Leinenkugels Grapefruit Shandy
From the first sip of the creamy head to the last drop of this golden brew, it has by far the most refreshing taste all the more enhanced by the crisp grapefruit aroma and flavor. It is light and smooth, a perfect drink for the hottest summer day or night. Well paired with grilled chicken and fire roasted corn or grilled salmon and tricolor sweet pepper kabobs. Or enjoyed by itself with friends and family at a bonfire! Grab as many six packs you can carry, because when your friends get a taste of yours, they are going to want more your Leinenkugels Grapefruit Shandy.

355m twist off embossed bottle. This is not the greatest. A malty and boozy oktoberfest to kick off the summer isn’t really what I was looking for.

Leinenkugels Northwoods Lager
Bottle, not retired. Looks like pale lager, but certainly more quality here than a cheap pale lager. A better attitude towards pale lager fer sher. Mine says 4.9%. Nearly noticable sweet perfume cream corn aroma. Smooth and on par with any cheap macro - lite er not - as far as drinkability goes. Easy and it goes down easy, nice job LK. Refreshing summer tasks beer? Let me try!

Leinenkugels Grapefruit Shandy
Smells like grapefruit, tastes like grapefruit without the sourness or bitterness, though it manages this without being overly sweet. Pours golden and hazy, everyone agrees on that. As a fan of citrusy beers, I have to say this is one of my favorites, even though I do not eat grapefruit, ever. I was late to the Summer Shandy party (not sure why the word "shandy" makes me cringe) but now I really enjoy it in the summer, and I like the grapefruit variety even better. My favorite fruity beer, and the best of Leinenkugel’s shandy line.

Leinenkugels Watermelon Shandy
Tasty shandy - similar to the Summer Shandy everyone knows but with a bit of watermelon flavor (duh). Not sour or tart really, and doesn’t taste like fake watermelon, a la watermelon candy. Very smooth and drinkable, but still at least seems like actual beer. I prefer their grapefruit (same sampler pack as this) but the watermelon does not disappoint. Very nice on a warm day.

Leinenkugels Watermelon Shandy
12 ounce bottle into pint glass, best before 5/29/2017. Pours hazy medium golden/amber color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of watermelon candy, lemon, lime, orange zest, pear, apple, wheat, cracker, and white bread; with light honey, pepper, clove, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of watermelon, pale malt, light earthy hop, and fruity/spicy yeast notes; with solid strength. Taste of watermelon candy, lemon, lime, orange zest, pear, apple, wheat, cracker, and white bread; with light honey, pepper, clove, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Light herbal bitterness, yeast spiciness, and slight fruit tartness on the finish. Lingering notes of watermelon candy, lemon, lime, orange zest, pear, apple, wheat, bread, light honey/pepper, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice robustness and balance of watermelon, pale malt, light earthy hop, and fruity/spicy yeast flavors; with a great malt/bitter/spiciness balance, and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Moderate dryness from carbonation and bitter/spiciness, increasing through the glass. Medium-high carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, crisp, fairly bready/grainy, and slightly sticky/acidic balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 4.2%. Overall this is a good shandy style. All around good robustness and balance of watermelon, pale malt, light earthy hop, and fruity/spicy yeast flavors; very smooth, crisp, and refreshing to drink. Nicely flavorful for the ABV. Never overwhelming on the watermelon, and doesn’t get too artificial feeling. Solid yeast presence and malt backbone. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Bright copper color with a modest, beige head. Very mellow scent, that meaning nearly not there. Some grains and a touch of floral to herbal hops. Light sweet start with a bit of caramel malt. A touch earthy. A little bit of spice, I would have guessed some rye. Really had hoped for something that came closer to the Leinie’s Limited, but perhaps my memories just think that was better. A fairly crisp average lager.

Leinenkugels Spiced Pear Shandy
Hazy dark copper with a spotty off white head. Brisk autumnal spiced nose with gentle cinnamon and apple pie filling (but with pear instead) with a gentle sweet holiday pumpkin spiced bread tone. Brisk flavor that’s a little winter-spiced with gentle sweet pear and pie-filling tones, crisp wheaty tones and a nice spiced pear finish that’s gently sweet. I thought I would hate it but it’s pretty nice.

OK, now I am really disappointed. The tap beer from Germany is fantastic, the bottles from Chippewa Falls really poor. It would appear that they have "Americanized" the German Märzen beer style by dry hopping the beer, or as I suspect, by simply adding processed hop oil to the beer. The beer pours a clear amber with a white head. The aroma is of dry hops. The flavor is also dominated by hops with very little malt character. If you like an amber beer like Samuel Adam´s Boston Lager, then you will like this. Otherwise, stay with the draft beer from Germany. It continues to amaze me that Leinenkugel´s refuses to produce a quality beer even for its 150th. anniversary. Just once forget the profit margin and brew a beer with barley malt instead of high fructose corn syrup. But no, keep pumping out this crap.
