Lavery La Bealtaine
Honey and lightly copper coloured body with a very thin off-white head. Aroma of grass, perfume, hay, wheat and a lot of yeast/bread. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong grassy and herbal flavours at first that give way to perfume, a touch of grassy hop bitterness and a lot of wheat and yeast flavours that show a subtle complexity coupled with a hint of sugars. Aftertaste shows a mellow herbal and tea-like flavour that has some astringent notes and a hint of bitterness from hops, over top of the light sugars and wheat that are noticeable throughout. Overall, a decent wheat-based ale with a touch more hops than normal, but that isnt saying too much. Nice to sample, but definitely not worth going out of the way for by any means. I sampled this stubby twelve ounce bottle purchased from Liqour Outle in Boonton, New Jersey on 22-December-2015 for US$1,97 sampled at home in Washington on 01-June-2017.

Lavery Ulster Breakfast Stout
12 ounce bottle
This solid regional release suggests to me that Lavery is content to stick to their bread and butter releases. It does not have a wow factor but not every beer needs that. Instead it fills a void in the relative wasteland around Erie.

Aroma / Appearance - Inky black liquid flows downwards with a sticky focus. The beige head grows into a thick frosty head. Malt, dark chocolate, and black coffee form a heady dense texture which sticks in the nose.

Flavor / Palate - Black coffee, truffles, and a bitterness that ebbs and flows dance across the palate. The finish of cheap gas station coffee leaves a mark in the throat. The solid experience does not have much depth. Instead it focuses on being accessible, affordable, and inviting for people looking for a little local flavor in the Great Lakes region.

Lavery Belfast Black
Poured into a mug, the appearance was a light brown color with a nice sustaining finger’s worth of light tan foamy head that fell off at a moderate pace. Light lace. The aroma had some hazelnut roast, light ash/smoke, dark malts, subtle milk chocolate, sly dark chocolate with some earthy/grassy hop bitterness at the end. The flavor was smoky with the hazelnut roast and sweetness fairly bold and up front. Mild smoky aftertaste and finish. The feel was about medium bodied with a steady carbonation that was felt but fine. ABV felt fine. Pretty smooth/pillowy along my tongue. Overall, super nicely done smoked beer that I would love to have again, that was a real treat. Thanks Mom and Dad!

Lavery The Devil’s Darkside
2017/04/21 - Pours dark brown with a frothy khaki head that quickly reduces and leaves no lacing. Aroma is spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger), light pumpkin, roasted malt and vanilla. Taste is roasted/toasty malt, light pumpkin, pumpkin pie spices (clove, nutmeg, cinnamon) and vanilla. Mouthfeel is light to medium and slick with smooth carbonation and a spiced, vegetal finish. Mouthfeel was a little thin, but overall a nice pumpkin stout. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Lavery Madra Allta IPA
Bought this in a four pack, and was hoping for big things because I like their regular IPA. Unfortunately, it wasn’t as good and was two short for the same price. It has virtually no nose after being poured into a sample tasting glass (6 oz). Heavy, unfiltered appearance with a solid, pillowy head. The taste is sweet and spicy; to me, a slight nod to a rye IPA, but the label mentions nothing of the sort. Solid beer; not special enough to be packaged as a four pack - only 6.4% too.

Lavery The Devil’s Darkside
[Bottle (12oz)] Pours a very dark brown with a small frothy diminishing tan head. Nice aroma (7+) of spices and roasted malt, lightly sweet, and with some lactic notes, a hint of coffee and dark fruit -- nice if you like this kind of thing, and I do. Flavour of roasted malt, spices, lactic notes and a touch of chocolate -- all well balanced. Alcohol is hidden.Medium bodied. I quite enjoyed this.

Lavery Ulster Breakfast Stout
Bottle from WOB. Coffee, vanilla and oak aroma. Medium body. Some bite. It is quite malty. Warmth from the alcohol, more coffee, general earthiness and a vanilla sweetness make this a very dynamic stout. Sweet stout I say.

