Monkey Paw The Big Smoke
Draft. (They seem to be calling it Big Smoky now.) Aroma is more ham than bacon. Flavor is smoky ham, lots of tang (not sweet, not campfire, not BBQ). The smoke carries the beer forward, dominates, but gently. Finishes beautifully, the smoke lingers -- even on the lips.

Monkey Paw Meaty Beety Big N Bouncy
On tap at Monkey Paw, pours an opaque bright pinkish red with a small off-white head. Aroma brings out subdued beet juice upfront, with even more subdued resinous hops. Flavour is big on the resinous hops upfront, with only a touch of beets. From the appearance, one would expect much more beet presence, and I’d actually like some more. Solid IIPA as is.

Monkey Paw / Marin Funky Sea Monkey
Keg at Marin. Pours unclear...grey...with a creamy white head. The nose holds light tangy berries, some salt water, brine, lemon. Light sweet flavour with salty bite, lemony acidity. Light bodied with average carbonation. Dry in the finish, with further lemony acidity, salt, mild sweetness. Honestly, it’s not that bad.

Monkey Paw Thank You
Type: .25L draft Glass: Panama 66 snifter From: Tiger! Tiger! in North Park (San Diego), Calif. Price: $7.00 Purchased: Jan. 5, 2017 Consumed: Jan. 5, 2017 Reviewed as: American Double / Imperial IPA Misc.: N/A This was going to be a very quick review unfortunately due to being rushed. Haven’t had as many Monkey Paw beers as I would have liked, but wanted to have this one, maybe the final one brewed by Cosmo. Didn’t know much about it going in,only that it was a big IIPA. Very dark in this place, but appeared to be a straw gold-to-deep gold yellow color with 3-to-4 fingers of rocky white head when I got it. Light bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass from what I could tell. World-class foamy layered lacing. Excellent foamy retention. (Sight - 4.50) Smelled tropical, citrus, floral, dank, honey, pine and resin. (Smell - 4.00) Tasted boozy up front. Rather spicy as well, guessing Centennial and Simcoe for hops among others. Also floral, tropical, resin and somewhat malty overall. (Taste - 3.75) Medium body. Creamy texture. Lively carbonation. Boozy finish. (Feel - 3.50) Not as balanced as I’d hoped. Pretty good, but not great. (Overall - 3.75) 3.83 86 B+

Monkey Paw 16th & F - Saison
November 9th, 2014 - Monkey Paw is a lovely new discovery for me, small, quaint, and pushing out great beer at prices that attract graduate students and their meagre budgets. This is not my first Monkey Paw beer, but it is the first time it dawned on me how often I’d come here if the location were marginally more convenient. But it is not, so I try to make the most of my visits, like today, where I dip into the style of the season and secure a saison. The color is mostly transparent, save for the condensation on the glass frosting the view, with a lovely golden glow and a thick, inch of foam. The aroma is dry and almost odorless, with just a hint of bread, like matzoh. The flavor is light and slight, with an atmospheric sheen of pear, but served on a nice thick palate, giving the impression of a thick piece of bread with a slight fruit glaze of jam on top.

Monkey Paw Low & Slow Rauchbier
I love the smokey taste of a traditional German Rauchbier and Monkey Paw doesn’t disappoint with this beer. Although I will say it is a a slightly sweeter smoke profile than I am used to with this style. If your looking to pair this with food it goes with just about any red meat from steak to sausage. Just a very fun beer.
