Wolverine State Barista Coffee Lager
12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 5/22/2017. Pours crystal clear deep reddish brown color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big nutty dark roasted coffee, chocolate, cocoa, brown sugar, toasted brown bread, light herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of coffee, roast/bready malt, and light earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big nutty dark roasted coffee, chocolate, cocoa, brown sugar, toasted brown bread, light herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness. Light herbal hop and roasted coffee bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of nutty dark roasted coffee, chocolate, cocoa, brown sugar, toasted brown bread, light herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of coffee, roast/bready malt, and light earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Minimal dryness from hop/roast bitterness. Very clean on lager flavors, with zero yeast notes present. Light-medium carbonation and medium body; with a very smooth, fairly creamy/silky, and slightly chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 6.5%. Overall this is a great coffee lager! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of coffee, roast/bready malt, and light earthy hop flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the mildly bitter finish. Awesome vibrant coffee complexity, with great malt balance. Feels kind of midway between a Vienna Lager and Schwarzbier on style. A very enjoyable offering.

Wolverine State Barista Coffee Lager
Bottle from Merchants. Aroma is coffee, more like fresh beans than brewed, some earthy bitterness, but very roasty. Appearance is amber brown, light tan head. Taste is coffee. Taking a bite out of fresh coffee beans. Light chocolate, light earthy bitterness, but just in your face coffee, excellent. Mouthfeel is light to medium body, light carbonation, coffee bean aftertaste. Overall, I like this a whole lot.

Bottle served in a glass, this beer was a clear light to less than medium gold in the glass with some faint orange hue, the pour presented a white cover that was almost a finger thick, it left nice spots and small fingers of lacing on the side of the glass, the nose had aromas of chardonnay wine (light fruit), notes of pear and peach skin, light malt, white wine, faint grass hops that had a bit of a earth note, a little vanilla in the background, and light fruit sweetness, the flavors were pear fruit and wine, light malt, a little hops and wood (barrel aging), very faint vanilla, and a little sweetness, the finish had a less than medium hop bitterness and there was a dryness left on the mouth, the mouth feel was light, it was creamy and had soft to average carbonation, there was a nice crispness to this drink, I thought the lager, chardonnay barrel and pear mixed pretty well, usually, I find lager and fruit sort of off, too sweet and do not like it, this drink was a little interesting and good, the carbonation was softer than your typical lager probably because of the aging in the chardonnay barrels, I found the chardonnay to be out front just a bit leaving the lager and pear still noticeable, I thought this was a nice drink.

From notes. The appearance was a deep brown color with a tan foamy two finger head that slid off at a mild pace. Light stringy lace. The aroma had some dark bread, dark fruits, some roasted nuts, earthy and grassy hops, sweet oats, and a light toffee at the end. The flavor blended fairly well between all of the previously mentioned aromas sweetly. Aftertaste was bready sweet along with the dark fruits. Finish was smooth and sweet. The palate was between light and medium bodied. Somewhat sessionable as the ABV wasnít quite noticeable to the build of the beer. Only after consumption I saw the ABV and thought to myself, was it really 9.5%? Overall, I liked this one a lot for me but have to think thatís one smooth doppelbock along with the crushable aspect going on.

Poured into a lager glass, the appearance was a deep copper color with a fingerís worth of white foamy head that fell off at a mild pace. Some stringy lace. The aroma had some caramel malts, nuts, dark fruits, dark bread, light cocoa powder with some grassy and earthy hops. The flavor matched the aroma fairly nice blending the sweet to the hops nicely. Light aftertaste of the dark bread and malts. Same in the finish. The feel was roughly medium bodied with a decent sessionability about it. Good carbonation. ABV felt appropriate. Overall, pretty nice bock that Iíd have again.

Reviewed from notes. The appearance was a somewhat dark amber color with a small off white foamy head. Mild dissipation and left some messy lace. The aroma had some grainy sweetness, light toffee. Some grassy semi-bitter hops, but fairly delicate with some citrusy effects. The flavor had a sturdy bitterness coming about somewhat pulling down that grainy sweetness. Mild aftertaste of the same with a semi-sticky sweet finish. The feel was about medium bodied, perhaps just a touch under with a decent sessionability about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt fine. Overall, India pale lager? I guess. Would I have this again? Maybe when Iím back in Michigan. But nothing to seek and destroy on a daily basis.

Wolverine State Big House Brown
Reviewed from notes. The appearance was a semi-dark copper color with a film of a little white foamy head. No lace. The aroma had some toast, toffee/caramel malts, some chestnuts and apples. The flavor was towards the sweet side with a developing little bit of dark fruit playing with the apple sweetness. Decently blended aftertaste rolling into the finish. The feel was just a tad under than medium bodied with a decent sessionability about it. Good carbonation and the ABV felt appropriate. Overall, Iíd have this again during football season if I lived in Michigan. I didnít mind this beer one bit.