Lavery The Devil’s Darkside
Bottle:   Probably the darkest Pumpkin Stout I have seen, thin whispy beige head, spotty lacing.   Soft cinnamon and nutmeg, along with even softer sweet lactose like roasted malts.   Smooth on the tongue, very soft spices and sweet soft roasted malts.   Extremely nice balance.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Clean finish, spices arent much but there still is a little bit of that sweet roasted malts.   Spicy up front, more of a stout on the backside.   Enjoyable beer!   Thanks Mike!

Super good. Rich, complex, big. Oh so good. Really liking this brewery. Huge roasty notes. Espresso in spades. Plenty in the taste and nose. Dry and smoky palate, but 1st a bit of an oily start. Really nice.

Lavery Imperial Red Ale (IRA)
bottle @ House of 1000 Beers / New Kensington PA --- Aroma of malt, hops, and alcohol. Hazy brown color, beige head that is slow to drop, strips of lace. Taste is malt and dark fruit that grows stronger and heavier as it moves through light carbonation to a finish that has hops, fruitcake fruit, and alcohol. Strong and heavy. Half a bottle is enough for one night.

Can. Pours completely clear for an unfiltered IPA, amber color, minimal head. Aroma of mango juice, citrus, slight onion. Flavor was mango, lemon dish soap, light onion. light body, thin texture, lively carbonation, finishes slightly sweet with an odd soapy presence. Still liked it though and maybe my tastes were off with the soap part.

Lavery 1847 Rye Stout
bottle @ House of 1000 Beers / New Kensington PA --- Aroma of toasted malt, chocolate, and rye. Nearly opaque brown / black color, generous deep tan fluffy head that stays a long time at three fingers, big stripes of lace. Taste is toasted malt combined with bitter mocha (coffee and chocolate), not really any discernible rye for me. Medium carbonation on the swallow turns to more bitter mocha which drifts through a long finish. So big and bold for 5.6% - a solid brew.

Lavery La Bealtaine
bottle @ House of 1000 Beers / New Kensington PA --- Aroma of malt. Cloudy dark amber color, white head that stays for a full cover, sprays of lace. Taste is full-bodied semi-sweet malt that moves through medium carbonation to a firmly hopped finish. Most curious, because this is nowhere near a Wheat Ale profile, not in looks, not in flavor. Quite average overall.

Lavery Dulachan IPA
bottle @ House of 1000 Beers / New Kensington PA --- Aroma of hops and malt. Cloudy medium amber, bubbly white head that is sloe to recede, sprays of lace. Taste is semi-sweet malt that moves through medium carbonation to solid hops with light citrus overtones. The malt is never shut out, which gives this a profoundly balanced presentation. A totally satisfying brew. I’d like it again, but I also can’t wait to try Lavery’s other selections. High;y recommended.

Good, musty barnyard nose with a little bit of sour. Clear almost orange pour with loose white foam. The sour comes through stronger in the taste with the funkiness toward the end. Very active carbonation, light body. Slightly watery. The flavor developed as time passed. Dry finish. Would like to try again. Sampled at Pittsburgh Big Pour 2015.

Lavery Dulachan IPA
I first tried this gem at Pinocchio’s in Media, PA, but just had the ultimate beer run. A neighbor’s parents were visiting NJ from Erie, PA this 4th of July weekend, and they delivered! This IPA has a low ABV, but it packs a huge hop punch. It reminds me of the Mad Hatter IPA in terms of its citrus flavor, but it does have an earthiness that is similar to Victory’s Headwaters. BTW, my neighbor’s parents may be switching from (yak) LaBatt Blue to Dulachan IPA. Amazing that they only live a couple of miles from the brewery. Cheers!

I had it from the bottle. The aroma is coffee and vanilla. The taste is coffee, vanilla, oat, chocolate, and milk. The subtle sweetness is balanced nicely with some hop bitterness. This is a well-balanced and tasty stout. I would definitely get this again.
