The Commons Gather Around Beer
On tap at Hops & Pie. Clear, pale golden colored appearance with a fluffy white head. Aroma of toasted grain, cereal and light noble hops. Similar flavor, adding mild malt sweetness, a light herbal/floral bitterness and a touch of citrus zest. Light body with a slight husky/grainy finish. Solid.

7.7% A clear amber-orange with a thick light beige head. The taste is honey and malts with big fruity notes and also light cloves. Estery and aromatic. The beer is medium-light in body and dry. Crisp, fruity and white pepper with honey and light biscuit. As these guys went out of business, try them while you can.

Beautiful. Pours a clear orange gold with a light frothy off white head. The nose is fruity, funky brett, mild malts. Dry and tart with a light and floral bitterness. Funky but not overbearing. A good beer but unmemorable.

The Commons Fleur de Blanc
25.4floz (750ml) bottle, no date found, $10, pint glass. Appears a bright yellow with a few particles, and a small head. The aroma can be described as floral, but it is of the soap detergent variety. Palate is lightish with moderate carbonation. Flowery notes and Belgian yeast notes are the most prominent features. Overall, this is just an okay saison/Belgian golden ale with botanicals.

The Commons Urban Farmhouse Ale
On draft at the brewery! Aroma 8 /10: lots of wild, yeasty aroma Appearance 4 /5: lightly hazy yellow with small and bubbly head Palate 4 /5: Very bubbly and dry, robust and rounded mouthfeel Taste 8 /10: wild yeast and hay with some mild lemongrass and pepper notes. Overall 18 /20: a solid Saison. Perfect balance of carbonation and yeast, has a ton of flavor despite that it only clocks in at 5.3%abv. Final: 4.1

The Commons Buckwheat Grisette
On draft at the brewery! Aroma 8 /10: wheaty, funky, hay Appearance 4 /5: Very pale yellow with little head but lots of bubbles rising to the surface Palate 4 /5: Bubbly and effervescent, though a tad watery Taste 7 /10: wheat and hay are definitely present, while the brett is a lot less pronounced. Finishes a tad metallic? This flavor is hard for me to verbalize. Overall 16 /20: tastes like a cross between a Saison a Hefeweizen to me. The brett funk is not as prominent and this is definitely a table beer, but t it has solid complexity despite this. Final: 3.9

Hazy brown, beige foam there. Nose is a bit stuffy with malt graininess, saison yeast spice. Taste has fruits, cocoa cherries and again this saison yeast. Fruity saison with some dark malts? Nice and interesting although not very complex and perhaps not enough funk for me.

Gorgeous pour, nice light sweet body fruity kind of berry, but with nice raisins, vanilla, and hints of coconut. Very smooth and complex, the sour is wonderful note throughout, just puckering.

The Commons Urban Farmhouse Ale
Bottle shared in MV with the fam. Pours mostly clear yellow-gold, effervescent, with a creamy, white head. The nose has some doughy wheat bread, sourdough, lemon meringue. Light-medium sweet flavour, with low bitterness, a little straw, very slight acidity, mellow alcohol warmth. Light to medium bodied with lively carbonation. Finishes with a bit of warmth, some pear, white grape, melon, more sourdough. Pretty clean and drinkable.

The Commons Myrtle - Citrus
Hazy deep golden with a lasting foamy white head. Big earthy tart nose with a bright yet earthy and balancing grapefruit and tropical golden fruit. Delightful flavor that’s crisp yet only gently sour, light but lovely grapefruit peel and orange peel, a lingering orange citrus fruity tone and a lingering funky tart finish with little notes of tropic golden fruit. Lovely. Amazingly charming, yet so simplistic.

The Commons Microbiere
On tap at the brewery. Pours a fairly clear straw gold with a medium sized white head. Soft grain and a touch of musk on the nose, a hint of yeast. Medium bodied, crisp with some light green apple and a bit of grain. Crisp and clean, grain, bright and fruity. Drinks close to double the ABV in terms of flavor, so there’s a lot packed into the little sub 3% beer.

The Commons Fleur de Blanc
On tap at the brewery. Pours a relatively hazed gold with a thin white head. Floral and musky with a heavy wheat note, musk and a bit of fruit. Musk into the finish, yeast takes a clear role here, fuzzy and estery.

The Commons / Occidental Gose
On tap at the brewery. Pours a clear gold with a medium sized white head. Soft lemon on the nose, a bit of musk and fruit. Medium bodied, soft and grainy with some nice lactic tones, a good bit of salinity. Nice saline component here, where a lot shy away from it and seem to put the salt as a necessity, this shows it as a primary component. Salty with tart lemon and bright citrus. Tangy and nice.

The Commons Pineapple Saison
On tap at the brewery. Pours a hazed straw gold with a medium sized white head. Burnt pineapple and tires, earthy and dirty. Something going on here, and so far, it’s not something I like. Citrus and some garbage tones. Green and musky. Medium bodied, sweet. Pineapple, then more unpleasantness. Long messy wheat. Not sure what happened here, but I went in expecting to love this, and left very much disappointed.

Pale gold with a touch of haze. Earthy hop nose with a touch of weed. Light body. Pale malts are crackery and a bit too thin. The hops have a lot of bitterness but aside from a light weediness don’t stand bright.

Deep red, not much head. Nose is black currant, mostly. Tart, bit thin, lots of currant, but if you’re looking for a payoff more than that you’ll be disappointed.
