Drakes Foraging Racoon
Golden with a white head - Tropical fruity hop aroma - Malt body to support a hop flavour that is tropical fruity with citrus and bitterness - The tropical fruity flavour goes into a dry bitter finish with some citrus notes - This was good

Drakes 1500 Pale Ale
Thanks Carl! A bottle a bit past prime, but still a nice smooth pale that had traces of the big citrusy hops. A bit of grainy body. Good stuff.

Drakes IPA
355ml bottle from Good Spirits Co. Wine & Beer, Glasgow (£3.80):
Very nice stuff from Drake’s here & an unexpected taste from the beer given I was expected a tonne of hops before cracking the bottle open. The beer was definitely closer to an American pale ale of today than it was an IPA but it was first brewed 15 years ago & a lot has changed since then, still the beer was excellent with a lot of caramel flavours & a strong, malty taste in the early going. The nose in particular was a sweet one with only a few pine hops & floral notes backing them up, the balance was still maintained though & the beer went down very easily indeed; good stuff & one I wouldn’t mind cracking open again at some point.

Drakes Hop Vice
Bottle from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours translucent gold with a creamy white head. Aroma is citrus, and there’s a hint of dankness in the depths. And some non-tropical fruit. Med body or so. Flavor is citrus, earth, white berry and something that "tickles". Another mystery. Pepper? Doesn’t seem so. Anyway it’s fairly mild, but tastes ok. Seems to have the level of bitterness I can associate with dank, but that term doesn’t seem to apply. Ah well.

Drakes Hefe
Bottle from The Bottle Shop Bermondsey and drunk at home. Hazy gold colour lasting white head. Banana ester aroma Good mouthfeel. Just those bigger bubbles you seem to get on hefe. Simple fruity hefe rather than herby. Hops are quite soft too. Not overly bitter. It’s quite easy drinking. It’s fine drinkable enough without being challenging. Would like a bit more character. A light hefe.

Drakes Headzo! (2014 Wild Turkey Barrel)
500 ml bottle that AdamChandler stored away from our trip to CA in 2014, wow! Color shows a nearly clear golden Amber, very low carbonation. Aroma is mild Brandy (yes, it was Wild Turkey) but it has evolved. Aroma is really unique, Brandy, bourbon, hints of English toffee.

The flavor is like half aged barley wine and an Old Ale with a complex malt profile. Very mild warming sensation without any alcohol flavor. Gosh damn , deep and decadent. Awesome!

500ML Corked & Caged. Acquired @ Drake’s

A - Oily thick golden orange color. no head at all.

S - This smells amazing. Juicy almost like old mango with vanilla wafers. Smells like a great vanilla cognac.

T - This is amazing. Siky smooth, vanilla, peppers, old pineapple, oranges and cognac.

M - Very slick, oily, very dense, it leaves a juicy finish.

O - Quite possibly the best Drake’s beer I’ve ever had.

Drakes Brightside - Mojito
Tap at Drakes. Dark yellow. Lemony wheat with an underlayer of mint on the nose. The lime and mint really play nice on the tongue, especially the aftertaste. I can’t imagine anyone that likes mojito and likes beer not digging this. Never had the base Berliner...

Tap at Drake’s. Orange hued yellow gold. Aroma is more sour leaning at first, as is the first sip, but the coffee is there, if subtle (comes out more as it sits). Some lemony lightly acidic pucker and coffee in delicate balance. I liked this one, my wife LOVED it,

Drakes 510 Malt Liqour - Rye Barrel Aged
Tap at Drake’s. Medium golden. Sweet n spicy rye barrel aroma and flavor. Very very smooth. It’s really more about the barrel than the beer, especially as I have no base reference for this one...just lightly sweeter (and weaker) hi west rye. Gotta admit I dug it, though.

Drakes Headzo! (2016 Bourbon & Port Barrel)
Bottle @ Mike’s House. Pours a rich copper color with minimal foam, but I guess that’s not surprising. This beer is absolutely intense in every way. Massive sweetness of caramel, maple, brown sugar, cognac, and port. Tons of raisin, cherry, currant, vanilla, and oak as well. There is, surprisingly, not a ton of alcohol or heat to it, though it definitely feels like a big beer. Thick and syrupy on the tongue. Almost like drinking boozy molasses. Tastes good for a small pour, but that’s about all a normal human being should have.

Drakes Santa’s Brass
Bottle from a trade. Nearly black pour. Small off white head. Tons of toffee in the nose. Modest alcohol. Slight paper. Some fusels. Taste is interesting. Complex. Let me work on this. Lots of slick vanilla sweetness. Modest evaporation of alcohol off the tongue. Definite warming in the ears. Soft caramel in the finish. Seemingly sweet and unbalanced. Needs some dang bitterness to balance. This is borderline cloying. Very glad I split this 375ml but wish it was with more people. Good but not drinkable. Like. Two ounces is perfect. Any more is unnecessary.

Drakes Hopocalypse DIPA (Green Label)
Bottle from QC, drank w Matt before his trip for Ian’s and Alexis’ weddings. Pours a clear orange-copper, off-white head. Oily resin hop, perhaps a little unfresh (in that slightly flat sweetish way), malt, apple juice, some corn, lemony light spice. Boozy. Body is very oily, thick but smooth. Slick and very resinous.

Bottle from QClub at home before trip. Translucent yellow copper pour with sticky lacing white head. Aroma is dank resin with apple juice maltiness. Taste is deep resin bitter and booze. A bit flat like it’s not been transported that well (but only bottled 3 months ago). With some heavy maltiness that subdues it all. Some lasting boozy bitter warmth. Straightforward resiny DIPA.

Golden, lasting fresh lace. Big orange aroma, very fragrant, light floral, clementine, toast, honey... Loads of different aromas. And tastes too, very full, great full bodied bitterness, sweet balance, very satisfying. Yummy! A beer that really was worth celebrating my 6000th!
