seems the maple and smoke is strongest, but the bourbon is there. Not really getting any wood, and it is not quite dry. It is smooth and tasty. Well done!

This would be the first cider for me to analyze. Crisp in has a nice label, almost wine worthy labeling which drew me to trying it and expecting more from it than an Angry Orchard or Redds offering. This is essentially what Miller light would taste like with an apple juice infusion. Very light and very low concentration of apple flavor. So drinkable that it would be fitting for a toddler. A highly refined cider, lacking depth and character.

I think I may have an old bottle as the aroma is kind of funky and not in a good way. Apples, yes; unwashed body parts, no. Palate is good tho. This is what real English cider is supposed to taste like. Using the correct type of apple, and fermented in traditional way. A lot of people mention no head, itís cider, itís not supposed to have a head. If you are going to rate it in same style as a beer you are doing the product a disservice.

One of the lighter, weaker ciders Iíve had thusfar. Aroma is actually watery apples, very light. Pours very crisp, light with average head. Taste is consistent on the front and back, like a watered-down apple. A bit dry on the palate, very light pour. Not very impressive though, as itís rather boring throughout.

Thatís got a nice aroma to it. It looks just like cranberry juice, smells like pear and tastes like blackberry and pear juice with significant sugar added. This is more like something you would drink out of a juice box through a small bendy straw in your lunch box.

5oz draft pour at Whole Foods Old Town Alexandria. Poured a clear light purple juice color with a fizzy off-white head. Aroma was blackberry with a touch of pear juice. The pears come out of this one a lot more than Iím used to with these - where the pear is really muted which leaves just a generic juice flavor. Blackberry was a nice addition. This was a lot less sweet than I expected.

They were absolutely right when they said that this would cellar well, and Iím disappointed that I donít have more stashed away. Mine was aged 4.5 years in a refrigerator. The aroma has good wood notes with lots of green apple, which is the biggest flavor element, but there is also complexity, not particularly of whisky but dry and rounded with a floral note. Really easy drinking, interesting. Excellent cider. Bottle.
