Sambrooks Scrumdown
Cask half-pint on 14th Feb 2017 in ’Knowles of Norwood. Red hue to the dark brown body, the head a beige affair that hung around (like on a hookers shoulder). Malty aroma and taste, maybe a handful of Rye thrown into the kettle? Starts like it’s going to be fairly sweet, then tails off to a semi-bitter finish. Not the best Sambrooks beer I have had. Something not quite right about it.

33 cl bottle in the Brixton Wetherspoons on 22nd Jan 2017. Slight red hue to the golden orange body, white head. The nose had a fruity ester or two, with a slight maltiness. The taste was citric in nature, the finish dry and not too bitter compared to the initial sips. Bordering on interesting.

Cask handpull at Hamilton Hall London as Sambrooks Brown Dog Riot. Well it’s certainly brown with an orange hue, foamy beige head. Aroma is marmalade, some choc orange vibes. Body is smooth with soft to low carbonation. Taste is gummy bears, grassy fruity hops, orange boiled sweets and childhood gummy sweets, squash, nice level of bitterness. A very good fruity cask offering. Could and would drink a few pints happily.

Sambrooks Four Chimneys Chocolate Stout
Cask at the George IV. Not sure in what way this is a stout, it’s dark red-brown with a thin head and I’d have guessed more at an old ale or ESB. Light choc aromas plus a hint of fruity malt. More cocoa notes on the palate plus a bit of roasted malt, over a lightly bitter-sweet body with a hint of fruitcake. Bitter and light roasty notes linger in the aftertaste.

December 2016 - Bottle share at 1 Canada Square. Thanks Leighton! As Sambrooks Black IPA, 6.9%. Dark brown with a red hue, big foamy brown head. Aroma is piney, lip gloss, fruity pick n mix sweets. Body is smooth with soft carbonation. Taste has some cararmel, a little cheesy hop, apple, hops are piney-salty-floral too but there’s a slight cheesy vibe which brought this down a touch for me. Still a nice CDA. (3.6)

It was an alcoholic stout and didn’t compare to some of the multi-dimensional ones that I have sampled recently. There was malt and alcohol and that was about it. There was no head and no real mouth feel. I know that I am probably being a bit unfair, but there you go!