Wolverine State Wolverine Massacre Imperial Dark Lager
12 oz bottle. Quiet pour with minimal carbonation and a bourbon, dark fruit, and molasses aroma. The beer has an opaque dark colour with a thin tan head and fair lace. It has a bourbon start with hints of dark fruit expanding into the middle. The finish is long with sweet notes of molasses, only a faint hint of hops, and an extended warm alcohol glow at the end. Lager mouthfeel.

Aromas bread and sour fruit. A little caramel. Color is a fairly dark amber with a small off-white head. Taste is just slightly sour; sweetness is medium despite the candi sugar used in the brewing; bitterness is light to medium. Carbonation is medium to just a touch lively, which works well with this beer. Finish is medium length with some sour fruit and candi sugar. Not bad; itís a bit different than most beers; I find the little bit of sourness interesting. While not especially complex it is a bit intriguing.

Slightly hazy amber coloured body with a copper glow and a thinnish, two centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of light grass, malt, earth and a good deal of light grassy and citrus hops alongside some toffee and caramelisd sugars. Medium-bodied; Assertive hop flavours up front of grass, pine and herbs, all with a nice malt backbone with some noticeable lager yeast and a dry finish. Aftertaste shows a bit of earth, some strong floral elements, toffee, sugars and quite a bit of residual hoppiness and bitter flavours. Overall, a nice Lager with a ton of hoppiness and a good robust beer that would be good for any style, but also full of flavour. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Merchantís in Dearborn, Michigan on 24-July-2015 for US$2,19 sampled at home in Washington on 25-January-2017.

Poured into a pilsener glass, the appearance was a black color with a two finger off white foamy head. Mild messy semi-foamy lace. The aroma had a hefty amount of thick sweet milk chocolate, caramel malts and some red cherries. Light roast underneath. The flavor leans to the sweet side with the chocolate and cherries. Roast seemed barely there. Rich chocolatey sweet aftertaste and in the finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a smooth sessionably texture flowing over my tongue. Moderate carbonation. Overall, not a schwarzbier, but perhaps a porter with a lager yeast? Yes, Iíll leave that question mark there, just a tad confused though a very good beer just as it is.

Aromas heavy on the malt - caramel, grain, cereal and toffee. Hops are heavy though hard to pin down - a bit of orange flavor! Color is a fairly dark amber, though a bit more on the reddish side; clear - no particulates. The head is small and off-white. Taste is moderately sweet and moderate to heavily bitter. Nice balance. Some power (and alcohol). Body is medium; carbonation average; finish is average. Overall one of the best Wolverine beers I have had - I really like the nice hops/malt balance.

Pour from a 12oz bottle. Clear amber brew with tan head that settles quickly. Good lacing. Aroma of of earthy resin leavened with lighter citrus, tart fruit and spice. Agile with some earthy cheesy notes. Taste starts with a clearly lager malt base with emerging resin and pine. Lighter hops notes emerge at the end to finish with a crisp but hoppy finish. Typically I am not a fan of IPLís but this one stands out.

Wolverine State Barista Coffee Lager
From notes. I had this one on draft at the brewery on March 18 after a hockey game. The pour is a nice darker brown color that has a thin light tan head that lingers a bit, offering a little lac3e. The aroma is pretty good. It does smell like coffee, as one could hope. There is a hint of chocolate in this one with a light bitterness from the roasted malts. The flavor is definitely heavy in the coffee. This one is just as advertised. There is a nice bitterness associated with the coffee, and the rest of the notes from the nose just fall by the way side here. Itís very intensely coffee. The mouth feel is thin and light with a decent carbonation to help it out, but it is almost like a heavy cup of cold coffee. The aftertaste is all bitter roasted coffee with little else helping out. Itís not terrible, but you have to really enjoy coffee for this one.

Wolverine State Faustian Stout Baltic Porter
From notes. I had this one on draft at the brewery on March 18 after a hockey game. The pour is a nice black color, but it looks a little thin, and the white colored head definitely doesnít convey the richness that I want to see. The aroma is actually pretty good. There is a nice dark fruit that resonates throughout with a good thick roasted malt and a nice dose of chocolate. There is a nice woodiness that is also detectable. The flavors are a little better still. The chocolate definitely takes over, with a nice roasted malt and a good strong dark fruit complexity. Itís nice. There is a light caramel malt trying to poke through on the finish as well. The mouth feel is thicker and the carbonation is a little high. This one would benefit greatly from a softer carb. The aftertaste is lingeringly dry with a good chocolate and dark fruit hanging around. This might be the best beer Iíve had by them since Gulo≥.

Wolverine State Volitionist Stout Lager
From notes. I had this one on draft at the brewery on March 18 after a hockey game. The pour is a nice darker black color with a thin eggshell colored head that is a little foamy, but bubbles down to a thin form and nice collar. The aroma is definitely roasty. There is a light chocolate to it, but for the most part, there is just a heavy roast to it, and itís pretty basic. The flavor is definitely roasty. Itís bitter and dry, and the chocolate that was apparent in the nose is long gone. Itís incredibly one-dimensional. The mouth feel is decently thick, with a softer carbonation and a little bit of creaminess trying to help out on the aftertaste. This is just a roast bomb thatís trying to work through other flavors that just done appear. Roasted malts are all thatís happening here. Itís drinkable.
