Bottle at a private tasting in Rome-Italy, with daniele and Mortlach. Thanks daniele. Golden/orange pour, medium and persistent white foam with much retention. Nose: the wine dominates too much in a very unpleasant way, sadly. Much wine...strong red wine. Mouth: chewing wine feel, very unbalanced but not bad at all. I need to get back on it. What a fantastic chance to get on it. Grazie Daniele.

Bottle. Bought Aug 2015; No BB date; Drank June 2016 - Dark Brown in colour. Slight head. No lacing. Smoky aroma. Very Malty; smoked malts, smoked peat, smoked ham, roasty malts, caramel. Fruity; dark fruits, raisins, prunes. Bit spicy; peppery. Warming alcohol. Heavily smoked sweet roast malty fruity and dry throughout. Enjoyed this a lot. Nice Smoked Beer! (2016-06-18)

On tap @Bir&Fud (Rome). Dorata limpida, schiuma bianca media persistente. Al naso sentori di origano, pasta lievita, pomodoro... in una parola, pizza. Davvero intrigante! In bocca purtroppo risulta piuttosto grezza e di non facile bevuta, con note di vegetale cotto molto sgradevoli. Corpo leggero, carbonazione media. Birra da sniffare.

375 mL bottle poured. Much thanks to Alberto/Matt for the bottle share! A treat for sure this one is! Pours a muddy brown with a quick fade head. I don’t think I’ve ever had a beer like this before. Smokey, but a sweet background to it. Some maple. Some wood. Tobacco? Bacon? Haha, it really does have everything. A decent sipper, and a really fun and unique beer to try. Nice!

Bottle in Seattle. Huge thanks to Alberto for this treat! No head, very little carbonation. Deep molasses smoke nose, sweet and nice. Still sweet cola, light smoke overtones. Alcohol is rather in check until some sweet burn on finish. Some vanilla, some smoky pork. Nice beer, with some minor body problems.

Bevuta versione liscia anno 2014. Colore bruno, carbonazione assente. Sentori si caramello, torrefatto ma soprattutto frutta secca (prugna, datteri, ciliege sotto spirito). Corpo pieno. L’alcol travolge sul finale creando un bel effetto riscaldante. Birra complessissima. Spettacolare.

Great deep aroma, heavily roasted, with bitter chocolate, coffee, strong smokiness, a bit of dark fruits, and a light alcohol hint. Sweet-sourish flavor with chocolate, coffee, roast, smoke, dark fruits, a bit of bitterness, and a very light alcoholic note. Full-bodied, rounded. Great stuff. Very rich, alcohol is well-concealed.

Bottle share at Kenny’s 20K. Thanks! As ’Birra del Convento Carrobiolo O.G. 1111’. Very dark red, some sediment, small foamy off-white head. Aroma is booze, astringent smoke, peaty, burnt coffee. Body is rounded, smooth, soft carbonation. Taste is phenolic, peaty, redcurrant, booze, smoke continues into the medicinal finish. Quite nice.

Bottle from deep in Kernel’s rotbox, consumed at Kenny’s 20K tasting. It pours clear deep red - brown with a small off-white head. The nose is bitter - sweet, earthy, musty, smoked malts, wood, damp leaves and brown sugar. The taste is bitter - sweet, woody, earth, leather, smoke, burnt toffee, sugary, dried fruits, toasted malt, tangy Dandelion & Burdock and a touch of liquorice. Medium - full body, fine carbonation and chewy mouth-feel. A bit sweet and sugary overall, which detracts from the overall experience. A bit messy overall. So-so.

Bottiglia @ Simei 2015, Milano. Il gusto al naso rimanda al caffè. L’intensità olfattiva è elevata e la persistenza olfattiva è considerevole. Il cappello è di schiuma timida e non persistente. Il colore è marrone. Il corpo è rotondo. L’intensità gustativa è elevata e la persistenza gustativa è buona. Il gusto è piacevole. Le sensazioni boccali finali sono lunghe. Il finale è felpato, complesso e amarognolo. Il retrogusto è persistente. L’aroma è di caramello, torbato, malto da whisky, tamarindo, china, miele di castagno.

GBBF Day 4. Keg. Light haze on this amber beer, small cream colour head. Palate is light, semi dry and has modest fine carbonation. Dry ginger, floral ginger, fruity ginger! That will be ginger then! Not much heat though. A little bitterness in the dry crisp finish. Not bad.
