Indie Alehouse X Bar Hop Bogus Journey
August 17, 2014 - Indie Hop Boat Cruise (Empire Sandy) - draught, more or less. Jeez - 3 years later and nobody has rated this? Okay, one for me! Deep amber with not much head. Spicy aroma - mostly blueberry and sadly a little diacetyl. Taste is very nice - tart blueberry, raspberry seeds and lemon. Light body, airy, a bit watery with a quick finish and a gluten/lemon linger.

Indie Alehouse Zombie Apocalypse
Bottle from brewery bottle shop. Very dark with big brown head. Strong aroma of bitter coffee and chocolate chips, some leather and cherry notes. Chocolate and cherries upfront with leather and roasty coffee middle, lingering bitterness as expected with an imperial stout.

Indie Alehouse Zombie Apocalypse (Cocoa Nibs and Coconut)
500ml bottle @ the office. Pours a dark and cloudy brown colour with a tiny beige head. The bottle gushed and then some upon opening, implying an infection. Nose is woody and roasted. Flavour is just a shuddering no... a weird sour, sweet, roasted mess of what I can only assume is result of an infection.

Indie Alehouse Zombie Apocalypse (Cocoa Nibs and Coconut)
Dark brown, no head. The aroma shows the coconut, and with a fair amount of dark chocolate as well. Fizzy - this foamed up a lot - and that thins out the body a bit, though there are still some sugars going on. The coconut on the palate is just a little bit.

Indie Alehouse Napoleon Complex
June 20, 2017 - at Bar Hop - on draught. Deep burnt copper, mottled tan head. Lush nutty and sweet aroma and flavour - not all that hoppy, but solid; slightly boozy, slick mouthfeel, alcohol and sweet malt on the finish - interesting! Big as hell though ...

Indie Alehouse X Brasseurs de Monde Split Personnalité
June 20, 2017 - at Bar Hop - on draught. Hazy brick red with a small creamy/foamy diminishing beige head. Mild aroma - caramel, watermelon/lime tartness - interest; taste follows, maybe a little bit of coriander and very light floral bitterness. Light body, slick, mild carbonation - quick sweet finish, just a whisper of tart fruit in the linger.

June 20, 2017 - at Bar Hop - on draught. Hazy gold with a decent off-white creamy/foamy head. Catty and "not sweet" aroma - that’s it, and that’s enough (8-). Taste? Yep, right up my street ... slight alcohol, enough vaguely citrus malt to frame the pungent/catty bitterness - oh yeah, more! A little thin-bodied, only modest carbonation, with a medium-long dry tingly bitter finish - not grabby, just good, straightforward and highly drinkable.

Indie Alehouse Interloper
Bottle: Poured a hazy dirty amber color ale with a huge giant foamy head with OK retention and light lacing. Aroma of funky yeast notes with some tart notes also easily noticeable. Taste is mostly dominated by funky Brett notes with some tart notes also discernible with a solid rustic malt notes backbone. Body is full with good carbonation. Nice funky saison with good drinkability.

Indie Alehouse Spadina Monkey (Pineapple)
Last year’s batch. Full mouthfeel. Pineapple there, but not overwhelmingly sour. That’s a good thing. Still 750 ml. is much, and certainly too much for one person.

April 2, 2014 - at the Bar Hop - on draught. Lovely pour - brassy amber-gold with a smallish creamy/foamy off-white head. Floral/citrus peel aroma, with alcohol; reminded me of a boozy ESB. Taste follows - ESB and definitely orange peel - definite alcohol, too much really; Sweet, acidic mouthfeel - light body and carbonation, quick finish with emerging floral intensity and alcohol. Knock 2% or so off this and it would be a great summer drinker.

Indie Alehouse Ned’s Stache
April 2, 2014 - at the Bar Hop - on draught. Deep and dark burnt brick red with a small lasting creamy beige head. Sweet/sour aroma, some alcohol - wine vinegar and pear sweetness - simple, good. Taste follows - sweet/tart, a little sugary - a little crown royal - some mineral too. Slick, average body and carbonation - finishes quickly, leaves a sticky slightly acidic residual taste. Okay.

Indie Alehouse Spadina Monkey (Chardonnay Barrel)
April 2, 2014 - at Bar Hop - on draught. Slightly hazy amber-tinged gold with minimal off-white head. Aroma is white wine, ice wine, light oak and generic tart fruit - good, but hard to decipher. Taste follows - maybe a little vinegar sourness added - quite fruity and more grassy bitterness - but it’s still all about the wine/barrel. Slick, light carbonation, sort of dry tingly finish with a little fruit compote finish - wasn’t quite great, but I enjoyed the hell out of this one.

Indie Alehouse Grendel’s Revenge
March 26, 2014 - at Volo, on draught. Ruby-black with a smallish foamy beige head. Aroma is barrel (sweet and nutty, so yeah, port), bretty funkiness - damn! Taste is quite light, but lots of oak, alcohol - sweet and herbal, I get plum and ... green brett (8-). Light body, mild carbonation - maybe a tad watery - but pretty good stuff. The whole not quick as good as the elements - 14/20 without the drinkability.

December 11, 2013 - at Indie Alehouse - on draught. Hazy amber-gold with a lasting solid fluffy off-white head. Mild aroma - tart berry, spicy/herbal - no alcohol. Taste is what another brewer’s watermelon wheat should be like - mild alcohol, light, hint of acidity - fruity and light gluteny grain; airy, light body, finishes quickly with a little dry tartness in the aftertaste; not the perfect beer for mid-December in Toronto ....

