Ashton Vanilla Stout
On tap at Brasserie Métropolitain (Ottawa, ON). Pours an opaque, black body with a thick, lasting beige creamy head. Decent malty aroma with some vanilla and roasty notes. Taste is well balanced and carries nutty, vanilla, chocolate, and roasted cereals notes. Ends with a good, somewhat dry bitter/woody finish. Enjoyable.

Ashton Beckwith Bitter
Nitro version at the Loon. Pours a mildly hazy golden-amber colour with a creamy warm cap, everlasting with great lacing. Grainy malts aromas with caramel notes and nice fruitiness. The hops show up a little bit more in the taste with some nice fruity and caramel malts. A pretty good nitro bitter ale.

Ashton Pub Cream Ale
Pint at Quinn’s Ale House. Poured a small size foamy eggshell white head that leaves a bit of lace. Thins layer of head stays all the way through. Aromas of floral hops and light grainy malts. Flavours are mainly citrus hops with hints of lemon and corn. Has a somewhat creamy mouthfeel but is a bit more watery, with a prickly sensation on the palate. Still pretty good for a just above average cream ale.

Ashton Pub Matt’s Twig’n Berries
Had a pint at Quinn’s Ale house before heading out to the Mayfair cinema. Pours very little to no head and has a pale golden appearance. Aromas of wheats, fruits, faint cherries. Flavours of berries for sure as in blueberries, light cherries. Very fruity overall. A little bit of a yeasty hint on the palate. Pretty lively carbonation. Light bodied and good retention. Not bad but not their best.

Ashton Vanilla Stout
Poured a thick creamy average size head and has a very dark brown appearance with red highlights. Thick dirty lacing. Aromas of nuts, roasted malts. Nice variety of malty flavours, nuts, coffee. The vanilla flavour is a bit faint but just enough. Leaves a nice lingering sweet aftertaste. Smooth astringent mouthfeel as well as a warming sensation. Pretty good overall.

Ashton Beckwith Bitter
Draught at The Craft Beer Market, Ottawa. Pours a clear ruby amber, with a smallish off-white head, which lasts well and leaves good lacing. The aroma offers toffee malt, along with floral hops. Floral and sweet spice hops up front lead into strong, smooth toffee malt in the mid-palate. The finish is a little yeasty.

Ashton West Coast IPA
On tap at the Ottawa Craft Beerfest. Pours dark gold with a small white pillow. Aroma is citrus hops and earthy malts. Taste is very malty, almost like an english IPA although there is buttered popcorn like the fermentation wasn’t finished. Totally threw me off.

3.1
Ashton Pub Cream Ale

Sampled on draught at the Metropolitan Brasserie in Ottawa. Very dark brown with a tan head. Rich aroma and a taste of roasted malts, coffee and vanilla. Long and pleasantly bitter finish. Complex, but a little sweet and not particularly full-tasting. A very drinkable and well-balanced beer with lots of character.

Ashton Pub Session Ale
Purchased a growler from the brewpub. Poured with tons of carbonation, minimal head which quickly dissipated. Mild citrus notes for flavour, a bit of hoppiness and malty as well. Aromas of grains and malted barley. No head left whatsoever at about the halfway point. Fizzy mouthfeel and some carbonated sweetness. Doesn’t seem like a lighter than light beer to me. Pretty good.

Ashton Pub Big Fish Black IPA
Sampled at Brother’s Beer Bistro. Pours a dark brown colour with a beige-mocha coloured creamy head, good retention and creamy full lace. Aromas of chocolate malts, berries, roasted malts and coffee. The mouthfeel is nicely dry, but still refreshing. Interesting black IPA that I am surprised coming from Ashton. A step up from their game, as I like this brewery, but usually plays a safe bet. This is wild for them :P

Ashton Pub Pumpkin Ale
Had a pint at Quinn’s Ale House (5% abv according to bartender, who was very helpful and good humoured). Pint arrived with next to no head. Had a hazy pale orangey appearance. A pretty smooth mouthfeel, a little bit watery. Weak lacing. Aromas are harder to pinpoint with this one, pumpkin spice and malts. Flavour is somewhat strongly leaning towards the hops, but that could very well be something less obvious (to me of course). Not too bad and pretty easy to drink.

Slightly hazy amber colour with a small beige head and decent lacing. Fruity malts (berries, peach, apples), honey and soapy hops. Grainy and fruity malts again in the taste with some typical Ashton hops. Light roasted malt lingers. Decent wet mouthfeel with some nice dryness in the finish. Not sure this is a Maibock, but it is a real good refreshing one. Fruity and well balanced hops and malts.
