Pour from a bomber. Dark brown, clear, low carbonation. Little to no head. Oxidized nose and taste. Metallic copper nose somehow, which is not very appealing. The taste is slightly better. This beer is skewed a step or two sour - not sure if this is on purpose or not, but it is my understanding that old British styles were basically all soured. Fig, apple, sour raisin.

Below Grade Volksvitzen Amber
My bottle has a different label - not sure if it should be a new entry or not. Style is described as a ’Double Hefe’ not an amber (also described as a weissbock), also has a green label instead of red. Still says ’Volksvitzen’ on the top of the label. I’m sure someone will sort it out! 6.8% abv handwritten on the bottle. Ok the rating. Pours a slightly hazy golden yellow color with a slight white head. Nose is wheat and slightly lemon. Wheat in the taste quickly moves to an almost Belgian spice with a blanket of lactic sourness on the finish. I don’t know if this is what these guys were going for, but it’s excellent!!

Orange-straw with an abundant white head. Fruity, lightly funky/cheesy aroma. Tangerine, nectarine, light vinegar tartness, light raisin, unripe pineapple and some out of place simplistic, light malt sweetness. Really strange, strange stuff. Not really in a good way... I’m not sure I understand what the intention was behind this beer (if there was one at all). Not funky or tart enough to be a wild ale and way too dirty to be a decent IPA. I’m pretty much done with this brewery.

Below Grade Volksvitzen Amber
Pours hazy orange amber with literally no head. Weird vinous acidic nose. Very wine like musty flavor, with a strange tart finish. Tastes infected and has zero carb. Really awful all around, literally nothing good to say about this.

Wonderfully refreshing beer. Smooth and sweet. Higher ABV than normal so if you're looking for a game changer this is it.

22oz bomber pours with a mahogany colored body that supports a dark tan head. The aroma is very mild with malts, some fruity esters and a can of mineral metal like old pennies. The taste offers up sweetness, apples and apricot sweet fruity esters and then it moves into some roasted malts and an off-putting tart sort of metallic note. This isn’t working all that well.

Brown color, tan head. No aroma to speak of. Flavor? Pennies, rust and pool water. Awful. Just awful.

Yellow-gold pour with a white head. The aroma is full of orange and pine. The flavor has some orange and peach notes as well as some biscuit malt and a low amount of bitterness. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Bought a 22oz at a local store in Bend. Drove home and poured into a large sniffer and drank it in 2 pours letting the second one warm up a little. Resin aroma with slight citrus, light CO2 Copper hazy color with bright white head. Tight bubbles Slightly sweet w/a a nice hop bitterness not to over done for 100+ ibu Good body for imperial overall a good beer for it’s style.

Below Grade Identity Crisis Sour IPA
Released fall 2012 Identity Crisis Sour IPA, Farmhouse Style Ale From the bottle: "This beer is a blend of naturally soured versions of Validation Imperial IPA and Nevermind White IPA. These beers went through a regular primary fermentation, then an extended dry-hopped open fermentation. The result is a crisp, slightly sour brew with grapefruit and pineapple notes imparted by Mother Nature." Murky peach colored with some loose cream foam falls away quickly to a etched surface. Spruce tips, resin, a little lemon and some BO. Flavor is bitter, then bicarbonate and then some light tartness that reminds me of sweetened ruby grapefruit. I’m uncertain of all the character on it, but it’s interestingly nuanced. Medium on full bodied with a tight and sharp carb and a bit of a wet finish. Nice beer, very fun.

Strange nose of feet bile orange pepper lemon like acidity. Orange pour thin white head and soft lace. Flavors of orange lemon funky lactic bile notes a little herbal. Very interesting. Tangy bright carbonation. This couldn't have been done on purpose. Not bad. "Meh" (Jon, 2006).

Bottle at Endo’s house, from Newport Avenue Market Bend, 24/05/13, listed as 8.6% on the label. Light black with a thin tan head. Nose is dank hops, cocoa, bitter fruit notes, damp clothes. Taste comprises dark toffee, biscuit, light hops, sugars. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, dryish finish with light hop notes. A poor showing for a CDA, more akin to a sub par stout, no balance, no hops, no pine. NO !!!

Bottle @ a recent tasting... Poured pale, golden with a thin head. Nice character on this one. But overall underwhelming. Mild acid, with bugs on some citrus hop characters. Infected IPA?

Bottled. Pours slightly hazy light orange. Short head that finishes as a thin film. Light citrus, yeast, and a touch of funk. Light sweet, light sour - pleasant flavor. Light body, solid carbonation, thin-oily texture, and a dry tart-grapefruit finish. Another excellent effort.

Bomber. Holy cow, I didn’t expect this. Near flawless pour. Large white head that disappates to a neverending film atop the beautiful hazy orange-yellow body. Excellent retention and solid lacing. Easy 4. Aroma as advertised.. bright citrus, floral, and spicy. Light wheat sweet and light bitter flavor. Light body, medium carbonation, thin-sticky texture, and a light bitter-sweet finish. The abv is well hidden. I can’t wait to try another Below Grade brew.
