Greene King Suffolk Explorer
Into a GK tulip at just on cool. Honey amber and bright as bright with a loose, soppy lather of off-white wash atop. Nose hints at vitamin 'C' tablets, weak orange juice and citrus musk candies. Quite drabby and dowdy on the palate. Bitter for no reason and unbalanced by the typically bready, house yeast flavour of most GK beers. It tastes English with an earthy orange dominated flavour profile a long way from those proposed hops that they used. Cardboard and mild plastic notes mid-palate. A bitter bay-like herbal linger in the swallow makes it slightly acrid, but a good note of pine-needle lingers also. Considerably sweet with toffee brittle building to the point of being cloying. I recommend drinking this well-chilled. Light bodied, a little thin and soft in carbonation. Just an average pasteurised, filtered, bottled Bitter. (33cL, no date stamp, 1st Choice Liquor, Riverton)

Morland Old Hoppy Hen (Bottle)
Not too dissimilar from others in the range. Nothing unfortunately to write home about, or to even warrant buying another bottle. Seems a bit harsh, but that’s how it goes. Much better beer out there, other varieties of Hen included.

Creamy beige head stayed on a rich mahogany coloured still body. Malty aroma with festive spices. Medium to full bodied. Crisp on the palate with a smooth tingle on the back. Well spiced tastes with clove, demerara, fruity berries, malt & aniseed. The ABV is well hidden leaving an easy going, drinkable ale.

Craft Academy Bitter Sweet Black IPA
Bottled 0,33L. Intence and elegant ruby reddish hazy color, much charged and fraught aspect with foamy head of long duration. Not much intence nose, notes of aged grapes, yeast, softly hop and caramel cortex. Equilibrate and round prickly mouth, I feel the "sweet" in the beer name, but not the "bitter". Soft sour and aged grapes mouth, pleasnat and equilibrate final.

Supposedly inspired by 'bold American IPAs' but not resembling one in the slightest. Slightly skunky and bland grassy aroma and one dimensional taste, better than lager but not mch more so

Where Purchased: 500ml bottle from the LCBO Consumed: from a draught glass Aroma: Smells slightly sweet and spicy. Not much else there. Appearance : filtered dark red brown with lots of head that disappears mid drink. Lacing lasts halfway. Taste: a little on the bland side. Some sweet and spicy notes. Hops not really present. Palate : medium body. Bitter aftertaste. Good carbonation. Overall: It was laking flavour. Too bland. Was hoping for some decent holiday spice. Would never know it was 6% ABV though. I was glad to try but will not buy again. MB. The Beer "Bear"on.

A wise man once said to me “never drink anything that come from a clear glass bottle”.... he wasn’t wrong. Pours a deep mahogany almost black with a one finger frothy tan head that didn’t stay. Nose initially has an abundant chocolate and coffee bouquet with hints of dried fruits and a tad of ferrous iron note. Mouthfeel is thin and pretty lifeless No big flavours come through but there’s a bit of a coffee hit at first; soon this has an underlying brief fruitiness that developed more into a cheep dry red wine quality. Then there’s a harsher but leaner lingering stick of liquorice to the finish. Not a good example of this style.

Aroma: Medium berries, earthy. Medium-light citrus, pithy. Appearance: Brilliant, golden body. Small, white head. Good retention. Lacing. Small to fine bubbles. Flavour: High bitterness, Medium-high citrus, pith. Medium berries, earthy. Medium-light bready. Dry finish with lingering citrus, bitterness. Mouthfeel: Medium body. Medium carbonation. Overall: Good hop presentation in flavour and aroma. The malt notes are quite subdued, but the backbone/support is good. Can do with more complexity. 330 ml bottle, poured.

Decent on cask but bottle is thin and quite tasteless in comparison. Rating from pre RateBeer days, taken from notes in my 1001 Beers book, where I gave this a 2/5.

Cheap clear glass bottle from a supermarket. I know it's wrong but I like it. Snuffed out candle and warm cinnamon swirl aroma. Grotesque soup of ham-fisted clove, cinnamon loaf, roasted nut and candle dunks; dense-foamed, vibrant bronze and lacy. Disgusting.

Lovely dark ruby pour, with a small off white head. Aroma is malty, slightly nutty with some nice up front UK hops. Nothing complicated, but very well made and nice to drink. Subtle spice, good hops, sweet, toffee, nutty malts. Nice stuff.

A pint in the Catcher in the Rye, Finchley. Just the right ballance of spice and bitternes, sometimes a problem for me with the christmas ales but the rocking rudolf does it just right and you get a nice taste, all around for only 4.2%.

Bottle: Poured a clear brown color ale with a light off-white foamy head with OK retention and limited amount of lacing. Aroma of residuals sugar notes with some dry caramelized malt. Taste is also a mix of caramelized malt notes with residual sugar notes and subtle dry fruits notes. Body is light with good carbonation. Not overly complex but enjoyable for what it is.

Bottle from Seiyu. Pours dark reddish brown, caramel coloured. Some foam that is gone quickly. Tastes lightly bitter, lots of caramel and luckily not too sweet. Some herbal thing going on, bit of liquorice. Overall, not really that impressive, a bit watery and caramelly. Not too bad either.

Greene King Double Hop Monster (Bottle / Keg)
Bottle from Seiyu. Pours golden, some foam (that does not stay). Nose has lots of citrus, some malty backbone that is covered with lots of citrus hops.Taste is creamy, also some citric bitterness, quite well balanced with grainy body and drinks quite nicely actually. Nothing monstrous with this one, just hoppy pale ale, not even IPA bitterness here. Finish has some drier citric linger. Overall, not too bad.

Greene King St. Edmund's Golden Beer (Bottle)
Bottle from Seiyu. Pours bright golden and clear, some foam at first but does not stay around for too long. Nose is biscuity, light touch of wet hops but otherwise some bread crumbs, soaked, hint of caramel. Drinks soft, light bitterness, mainly malty - and somewhat watery. Not really anything to write home about, simple ale that feels like a macro one. Drinkable but well, probably won't be buying this again.
