Mother's MILF - Brandy Barrel
Got in a BIF from jdell15. 22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 3/9/2016. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a 1-2 finger dense tan head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a light amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas if big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, toffee, fudge, marshmallow, molasses, brandy, raisin, plum, sherry, red grape, citrus zest, toasted oak, and dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of coconut, smoke, coffee, leather, tobacco, and roast/toast/oaky earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt, cocoa, raisin, and brandy barrel notes; with great strength. Taste of huge milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, toffee, fudge, marshmallow, molasses, brandy, raisin, plum, sherry, red grape, citrus zest, toasted oak, and dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of coconut, smoke, coffee, leather, tobacco, and roast/toast/oaky earthiness. Light roast bitterness and brandy/oak spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, toffee, fudge, marshmallow, molasses, brandy, dark fruit, sherry, citrus zest, toasted oak, dark/brown bread, light coconut/smoke, leather, tobacco, and roast/toast/oaky earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, cocoa, raisin, and brandy barrel flavors; with a great roasted bitter/sweet and brandy/oak spiciness balance; with zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Slightly increasing dryness from roast bitterness and brandy/oak spiciness. Light-medium carbonation and fairly full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/velvety, and slightly slick/chalky/tannic mouthfeel that is fantastic. Alcohol is very well hidden; a very mild increasing warmth of 11%, with zero barrel booziness lingering after the finish. Overall this is a fantastic barrel aged imperial stout! All around outstanding complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, cocoa, raisin, and brandy barrel flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the big ABV. Super rich and complex, with perfect balance of the Brandy barrels. Never overwhelming on fruitiness, even with the added raisins in the base beer. A highly enjoyable offering.

Mother’s Rye Barrel Manhattan Imperial Three Blind Mice
Got in a BIF from jdell15. 22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 6/29/2017. Pours moderately hazy/cloudy dark brown color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy cream colored head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, toffee, rye whiskey, toasted oak, brown bread, raisin, fig, and cherry; with lighter notes of coconut, tobacco, ginger, cinnamon, clove, juniper, spruce, and oak/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt, rye whiskey/wine barrels, and light fruit/spice flavors; with great strength. Taste of big milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, toffee, rye whiskey, toasted oak, and brown bread; with lighter notes of coconut, raisin, fig, cherry, tobacco, ginger, cinnamon, clove, juniper, spruce, and oak/toasted earthiness. Very mild herbal/spice bitterness and rye/oak spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, toffee, rye whiskey, toasted oak, brown bread, coconut, light dark fruit/spice, and oak/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, rye whiskey/wine barrels, and light fruit/spice flavors; with a nice malt and rye/oak spiciness balance; with zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Slight dryness from rye/oak spiciness. Light carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky, and slightly sticky/chalky/tannic mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol with zero barrel booziness for 10.5%. Overall this is an excellent barrel aged imperial brown ale. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, rye whiskey/wine barrels, and light fruit/spice flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the big ABV. I was expecting more spice presence with all the vermouth/bitters supposedly added to this beer. There isn't a ton of it. The rye barrel has great balanced presence and integration though; which really made this one delicious. I thought Brooklyn's Improved Old Fashioned was a better attempt at an imperial cocktail strong ale, but this was still really enjoyable and well made.

Pours an orange amber color. One finger or so white head. Okay retention, good lacing. Good carbonation. Cloudy.

So much going on in the aroma. Not a lot in the malt department. Lots of grassy, weedy hops. Grapefruit, orange, orange peel. Touch of pineapple. One of the hoppiest IPAs I've had in a long while!

Taste follows the nose. Very hoppy, bitter. Very grassy, very herbal. Less citrus than what is in the aroma. Orange, orange peel. Touch of pineapple, touch of melon. Resin.

Mouthfeel is medium full bodied. Bitter. Rather rough around the edges. Not clean. There's so much going on, it sort of hurts the drinkability.

Overall, it's pretty good. There's so much going on. Perhaps it was over thought. If is interesting. It is worth a shot. I'd recommend it, but I'm undecided if I would buy it again.

12oz bottle (and great 6 pack holder) from ck1, thanks! No bottle date. Golden orange pour, almost no head despite constant fine carbonation. Aroma has pine, herbs, some stone and citrus fruits with pale malts. Taste is of tangy pine, herbs, light sweet malts, some tangerine, and some stone fruits. Medium bodied with a light alcohol presence, the blend is ok, no better. Finishes tangy herbal fruity. not that smooth, with only that 'ok' blend equals a disappointment. 13.2

12oz bottle. I like the concept, and I like the final product. Unfiltered amber-brown body. Thin beige head. Medium bodied. Very drinkable, but a respectable depth and balance. Has a mild soapy hop bite, but the doughy malts are quite nice, and don't come off so one dimensional. Good stuff.

This was a very decent IPA. Golden and clear with a thick white head. Piney aroma, a little citrus, very well balanced. Andy was a fan as well, and considering his taste for West Coast IPAs, that’s praise indeed.

Mother's Lil' Helper
Pours a cloudy copper color. Chunkies floating around in there. Poured with barely any head. What it did have was late forming. No lacing, no retention.

Aroma is pine, citrus and honey. Smells heavy, sort of like scotch ale.

Taste is sweet, very sweet. Pine, citrus lemon peel. Malty. Touch of honey. Brown sugar.

Mouthfeel is full bodied. I don't taste the alcohol, but I feel it! I guess I'd call it chewy, and smooth.

Overall, this is weird. It's somewhere between barleywine and scotch ale. Seems like ABV is understated. It's okay I guess. I'm intrigued, I'd buy it again, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Bottle in MV. Pours unclear burnished orange with a frothy, off-white head. The aroma holds ripened citrus fruits, lightly toasted crackers, some toffee. Medium sweet flavour with lots of jammy citrus, some marmalade, rich bready malts, more toffee, some brown sugar, mild bitter and oily pine. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Finishes with light resinous pine, a little boozy warmth, toasted crackers. Perhaps a little aged? This one, as it is, leans towards barley wine territory. But it drinks pretty good.

Bottle pour into shaker pint glass. Appearance was hazy with fine particulates, golden-orange color, mild sparkle, good white head, no lacing. Aroma was resinous, grapefruit, citrus. Taste as aroma. Palate was light-to-medium bodied with thick, creamy texture, soft-to-average carbonation and mostly bitter finish. Overall, toward the bitter side but not unpleasantly so. If a midwest IPA is supposed to be half-way between a bitter West Coast IPA and a fruity, flavorful East Coast IPA, then it hits the mark.

Bottle at my USA Going Away Party. Thanks Greg! This is just about as decadent as it gets -- it’s sweet and chocolatey to the point of tasting like hot chocolate (or chocolate milk). Strong wood and booze aroma, too, from the barrel aging. It’s a celebration of decadence, and I enjoyed every sip.

After sampling at Boulevardia had to get my hands on this. Poured from a 4pk of pint size cans. Pale, hazy golden color. Taste is spicy and zesty with a little bite. More of a green vegetable flavor than fruit but maybe a hint of lemon peel in there. Hence the cucumber. A tad bit grassy. Perfect refreshment for the heat of a KC summer.
