The Commons Viognier Grisette
Draft at Beer Junction. Pours a clear medium gold with a thin whitish head that falls to film very quickly. Bright tangy lemony nose, soft herbs showing, grassy and tangy. Creamy medium body with moderate carb. Lemony, grassy, tangy, lightly herbal mid palate over a soft bed of lightly sweetened cereal. Very refreshing and delicious and easy to drink. If they could keep the carb livelier in the glass, this would be a world-beater.

The Commons Little Brother - Bourbon Barrel
2013 vintage. Pours a moderately dark brown with garnet highlights and a medium beige head that leaves very nice lacing. Nose is pretty coconut-forward with some strong alcohol but nothing bad. Bourbon, check. Light oxidation. Taste is more coconut, light dark fruits, toffee. Moderately sweet and pretty balanced. I feared it was going to be too hot but it’s not. Maybe 4 years was enough for it to mellow down? Body is medium and carbonation pretty high (this was almost a slow gusher so that’s not totally unexpected). A pretty nice bourbon barrel aged quadrupel. A bit of the base beer is lost but other than the overcarbonation it didn’t suffer too much from the extended aging. I would certainly get it again if it was available in 12oz bottles...

The Commons Urban Farmhouse Ale
Pours clear straw, finely bubbled white head. Nose is yeast, banana, hay, floral. Taste is quite dry, bread, more banana ester, touch of honey. A classic saison, lightly hopped and spiced, very simple but nice. Seltzer like carbonation with a mineral bite, which I dig but a bit unusual. Straightforward and good.

The Commons Plum Bretta
Bottle (330 ml) at home. From Kevin pr Thomas(?) I think, thanks! Slightly hazy orangey golden with a medium white head, moderate retention, leaving little lacing. Aroma is soft and features a nice mix of plums, pinot noir winey and perfumey notes, herbal brettanomyces and mild spiciness. Taste is also soft with no acidity at all, nice brett features, very mild plum presence, winey/perfumey pinot noir notes and floral presence. Light body. Moderate carbonation. Fluffy and ample mouthfeel. Herbal brettanomyces and gentle fruitiness finish. This is very soft but not unidimensional and it has a great drinkability. Very good and quite un-american!

The Commons Pumpernickel Rye Saison
Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver
Cloudy dark amber color, with red hue, small compact head. The mix of rye and yeast produces some anise aroma. The flavor has some caramel, some liquorice, it’s earthy, and has some anise. I don’t know where they get the pumpernickel, not from Germany for sure, and I don’t know why anybody would fancy this.

The Commons Microbiere
Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver
Hazy pale blond color. It has a very light aroma of straws, almost no malt flavor, almost no yeast character; it’s dry and rather weak. No flaws.
I have no words to describe it, as there is nothing to describe.
I like some good low alcohol beer when properly done; this one is just expensive water.
