Lagunitas Doppel Weizen
Bomber. Slightly hazy golden-orange with a small white head. Aroma is yeasty, estery with banana, orange, and pineapple. Flavor is sugary/estery sweetness with a touch of citrusy hop bitterness. Bright and yeasty. Medium-plus body with medium-high carbonation. Good for the style.

Lagunitas Davey Murray’s Best Scotch Ale
This is not even close to tasting like a Scotch ale. More like an average IPA. For a brewery that makes some amazing beers, this one is a bust.

Lagunitas Davey Murray’s Best Scotch Ale
Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is dark amber to medium brown. Aroma is moderately malty (caramel, bread), moderately hoppy (grapefruit, resin, apricot), with light notes of smoke, earth, plastic. Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium to full body, watery/syrupy texture, lively carbonation, moderately to heavily alcoholic. Really not a fan of the aroma...despite a nice little smoky note and ok malt, the rest is strong Americanized icky hop odor and some plastic. Ok flavor balance for this sorta thing but still pretty fatiguing, and the poor mouthfeel doesn’t help at all. Ultimately acceptable, but it certainly underperforms.

Lagunitas Doppel Weizen
Bomber sent by Lagunitas for review: The beer has a strong malty smell, with some of its alcohol right in the nose. It pours a puffy white head over a deep golden body. The taste is strongly alcoholic, but there’s plenty of malt to go with it. A slight side taste of the banana and clove esters that comes with a weizen beer, but not as noticeable. After a couple more sips; make that many more sips; I get a bit of graininess at the sides of my tongue. If this is cellared, some of the yeast might drop out to the bottom, but a malty, estery beer like this is best enjoyed in season.

Lagunitas CitruSinensis Pale Ale
Pours gold with a coarse white head, sticky lace. Fresh hop aroma, citrus, mild funk. Mouthfeel is a tad slick, refreshing though. Outstanding flavor, lovely medley of hops and oranges, not too acidic though, pleasant sweetness prevails. Slight zest, lightly toasted cereal. Super drinkable for this abv.

Lagunitas The Waldos’ Special Ale
4/27/17. 12oz bottle from Publix. Light hazed orange pour under a nice khaki head, mild lacing. Nice aroma, dank, fruity, maybe a booze kick. Lightly sweet caramel and sugar flavor, not too bitter, dank hops, a hint of booze. I did not realize I was buying a 12% beer. Oh well!

Lagunitas New DogTown Pale Ale
Clear, golden, medium head. A lot of resin and hops granulate, almost sulphuric notes in aroma. Dry, thus not much body to balance very resin bitter taste.

Lagunitas Doppel Weizen
This a truly nightmarish beer. I’m not even sure what it’s meant to resemble but I get a can of syrupy fruit salad that’s been open for a few days. Oh my word. Fetid pineapple rounds out the long, sweet aftertaste of this mess.

Lagunitas Davey Murray’s Best Scotch Ale
Bottle from Brewtopia. Dark reddish brown with lasting head and lace. Caramel cherry woody earthy aroma with a hint of smoke. Burnt caramel cherry medium-heavy sweetness with medium woody earthy spicy bitterness in long Finnish (spell checker) with a hint of smoke. Medium-full body nice and soft. No cough syrup cloying. Dangerously quaffable for abv. Nice American representation of the style. Excellent.

Lagunitas Davey Murray’s Best Scotch Ale
4/26/17. 12oz bottle from Five Points. Amber brown pour with nice ruby edges under a nice khaki head, good lacing. I’m about halfway through my first glass/bottle and I have to say, this beer is quite good. Smooth aroma of sweet fruits, biscuits, and caramel. Great flavor, sweet with caramel, but not too much, some biscuit, toast, a hint of hoppiness and bitterness, but not too much. Balanced, and the ABV is hidden well. Delish!

Lagunitas Born Again Yesterday
Shared 12 oz. bottle poured to snifters showing a cloudy orange color, with a presentable layer of soft white foam, and spots & strands of lacing. The nose was dank, tropical notes as passion fruit & guava, some ripeness, and hints of grass & greenery. Medium bodied, with okay carbonation, the taste was similar, offering complementary booze, and bitterness that retained some of the dank & resinous nature, along with a dose of earthiness. Decent, hoppy Pale. Who would have thought otherwise?

Bottle. BB 24.10.2017. First pour rather clear bright orange, second pour contains huge chunks of floaties. Head creamy white, rather big, nice lace. Lovely tropical fruit aroma, sweet, stone fruits and pineapple. Tastes sweet and bitter, very fresh and tropical, ripe, kinda like apricot, mango and pineapple, not very citric, more like resiny. Fine but crisp carbonation, oily texture, somewhat dryish finish. Very nice.

Lagunitas The Waldos’ Special Ale
Pours clear and golden with a fast-fading white head. Dormant appearance. Aroma is da dank - resinous hops with a hint of citrus. Taste is, well, huge. Sweet caramel malts upfront into hop resin and then a switch is flipped and you've got a lemon-to-grapefruit bitterness explosion. Moderately boozy and despite the hopped finish, sweet and sticky overall. A bit uneven but a memorable brew. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Lagunitas The Waldos’ Special Ale
Too sweet. Too friggin’ sweet. I complained earlier about Session IPAs being too malt-free to develop complexity, but holy hell am I growing a new respect for their restraint. Waldo may be hopped all to hell and back, but the malt-forward cloying corn-laced booze sweetness overpowers everything with this beer. Ever wonder what a pale barleywine might taste like? Here’s your answer, and it’s not good. Big grapefruit-lemon hops slathered on toast covered in Karo syrup. Boozy, burny finish. 11.9% shouldn’t be too big, but I can’t drink this thing. Aaargh.