December 6, 2013 - at Bar Hop - on draught. Dark - deep ruby with a smallish but lasting creamy beige head. Mild aroma - some roast and sour berry; Taste - oh yeah - ripe berries and seeds - reminded me of raspberry/blueberry - and yes, a bit nutty too. Average body, light acidity/astringency, airy, quick-finishing - clean and a bit tart, really grew on me.

Indie Alehouse Gold Star Saison
Huge notes of hay, musty funk and tart wheat, with a lighter wheat body and rich body balanced with a decent amount of hops for the style. Easy to drink, might be better for a cool day than a hot day, but its a great farmhouse ale and the brett character looms large.

Its back! have waited a long time for this to come back, bought lots of bottles. Briny tartness and rich pineapple, sweetness. Unlike many sours, it stays drinkable throughout and does not rip into your palate or stomach. Its sours and its easy to drink, and its great.

Indie Alehouse X Bar Hop Curse of the Druids
November 1, 2013 - at Bar Hop - on draught. Hazy orange with minimal bubbly off-white head. Smells like sour mash and pumpkin - lots of malt. Taste is a bit weird - hints at the funk, but is quite grainy with only some pumpkin/spice character - fairly light tasting really. Average body, still and astringent/acidic (mildly so) - starts to finish sour but everything fades quite quickly leaving little impression behind. Needs more sourness. 14-

September 18, 2013 - Golden Tap Awards - draught. Hazy gold with a smallish frothy off-white head. Beautiful aroma - a floral standard spicy Belgian golden ale with apple brandy and must - almost a 9. Taste follows, more bitterness, and alcohol - still spicy but dry; no apple but definite white wine. Slick, light body, finishes dry and slightly acidic cidery - really liked this stuff.

Indie Alehouse X Bar Hop Rabbit of Caerbannog
On tap at The New Bar Hop, Toronto. Pours a fairly big thick frothy off-white head and has a cloudy golden orangey appearance. Lots of thick dirty lacing all around. Great retention. Aromas of wheat, yeast, citrus and floral hops. Flavours are quite wheaty and citrusy. Some notes of yeast, coriander and orange peel as well. Nice tart and smooth mouthfeel. A little bit of a soapy finish. Good stuff!

Indie Alehouse Lemonade Stand
on tap at the brewpub. The lemon stands out big time, and battles the lactic sourness. Huge lemon notes, oils, and zest are way upfront. Mouth feel is nice, carb is good. The finish is very tart, lactic notes show no signs of fading. This is an interesting mix, also pretty refreshing, and clean too, with a dry finish.

Indie Alehouse Grendel’s Revenge
On tap at the brewpub. Brewpub had it listed as a flemish sour red. Pours a dark brown/red with a medium beige head. Aroma is strong, and tart, notes of vinegar, and sour, overly ripe cherries. Mouth feel is thin, carb is also very low. Finish is quite tart, with a strong vinegar character, not totally off putting, but not super inviting either. Not for the craft beer noobs.

Indie Alehouse Wit w/ Pineapple and Chili
On cask at the brewpub. Pours a kinda beige/yellow with a small off white head. The aroma is odd, i’m getting hints of pepper, not exactly hot chile, but a all around pepper aroma, mingling with a subtle fruitiness, and some light lemon zest. The carb and body are standard for something served on cask. The finish has the slightest, faintest touch of heat, with some more soft fruit, and some wheat comes though. All in all, its ok, but a bit messy.

Indie Alehouse Iconoclast Brett IPA
On tap at the brewpub. Pours a hazy yellow, with a large white head. Lots of tropical fruit notes, with some solid bretty twang. Hops are nice and juciy, solid citrus, and hints of pine. Good mouth feel, carb is perfect. Finish is lightly bitter, hints of grapefruit pith but not overly strong. Tropical fruit fades and leaves the door open to a strong brett character.

Indie Alehouse New IPA
On Tap at the brewpub. Pours a hazy orange, with a large white head. Aroma is no surprise all citrus, and freshly picked, very green, hop cones. There is a solid dankness to the hops too, wet, and heavy at times. Nice mouthfeel, and a solid carb, maybe leaning towards soft. The finish is medium to highly bitter, with a solid hoppy finish. A hop bomb for sure. Nice stuff.

Indie Alehouse X Kensington X Barhop Spit & Rub
July 31, 2013 - at Bar Hop First Anniversary event. On draught. Mostly clear amber-gold with a solid off-white creamy head. Tangy aroma - touch of kerosene I often get in smoked beers - simple and a little dull; mild roast, dry and spicy, noticeable alcohol presence - ehh. Taste follows, quite thick and malty, smoke presence for sure, but also a weird cinnamon/mocha thing hovering around - odd. Average body and carbonation, lightly astringent from the smoke and spice, finishes quickly with a tangy spicy finish... ultimately not all that smoky.

Different, in a good way. Bright golden like an egg yolk, strikingly so. The lemon notes hit up front and at the end,. the sourness and subtle sweetness in the middle make this a complex but easy drinking beer. Hope this is around all summer, this will be great at the cottage for people who don’t like hops.

Can see why this beer won gold and best beer in the country at the recent brewing awards. If you like sours and barrel aged beers, this is the one. Not just a one note wonder, has depth of flavour throughout the palate. Tart but deep, hints of sweetness, wood, slight funk and full strong sour cherries balanced by a faint bright acidity and rich mouthfeel. Champion beer for sure.
