Draft at taproom. Gorgeous por, thick, creamy head. Welcoming aroma, roast grains and chocolate. Taste is a bit more robust, smooth, and alcohol heat creeps in late. Really well done.

Bomber from Whole Foods. Pours a slightly hazy yellow color with a large white head. A soft perfume nose. The flavor is lemons, zesty, a bit of biscuit, bready. A pretty simple clean IPA, zesty, a bit of ginger perhaps. Quite nice.

Bottle at a tasting. Lots of bitterness, but the hops character lost its edge to caramelly candyish sweetish backbone. What hops remains is citrusy, resiny. Good, but not great.

Burnside COAX No 3 - Meridian and Ekuanot
Tasting at the 4th most powerful rater of 2016 place
Hazy golden color. The malt profile is a bit biscuity, the hop is definitively resiny, but there is too much vegetable in the aroma and flavor: cabbage, asparagus.
I have mixed feeling about this one; I can’t say I really like this.

Burnside COAX No 3 - Meridian and Ekuanot
22 oz. bottle, pours a hazy amber orange with a small white head. Aroma brings out earthy, spicy hops, a little pine and some toasted biscuity malt. Flavour brings out an earthy and spicy hop varietal, followed by booze and a little citrus. Earthy and spicy on the finish. Not my type of IIPA, but it’s alright.

Dull amber, not much head. Smells fairly bright, with florals, citrus. Has a lot of floral notes, bright orange, and dried flowers. The malts are fairly strong, but they support these hops well with a touch of caramel. A bit chewy, but otherwise a pretty good, older school example.

Bomber, bought in Oregon. Banana aroma with notes of wheat malt, clove and a touch of citrus. Pours clear golden colored with a thin white head that has poor retention and excellent lacing. Starts with big wheat malt flavor with banana sweetness. Finishes smooth and dry with clove and a bit of citrus flavor. Simple hefe, but quite nice.

Burnside Lime Kolsch
Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver
Hazy blond color. On the sweet side for a Kölsch, or maybe it’s the lack of bitterness; could be any anonymous Lager; luckily the lime is just a hint in the aroma and flavor, not too evident.
Beer for the uneducated drinker, very boring, but clean.

On tap at St. Augustine’s, pours a clear pale copper blonde with a small white head. Aroma brings out light notes of lime and subdued biscuity malt. Flavour is dominated by fresh lime, leaving little else available to be discerned. A totally lime-dominated beer. It’s okay.

Another failed new world attempt at a "Farmhouse Ale". Some funkiness to it, but the hops, malt and yeast all seem a bit strange and there is nothing authentic or even that recommendable to it.

Tap at the HAF A: Dark caramel in color with a cappuccino head, and lacing. N: Toffee, grapefruit, pineapple, cherry, toasted biscuit, maltiness, pepperiness, branches, some coconut and caramel underneath. T: Very bitter but not astringent. Balancing sweetness. M: Medium body, light alcohol, crisp carbonation. O: Quite nice. Similar to Massive; I feel like Roots Epic Ale had a say in this one, too.

Burnside Sweet Heat
(Burnside Sweet Heat) Bottle 650ml at home, served into a shaker, ABV 4.9% Bright golden yellow colour on the body, tall and thick white head on top, great retention. Aroma has lots and lots of chili peppers, lemon leaves underneath and subtle fruity notes. Taste is mainly peppers, not much of a burn thoough, just a tickle at th back of the throat for the most part. Again subtle fruity notes, I couldn’t clearly say it was apricot, faint wheat on the aftertaste. Medium body with good carbonation. Quite good.

Cask days 2016. Hazy, slightly purple is red pour, with a lightly pink head. Aroma is sweet, random berries and not much else. Sweetness drops off at the end, light bitterness, syrup, and berries. Pretty one dimensional, and kinda boring. A boring style of beer with a whack of sugar added with some berry flavour.

Burnside Project Ale
Bottle:   Dirty caramel, sudsy head and lacing.   Somewhat of a muted earthy and husky aroma.   Smells a little like wet hops, slightly dank, earthy.   A bit grainy, or should I say more grainy on the tongue than I would have wanted.   Otherwise mild to moderate citrus peel and pith background.   A bit astringent too.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Soily finish, with some pith and peel.   Not too much of a fan of this one.   Reminds me of a local brew that has mushrooms and all sorts of stuff in it.

Bomber, brought back from Portland. Apricot aroma with chili pepper and wheat malt notes. Pours cloudy, pale golden colored with half a finger of white head that has good retention and excellent lacing. Starts with sweet apricot and wheat malt flavors. Finishes smooth with the sweet apricot flavors continuing before the heat of the peppers kicks in near the end and asserts its flavor and lingers in the back of the throat nicely. Well balanced chili ale that lives up to its name.

Extremely pale lager with nearly no head. Spritzy citrus and cereal grains in the aroma. Medium thin body. Flavor follows the aroma with the toasted cereal grains really the main player here. Not a lot else other than maybe a hint of citrus. Pretty boring.

Burnside COAX No 1 - Polish Marynka & Mosaic
This is a new series of IPAs for Burnside it seems. I haven’t seen 02 around. Pours a clear orange hue with a medium white head. A big tropical fruity nose. Pineapple, a big soft tropical hop base that is really clean and tasty, biscuit, there is bitterness here and I enjoy that. Drinks bigger than 6.5%, though I’d love to see a 10% version. Haha. Great beer.

Burnside Oatmeal Pale Ale
Poured from a bomber. Hazy orange, thin creamy head that fades with some lacing. Aroma subtle biscuit like malt, with a floral/black tea hop aroma. Bready malt flavor some light caramel and some citrus, a slight fruitiness balanced by more of that herbal tea like hop flavor. Mild Astringent finish, creamy full mouthfeel that conflicts a little with the astringency. Overall it’s a decent beer.

Draft @ Brouwcafe de Molen. Pours a slightly hazy orange beer with a big fluffy white head on top. Aroma of herbal hops, slight grassy and weedy. Burnside Elemental Scale Blueberry Mint Saison
Rating #1880 - 2015.09.10 - Bottle from @yegbeergirl - Trying to avoid prejudice with two flavours I’m typically not keen on. Aroma is fresh spearmint, mild funk. Palate is sweet blueberry jam, an herbal minty cool note, and a sourness that isn’t unwelcome. Not much pepper, a delicate bitterness that is perhaps an afterthought.

Burnside Sweet Heat
Spiced fruit beer from this Portland brewery, from a 65 cl bomber. Irregularly shaped, snow white, lightly lacing, slowly breaking head over a misty yellow blonde beer with warm peachy hue. Aroma of indeed mashed apricots, sweet chili peppers, moldy lemon, soggy white bread, soap, ginger, cider, grape peel. Vividly fruity onset with actual fruit tartness but more in a green plum- or berry-like way than apricots - at least at first, because in the middle a certain apricot sweetness does show up, over a soft soapy wheat and bready backbone; the fruity sourness continues over this and then is met by a strong chili heat which lasts quite long but actually fits in surprisingly well; soapy wheat and sourish fruit flavors linger after swallowing. A daring combination of flavors and you’ll have to like ’piquanterie’ in your beer in order to appreciate this, but I certainly do and for me this combination works fine.

Overall, not quite fitting the style, but still a refreshing and enjoyable brew.
