16 oz can. This is pretty good. Hazy golden pour with a big fluffy white head. Juicy. Soft palate that is a little frothy in the mouth. Better than I was expecting. A bit of plant character too.

Tiny pour, on tap at Autumn Brew Review in Minneapolis. Consumed on 9-16-17. Pours a hazy, cloudy, murky tan. Big bubbles in the beige head (not attractive). Funky hops in aroma. Watermelon scent. Watermelon, melon, and mineral flavor. Pretty good funkiness. Smooth in the palate. Medium body. Too far in the New England direction but far from awful. 6.2.6.3.12=>2.9

Bank Sour Bomb: Raspberry
Approximately 2 oz. pour, on tap at Union 32 in Eagan, Minnesota. Consumed on 7-13-17. Lightly hazy but mostly clear reddish color. Pinkish head. Appealing color. Heavy raspberry and light tartness in aroma. Nice, quite sour flavor. Definite raspberry. Ultimately a simple beer but a likable one. Lemon. More sour than most in the style. Light body. Insubstantial in palate. Too simplistic to get a particularly high score but pleasant and enjoyable. Well-executed. 7.4.7.2.14=>3.4

Bank Hop Lab - Blue
22 oz. bottle, consumed on 6-10-17. “Bottled on May 2017.” Pours a clear bronze with a moderate amount of beige head. Classic Citra aroma features scents of lemon and vanilla. Sweet, funky yet fresh, citric flavor features elements of orange and lemon. Pickle juice and peach juice. Significantly sweeter than I would prefer. Lacks bitterness that should come from a bittering hop, but the bittering hop is missing. Medium body. Smooth in the palate. I think I’m starting to get over Citra. Not an awful beer but no longer the sort of IPA that does it for me. Part of the unfortunate trend of juicier, sweeter (yet not particularly malty), less bitter IPAs that are really dragging down the traditionally great IPA style (but, in fairness, this doesn’t go as far in that unfortunate direction as do most New England IPAs). I was over this beer after the first 4 oz.; this is a reminder to avoid large-format bottles. I’m normally a Bank fan, but not here. 7.3.6.3.13=>3.2

Bank Hop Lab - White
Approximately 18 oz. from a 22 oz. bottle, consumed on 3-26-17. “Bottled on 03-17,” meaning March 2017, so I’m drinking it fresh. Bright, yeasty aroma of freshly baked white bread or even white bread dough. Lemon or lemondrop candy scent. Mineral smell. Pours a clear, fairly dark bronze with a moderate amount of beige head. Mild haze in the later pours. Moderate effervescence. Nice-looking liquid, dark for the style. Lemon (first and foremost), grass, and watermelon flavors. Melon (non-watermelon melon) as well, but I don’t want to give the impression that the beer is excessively fruity; it’s not. A little funky (“dank”) in the finish. Alcohol lightly noticeable, which isn’t a big problem but isn’t ideal. Some sort of non-standard grain taste, perhaps buckwheat (not saying that’s in the mash, just that I get the flavor). A little bit of vanilla. Interesting flavor. The doughy bread quality continues into the flavor, although to a lesser degree than it appears in the aroma, and I like it. I definitely wish there were more bitterness, but I suppose that’s hard to achieve with El Dorado (which of course merely means that this shouldn’t be a single-hop beer). Medium to full body, full for the style. Frothy. Soft in the palate. Some liveliness but not as much as there should be. I find myself writing this frequently these days: A soft palate is great in a bitter IPA as a contrast to the bitterness, but it merely feels weak and effeminate in an IPA that fails to use a bittering hop. Overall, the beer is likable despite its imperfections and memorable, and I can’t help but give it a good score. A more bitter version of this beer, where the bitterness covers the alcohol flavor and makes the palate more, well, palatable, could’ve been a very good beer, earning a score of perhaps 4.1. Please, brewers, don’t spare the bittering hops! The pussification of the IPA, as represented by the “New England” substyle, is an unfortunate fad, not something to which to aspire. The beer is nice and fresh, probably at about its peak, and I suspect it won’t hold up well to the hops fading (i.e., “best drunk fresh”). Memorable beer, and I’m glad I tried it.

Bomber pours a clear golden/copper with a large beige head. Tropical hop aroma with strawberry and peaches, caramel malt. Fruity bubble gum flavors, strawberry banana taffy, caramel malt and a light bitterness on the finish. Nice flavors but they’re muted and mild, would have liked to see it juicy and more flavorful. Not bad though.

Bank Hop Lab - Pink
22 oz. bottle, consumed on 1-13-17. Pours a clear bronze with a moderate amount of beige head. Pretty good effervescence. Ordinary appearance. Nice but light Mosaic aroma. Grassy, herbal smell. A touch of uncooked oatmeal (oats, if you will) in the aroma, to my surprise. Some vanilla. Aroma is pleasant but not strong and underwhelming by standards of Mosaic hop. Flavor is similar to but stronger (and thus better) than the aroma. Orange zest. Dry finish and aftertaste. Slightly bitter aftertaste. Quite tasty. Soft and lively; almost lager-like crispness in the palate. Medium body. Good palate effects. Underwhelms in appearance and aroma but ends up being a well above average and quite tasty IPA. Really well-made. I actually like this even more than my already pretty high score indicates; that’s why I gave it a high overall score.

Bank Sour Bomb
Pours a hazy, dull yellow with low head. There’s a sour edge here, but that’s all it has, and even then, it isn’t as sour as a Cantillon or other lambic. (The name of the beer has the disadvantage of raising expectations, then.) There are few flavors here. Seeing that it is labeled as a Berliner weisse helps explain that a bit, because a lambic would have more interesting flavors, but even so, taken simply from a hedonistic perspective, there’s a stunning lack of anything going on in this beer. And, at $10.59 for a bottle, I felt it was really poor value. Bottle.

750ml bottle acquired from deyholla. Thanks a bunch, bro. Shared at the Fear Household on NYE. Pours a nice hazy straw hue, a dulled color and mellow lemon cereal hue with subtle glow. Frothy mellow bubbly head stays as a nice mellow ringer, subtle lacing and kick around in small capacity. Aromas are a bit twangy, bready and mellow yogurt meet some punchy metallic and subtle lemony him. Green apple, subtle earth and sweet tart. Mellow, bready. Initial is lighter bodied, a bit flabby with a mellow fizzy carbonation that doesn’t quite do it. Gentle lactic twang, lemon rind and some tart citric appeal. Mellow body, a bit of straw and bready malts. Some tart citric appeal comes on, green apple, subtle tart grapes and earth. Subtle lemonade, earth, yogurt and a metallic punch into that backend anf finifhsm flabby, a bit of stomach acid and earthy finish. Ok. A bit underwhelming and doesn’t quite come together as you’d like. Lacking spritz and punch
