Shared 16 oz. can poured to snifters showing a black/brown hue, with abundant, tan froth, and spots & ribbons of foamy lacing. The nose was roasted, chocolate, malt, and woodiness, with a slight scent of fels naptha-like soapiness. Medium bodied, with low carbonation, the taste retained a bit of the soapiness, presented more of the expected peat smoke, along with roasted & earthy bitterness. Washed out some in the texture, and finished dry.

No dating on the can. A: Itís black, a finger of off white foam, much better than average lacing. S: Light smoke, roasted malt, chocolate, a lactose smell. T: Smoke roasted malt, chocolate, lactose, on the mild side. M: Low side of medium bodied. O: I reckon that this would be a good introductory beer of the smoked kind. A: Hazy yellow, an inch of foam, light with the lacing. S: Pine, grapefruit, a dankness. T: Lemony pine, grapefruit, biscuit or cracker malt. Not as dank as the nose but itís there. M: Mild carbonation with the medium body. O: Enough difference to distinguish it from other American IPAs. Enjoyed it.

A: Cloudy lemon/straw yellow colour, foam and lacing better than average. S: Big noble hop nose with mild notes of bread. T: Noble hops bring a tasty grass, grain and biscuit malt join in. Finishes crisp and dry. M: High end of light bodied. O: I read some of the reviews and they baffled me. My can is tasty and vibrant and a pleasure to drink.

Very tasty stuff. I?ve had a couple Grey Sails before but this one is wonderful. Reminds me of some of the better Ontario IPAs in style. Lots of grapefruit and tangerine with tiny not of pine that makes this prickly like, well, a pine cone... Wonderful mix. Cloudy orange pour with good head and lacing. Light bitter finish. Can thanks to Jow.

Canned on 25/1 & poured into a glass. Nice golden/pale orange colour. Very opaque and a white head. Scent is tropical, lots of orange peel, mango and pinnapple, a really nice aroma. Taste follows - very tropical with some malt balance too, and a bit of spice. I think it is vey tasteful. A nice beer.

Growler from Milk and Hops, Chelsea. Unclear golden-orange color with a thin white head and some spotty streaks of lace on the glass. Aroma comes off a little much diacetyl. Makes it difficult for me to pick out the other components, but I got a little fruit, grass, and spice. Light sweet, with a clean medium bitterness. Taste is less flawed than the nose. Clean, medium body, light dry on the close. Drinks like a much less than 8.5℅ beer. Actually quite like the mouthfeel of this one, even if the aroma and flavor feel flawed. I might have to try this one again (maybe the canned version instead of the draft) to see if this is what it is usually like, because the other reviews seem much better.

Grey Sail Beet Cancer Ale
Draught at American Flatbread, 11/5/16.
Clear, rosy-tinged golden body has light carbonation creating a small, off-white head of moderate to moderately low retention.
Soft, peppery and lightly floral hops mix with dusty grains and moderately fruity esters. A touch of vanilla-like sweetness and very little, if any beet in the nose.
In the mouth itís well-attenuated but with still enough malt to provide a soft texture. Beet character is notable when looked for, but would not be obvious if unknown. Soft honey and vanilla, lots of fruity yeast esters and peppery-herbal hops all provide a very light, refreshing, session ale that is clean and shows no alcohol.