Pours hazy dark straw into a shaker. Bright white head with medium retention recedes leaving spot lacing. Mango and passionfruit aromas. Dry with sweet yeast, mango, pineapple and passionfruit upfront turning to gritty pith in the lasting finish.

$5.79 Bomber, Wine Warehouse. Pours slightly hazy golden-amber with a small off-white head. Nice citrus hop aroma: grapefruit, lemon zest, pineapple. Almost-IPA-like. Flavors is also almost-IPA-like, but changes about midway through. Grapefruit peel and pulp, pineapple, minor spice, a little grass, perhaps some yeast. Good.

12 oz single bottle shared. Clear golden appearance with a white head. Aroma of dank/resinous hops, toasted malt, light herbal/floral notes and a hint of garlic. Similar flavor, adding moderate bitterness and a mild malt sweetness. Medium to full body with a smooth feel and a balanced finish. Pretty clean and easy to drink for ~12%.

Pint in the cuckfield Wanstead. They also have it cans. Never heard of it. Not near the standard of the IPA but a crisp, summery alternative. Solid if too fizzy.

Lagunitas CitruSinensis Pale Ale
Bottle, 7.7% ABV. Clear gold with a white head. Aroma of sweet hay, lots of oranges. It’s more - indeed too - obvious that it’s actual oranges when you take a swig. Moderately sweet, medium bodied, bitterness on the low side of medium. The interplay between the hops and blood oranges is really very nice, particularly at the finish. It’s just so careless with the alcohol - costs it .2 or .3 for me.

Lagunitas Aunt Sally
Lagunitas has really impressed me with most of their IPAs. But the when I poured the Aunt Sally into the glass, I smelled a rancid tartness reminiscent of granny smith apples. I did a double-take, reconsidered, and tried the beer. Sour is the first thing you taste, then a slight sweet sensation. If this were a sour gummy worm cocktail, I could drink it, but an ale, no thank you.

Lagunitas Davey Murray’s Best Scotch Ale
Blind tasted with 1 other scotch ale which was Dark Horse Bourbon Barrel Scotty Karate Scotch Ale. All 3 raters ranked the beers 1, 2.

355ml bottle. Amber pour. Sweet hoppy aroma. This is overly-hopped for a scotch ale. Typical Lauguinats, they are now incapable of making a unique beer.

Post tasting thoughts:
Typical lagunitas, all of their beers use the same ingredients. It might save them a lot on cost but they are the least innovative brand on the market right now.

Lagunitas A Little Sumpin’ Sumpin’ Ale
12 oz bottle pours an almost clear golden/orange color decent white head that lingers and leaves lacing. Aroma has all the usual suspects of an IPA (Citrus and tropical fruits and pine resin, some caramel malts) plus enough Wheat for Woody Allen. Taste is initially sweet and fruity, but the long finish is dry and bitter. Body is medium with average carbonation and a sticky mouthfeel This one is a tad stronger than most IPAs, and has the wheat flavor to set it apart. It is another winner from Lagunitas, but ommipresent around Chicago, so that I now take if for granted. If an old friend from New England brought me the same beer to me in a bottle that said Trillium or Hill Farmstead I would have thanked him profusely.

Bottle: Slightly hazy, golden-yellow with a tall beige head. Tropical.....pineapple, tangerine, banana aroma. Very citrusy, almost like a really fruity IPA scent. Sweet, not-quite-ripe banana, mixed fruit pulp flavour. Chewy body....barely a hint of the alcohol. Very tasty and interesting.

Lagunitas The Waldos’ Special Ale
Pour is a hazy golden with a small white head. Aroma is a real nice mix of pine and mango/peach hops. Flavor is again a nice citrus fruit hop with a huge bitterness. Finish is super hop resin with a bit of sweetness and almost no noticable alcohol. A really nice double IPA with loads of hop flavor without a huge sweet malt getting in the way of the hops. The only thing that would make this better is if this were more 8% rather than 11% even though the alcohol is not a problem as it is.

Lagunitas Davey Murray’s Best Scotch Ale
12 ounce bottle - $2.79 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia. Appearance: Pours a clear, deep garnet-hued body with an inch of loose, ivory-toned froth. A few small blobs of lacing on the way down. Smell: Darkened toast and coarsely chopped nuts with some grain, just a bit of dry caramel and a cool waft of smoke. Subtler hop aspects of florals and citrus which, when adhering to the up-nosed alcohol, give it a hint of a citrus liqeuer. Taste: Deeply toasted with almost an edge of roast about it. Lightly smokey, peaty accent, touches of caramel (though not particularly sweet, really) and somewhat nutty throughout. Lightly floral, lightly citrusy (and a mite bit oily) hops await underneath that maltiness and yield a bit of bitterness. Near dry, smooth finish with some belly warming alcohol tones. Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium-soft carbonation. Overall: It’s fine. Not your typical Lagunitas beer, though it’s also not your typical Scotch Ale.

Riktigt trevlig!
