Crooked Stave Nightmare on Brett (Raspberry)
Pours almost a pitch black if it weren’t for the red , small pinkish head of foam. Minimal lacing. Smells of tart raspberries, mild funk, wood, has some acetic aromas. Smacked in my face with the tart raspberries, a bit of funk and wood, much sourness in an acetic kind of way. This is like I asked Crooked Stave to brew a beer with exactly the proper mix of ingredients that I wanted them to and they did it. Beer of 2017 for me? Perhaps.

Crooked Stave Surette Reserva Blueberry
Pours a dark red, very little foam. I smell funky blueberries, other fruit (?), acidic sourness. Tart blueberries, apricot, mild funk, less acidic than what I got in the smell. Light bodied and enjoyable. I would have preferred at least some berry sweetness but I can’t complain much.

Crooked Stave Nightmare on Brett (Raspberry)

Crooked Stave Nightmare on Brett (Cherry)
(375ml bottle from kihoskh.dk) Pours dark brown to black with an average pale tan head that leaves a thick ring and lace. Aroma of mixed sweet/tart cherry pie, fruit-infused balsamic vinegar, lactic lemon, dark malt, toast, light chocolate powder, wood, whiskey, liqueur candies. Flavour is quite sour, lactic lemon domination with a touch of acetic acid too, very subtle cherry, sight malt, sweetness, wood, light spirit, finish has some slight drying wood, toasted bitterness, but bracing lactic notes persist long into the aftertaste. Not very complex taste-wise. Medium bodied, slightly above average carbonation, no alcohol. Eh, I expected a lot better, and the nose at least hinted at that. In the end, the one dimensionality of it meant it was just sour and not so pleasant.

Crooked Stave St. Bretta (Fall)
Tap at Gambrinus. Assuming it’s this version based on the color. Hazy straw gold with a pillowy white foam that lingers throughout. Light farmhouse, horseblanket nose with some lemon and sudachi notes. Great brett character in the nose and a light earthy brett character on the palate. Grainy texture, green pineapple and more lemon...some wheat in there as well. Nicely tart and refreshing, grainy finish.

Pours a hazy orange closer to yellow orange. Close to 2 fingers of foam. Wait, looking at my glass, that’s lacing for aboot half. Saison notes of cloves, pepper and coriander. Then, it gets all hoppy and funky with a suggestion of tartness. Taste =nose. Plus it’s a dry son of a gun. I gots the cotton mouth. Joking. Heavy side of light bodied. Good job for a beer that’s the same abv as your average light/lite beer. Very very nice.

Pours a hazy orange with sufficient foam to please my eye buds. Good lacing. I smell. I mean I smell tart apricot and lemon with carbonic acid tartness. Funky aromas follow. Apricot and lemon tartness, vinegar like sour notes and mild horseblanket. I think I taste some coriander but I’m not sure. Medium body with lightish carbonation. Another treat from Crooked Stave.
