Toppling Goliath Mosaic Dry Hopped pseudoSue
Bottle on 3/23/17. Served from 22 oz. bottle into glass. Pours deep gold in color, medium clarity with vibrant white head. Huge complex hop aroma, mostly fruit; berry, mango, peach, with bubblegum and a hint pine. The fruit aroma isnít extremely citrusy but more savory and slightly earthy. Flavor is again hugely hoppy, peach and mango are even more prominent. Slightly citrus aftertaste. Very little malt character is detectable. Medium hop bitterness and a slightly dry finish. Medium body, smooth, and medium carbonation. Overall this beer is a fruity hop bomb. The aroma is complex and intriguing, full of depth and nuance. Drinking it is like taking a bite of a fresh juicy peach. The full body, mild bitterness and dry finish makes it supremely drinkable. A great expression of Mosaic hops and an overall great beer.

Bottle in the dining room, just now.
The stuff looks pretty great lightly hazy & pale gold with a big fluffy white head that leaves nice lacing on the glass.

The aroma is sort of dank & fruity wafting off the pour but goes pretty dang piney as it sits in the glass. Super apromatic & hop forward, inviting and well controlled on alcohol presence.

The flavor is big & hoppy, decidedly more bitter than Iím used to from these guys, but I think it works fine with the piney on grapefruit hop profile. The malt character is clean but subdued (no complaints) & the booze level is too much, itís not disgusting or anything or like "hot" Iíd just prefer not to taste this much alcohol aligside these other lovely flavors.
Itís a very good double IPA

This is a good if unexceptional IPA. Itís a hazy pale orange color w/ a fine-bubbled white head. I am getting a sort of foxy concord grape character out of this and a good deal of sweet citrus as well. Itís only a touch sweet but fairly full-bodied and oily in texture. This is nice and bitter with a hint of a minty herbal sort of note in the finish which I am not 100% crazy about. Still, this stuff is nice and hoppy and perfectly drinkable. Iíd get it all the time if I didnít have quite a few local options I liked better.

Can 50 cl / Bier-Bienne (CH). Black beer practically without foam despite a lobbery can. Aromas of wet cereals, chocolate, roasted, hay and molasses. The taste is on chocolate with notes of almond, a slight floral bitter of hop, hints of molasses and sweetness of oat. A finish more dry on the length. Drinkable despite the evolution.

Flavor is surprisingly sweet up front, with some toast, caramel, big, bright citrus, a little tropical fruit, a hint of pine. Lightish body, creamy feel on entry, medium, blanketing and sharp carbonation, Really tasty, refreshing stuff that is surprisingly full flavored. .

Old notes from a bottle procured in Minnesota. Nice golden-orange hue with moderate carbonation and a light-to-medium body. Very pleasant hop aromas. Malt flavors were bready, lightly doughy, and slightly sweet. Hops offered loads of citrus as well as floral aromas. Nothing over the top. Just a balanced and enjoyable IPA.

I think if this was billed as something other than an IPA, its ratings would be higher. Hints of IPA in the finish, but otherwise its a nice barrel-aged ESB. All around this is a tasty beer - drinkable, complex, sweet wood and smoke from barrel, and a bitter finish.

Toppling Goliath pseudoSue - Citra Double Dry Hopped
On tap @ TG, and later that night from a bomber. Pours a hazy, dirty yellow orange juice with pillowy head that leaves amazing lacing. Aroma is super juicy and dank with a mix of orange, mango, pineapple, and candy. Taste is more juicy citrus up front, then into some dank, earthy, citrus, diesel mix. Aftertaste is bitter, mildly pithy, assertive -- then lingers into a complex retronasal that rounds out the experience. Palate is sticky and heavy, which is appropriate for how intensely flavorful this beer is. This stuff is complex orange and pineapple juice with alcohol, which apparently is what Iíve always been looking for in a beer. My dream is to have this next to King Sue someday, but with my limited knowledge of only having tasted 1,000 beers, this one is my favorite... my deserted island beer.

16 oz. can poured to a Czech-pils glass at Lunar Brewing Co., showing a lightly hazed, orangey gold color, with a modest layer of diminishing, off white foam, and web-like cling to the lacing. The nose was citrus as grapefruit & orange, maybe a little pit fruit, with a touch of pine, light caramel sweetness, and slight hints of mint & herb. Medium bodied, with average carbonation that presented a touch of seltzer-like quality, the taste was somewhat similar notes, adding earthy & rind-like bitterness, and some dryness to the finish. A little muddled, and not overly clean & bright, but a decent style rep.

$9/4-pack of 16floz cans purchased in St. Louis Metro East area. Dated 02.01.2017. Consumed 03.16.2017 from an imperial nonic glass. This beer meets the hype as a superb example of an APA. Gold in body topped with two-fingers worth of head. Smells like a musty grapefruit (in a good way). A hopped forward beer where grapefruit and pine battle it out over just enough graininess from the malts. Initial mouthfeel is wet, but it leaves a long dry finish. Although, good in a way, the residual bitterness prevents me from awarding a couple more points. Iíve had other citra hop beers providing similar characteristics, yet this one has done the best job.

Pours a clear golden with a full, foamy white head that recedes slowly. The aroma is tropical, pleasing, potent enough without being overpowering. We get pineapple, orange, grapefruit, pine, floral hops, and caramel. Of these, the grapefruit and pineapple stand tall. The taste is sweet and dry with some solid bitterness. Grapefruit and pine are strong, some floral and herbal hops come through, a little pineapple, and finally a little bit of caramel. The aftertaste is a long, bitter grapefruit. Medium in body, sticky and thick in texture, and lively carbonation. Its a good IPA.

On tap at Champps in Brookfield. Pours a hazy dull orange with an off white head leaving great coats of lace. Aroma is lightly "tropical fruit" hoppy. Taste tangy, to the bitter fruity side. Citrus. The tangy fruit is a bit strange. Lighter than medium bodied, the blend is solid. Finishes tangy fruity sweet. Nothing bad, but knowing TG, disappointing. Move on. 13.4

Taste is bitter with only a slight hint of sweet malts in the middle before a long dry finish. Body is medium with average carbonation and a sticky yet crisp mouthfeel. Easily drinkable, despite a wallop of fruitiness. A great American Pale Ale, right up there with Alpha King and Zombie Dust.

16 ounce can from Badger Spirits in Beloit, WI, served 10 minutes out of the fridge in a Guinness glass. A fluffy but brittle-looking white head fills half the glass atop the lightly hazy medium amber body and takes forever to decay....pungent aroma; yes there is the promised citrus but mostly this is loamy/earthy, with a distinct oniony note - Mosaic hops seem likely - and some hints of wildflowers, mostly as it warms...on the tongue the oniony character comes through again, though only faintly, and this is on the whole drier and more acerbic than most of this breweryís hoppy beers, though there is still some juiciness at the front...the finish is relatively dry, a bit woody, and quite bitter...carbonation medium to strong, body full and satisfying. This is just a bit too dry and hard for me, I tend to like a slightly juicier and fruitier PA, but itís certainly not a disappointment even given this breweryís high standards - if it falls a little low for me itís probably more due to the particular hop/malt balance here than to any failures. Still very much worth a try or even a second or third, but itís not going to displace PseudoSue for me.
