Victory Storm King Imperial Stout
17.10.2017, 12 oz bottle @ home:
Big brown bubbly-creamy longlasting head. Aroma is slightly sour-ish roasted, dark malts, sour-ish roasted grain, sour coffee, toast, dark sugar, grass, alcohol, hops, minerals, licorice. Taste is slightly dry sour-ish roasted, bark, burnt toast, alcohol, sour-ish roasted grain, sour coffee, harsh hops, grass, hay, paper, hints of licorice. Medium to longlasting bitterness, slightly harsh sour-ish roasted mouthfeel. Fair enough, not really my cup of tea.

Victory Storm King Imperial Stout
From Aug 2006 Poured from 12oz bottle(Enjoy Mar 16 11) a pitch black with a medium sized head of foam that shrunkly quickly but left a solid layer with lacing. The smell is all roasty at first and then really hoppy with alcohol notes present as well. Holding my nose to the glass for a bit longer, I notice there's some chocolate there too. The taste comes at you from 3 directions: There's a very nice roasted malt-chocolate bite that hits me first followed by a hop bitterness that stops this brew from ever getting too sweet, nice.. and for me, there's just a touch of the alcohol noted in the smell but dang, it makes me think, this is 9.1%abv? How dog gone smooth for a RIS but it's not due to lack of flavour; 3 directions? Yeah but...they all come together and make for a most enjoyable sipping experience! Bottom line: I need more of this stuff!! Thanks to jwc215 for this sample!

From Jan 2006 Poured from bottle(bottled on Aug 27th 2004) a ruby semi *clear* gold with a very nice head of foam that diminishes slowly but never leaves the scene. The smell was immediately apparent right after I removed the stubborn cork....a whoosh of mixed fruits including bananas and plums. Oh, and there's a bit of a sour smell there as well. Could be good. ;^) The taste is very fruity as well. Tons of plum with some banana and some citrus and also, a sweetness that smacks of caramel. In the far background, I sense a bit of clove. Wow. This son of a gun is so complex and wonderfully harmonious with its flavours. And dang, the 12% abv is there but is pretty well hidden. Why was this beer retired??? Thank goodness I have 3 more bottles. *Clear as in I'm drinking from the first 3rd of the bottle. What is left in the bottle is looking a bit more cloudy. Btw, I've had this one a couple of times in the past(+2 years ago) and the bottling dates weren't a year and a half from when I tried them like this one(much less) so the aging done by Liquid Solutions or whomever has definitely paid off big time, imho! Bottom line: If you see some around your neck of the woods....grab 'em!

Victory Moonglow Weizenbock
12 oz. bottle from Dutch's, purchased in 2014. Best enjoyed by 19 August 2015. Whoops. Didn't see that until tonight. Anyway, it pours a hazy chestnut color with a big off-white head that settles unevenly. Notes of toast, bananas, brown sugar, earth, leaves, chocolate, dried fruits, and wheat. Light-medium bodied, with medium carbonation and a sweet, relatively clean mouthfeel for the style. But that could be the age.

Pours a slightly orange golden effervescent beer. Taste is quite sweet, a bit of honey, grape juice type flavours, fairly winey, almost a bit on the side of an ice wine but not that syrupy. Very yeasty beer, overall a bit on the sweet side for my taste, with a bit of heat in the end.

Bottle. Whaaaa ...? I've never rated this? Golden Monkey is one of my faves, and Sour Monkey is one of the wife's. A solid twist on the GM basis, this is a great, tart, example of the style to introduce folks into sours. Super sweet, puckering .. that's how it goes. (#6799, 10/9/2017)

Victory Blackboard Series #7 Black Forest Cake Stout with Cherry
Opaque pour into a chalice. Thick creamy two finger head that dissipated quickly leaving plenty of lacing. Aromas of coffee, chocolate and cherry. Tastes were bitter chocolate and sweet cherry. Thick creamy mouthfeel with a nice dry finish. I really liked this offering from the first sip. Much better and more sessionable than the storm king. Great stout.

Victory Sour Monkey
This is called a sour, brett fermented tripel - a sour version of Victory's Golden Monkey. The sour aspect dominates easily, but I do taste a bit of the Monkey underneath. Lots of bright, lemony lactic acid, and an undercurrent of nutty brett. This could use a little more sweetness imo but sour fans should jump right in. The high abv is completely submerged. The musky, sweet and tart floral aroma began to grow on me. And serving it at a little higher temperature brings out a good, complex side. I like their Tart 10, a similar brew, a little more but this is good too.

Victory Selene Saison
750 ml. corked and caged bottle. Pours a thick, well retained, light beige head, with layered lacing, over a clear brown (SRM 25) body.......nose is heavy roasted malts, with cocoa, chocolate, slight banana, mild licorice, slight hop spice, blance to the malts.....taste is rye, oats, chocolate, cocoa, from the various roasted malts, light banana, hints of dark fruits, dry throughout, finishing with slight hop bitterness and hints of sourness, balance to the malts......mouth feel, medium sticky body, mild alcohol warmth, moderate carbonation. This is a relatively unusual Saison with the roasted malts of the multiple grains dominating the yeasts contributions in both aroma and flavor. It is almost into the realm of a slightly spiced Porter rather than the spicy, floral tones in the more typical paler examples of Saison. BJCP 6/3/10/4/6

Pours amber-whiskey colored and mostly translucent with a one finger off white head with good retention and an aroma of citrus. Tastes of malt and the hops give a wood/oak character with mild bitterness. It has a strong medium body with moderate carbonation. The malt tastes of slightly sweet caramel. It's warming and complex. I prefer an IPA with a strong malt backbone. This is complex, well balanced and very good.

This is a average All Day IPA. It is not a lager. Looks like the Brewers are trying to repackage the IPAs as a lager for some marketing reason. Victory is not the only brewery doing this as I have recently found. I do not see the need for this. Just call it what it is. Not a bad beer overall.

Victory Festbier
Quality marzen, alluring in its sweetness yet not indulgent, mixing caramel and toffee notes with a nutty backbone and undertones of toast and crackers. Finishes with a hint of lager esters and a tiny spark of floral noble hops. Nose is a bakery in full swing, and the pour's lovely, deep orange-brown with a thick white head and minimal lacing. Texture is seriously creamy, carbonated just enough to keep the malts from growing unwieldy but smooth as hell. Very good festbier.

Clear orange to copper pour with a thin, soapy white head. Aroma is caramel biscuit and bready malts, light sweet citrus, some dank and spicy citrus hops. Pretty subdued aroma-wise. Flavor is toast, oily grain, deep citrus, a little dank, pine shoots, mineral and a tiny bit of catbox. Medium body, dry, slightly oily feel, a bit astringent in the finish, light to medium, sharp carbonation. Good stuff overall, could definitely use more early additions of hops though.
