Wye Valley Summit
Cask-conditioned at the Pelican, Gloucester January 2018. Golden in colour, with a slight, white, head. Citrus hops, crisp, biscuity, malts, some grapefruit sharpness leading to a dryish finish. Good.

A decent crack at this, Wye Valleys first lager. Head dissipates quickly, flavoursome and moorish. New brew or gassed HPA?

Bottle from Mam and Dad's holiday, Southern England. Hazy pale golden coloured with a thin white head. It has sweet fruity, toffee and slight floral flavour followed by caramel and vanilla notes on the smooth finish. Not bad.

Tap at the Pup and Duckling, Solihull. Poured a clear dark copper colour with a frothy white head. The aroma is sweet malt, biscuit, light sweet fruit, woody hop. The flavour is moderate bitter light sweet with a smooth, rich grainy malt, fruity, big woody hop bitter palate and a long bitter finish. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. A fine session ale.

Bottle at home from Laithwaite. A lovely deep red on the pour and a pleasant head. This beer was all about the malts and they rightly dominated the taste. There were some hops, but not any where near the number I was expecting from the blurb on the bottle. It was pleasant, but quite underwhelming.

Real Ale in a Holiday Inn (Bromsgrove). This one is as bright as a summers Day colour of a lager, not too hoppy but could drink it all day.

Cask @ Salopian, the pub. Pours clear gold, small foamy off-white head. Some pleasantly sweet malt on the nose which nestles nicely in character. Balanced and moreish bitter.

I thought this would be super hoppy as the name suggests, but I was really disappointed, just a bitter

Pint on cask at the Three Horseshoes, Little Cowarne, Herefordshire (2017-10-04). A very traditional English beer - nothing too pronounced in flavour or aroma, but a deeply satisfying session beer. Delicious after a hard day making cider!

(Bottle) Pours clear amber with good white head. Pleasant aroma - grassy, some citrus notes. Light body with plenty of carbonation. Taste is light malt with plenty of balancing tartness, and some pleasant bitterness in finish. Pleasant but unexceptional.

Bottle from Sainsburys. Aroma has cereal, nuts, and floral hops, with a background note of cooked vegetables. Pours a clear, light golden, amber with thin white top that does not stick around. Taste is medium sweet and lightly sour; so this bitter is reluctant to be bitter. Palate has medium body, slick feel, average carbonation, and at last a butter finish. If my luck holds this Worcestershire ale should ensure that I have had a beer from all the counties of England. Many of them have been better than this.

Wye Valley Samba Ale
17th Aug 2017. Cask pint from the Crown Inn, Oakengates: sat in the sun trap out back of the pub. Clear amber pour, white head. Fruity in nature, this had a decent orange/tropical fruit aroma and taste, leaning towards the sweeter end of the citrus flavours. The sun helped to brighten the day and my thoughts on this beer.
