Side Project Provence: Cup Of Love
Tasted in a stemmed tulip glass at Side Project Brewing tap room, thanks Cory! Slightly hazy golden colour with off-white foam, lasting with lace. Familiar saison traits with extra floral, herbal, tannic. Crisp Pils grainbill, black pepper, clove, citrus. Light grainy mouthfeel, dry finish, but not thin or watery at all. High carbonation, digestive. Definitely tart, into sour territory. Delicious, masterfully made.

Side Project Saison du Blé
#6 tasted in a stemmed tulip glass at Side Project Brewing tap room, thanks Cory! Mostly clear golden colour with white foam, lasting with lace. Familiar saison traits plus lightly toasted American oak foudre aging. Faint vanillin, campfire marshmallow. Crisp Pils grainbill, just enough peppery hops, hint of clove. Soda cracker mouthfeel, dry finish, but not thin or watery at all. High carbonation, digestive. Tart but not excessively sour nor funky. Delicious, no wonder it’s so highly rated, stands up to the hype.

Side Project Längst
Bottle at Side Project Cellar. 750 mL bottle shared by a stranger. Thanks man! The pour is a darker brown/black with a bubbly tan head and no lace. The aroma is malty and sweet with a light oak char and a light lager yeast. Very caramelly. The flavor is great. Lots of roasted malts and a light German influence. Thebseeet caramel lasts and lasts. This is surprisingly great for what I was expecting. The mouth feel is decently thick and creamy with a bright carbonation and a lingeringly sweet. Oh man this is good.

Side Project Merci Blend #3
Bottle at Side Project Cellar. 750 mL blend 3. The pourbisba beautiful crisp golden orange with a thick white head that falls down slowly with a couple spots of lace. The aroma is tart, crisp, complex and fruity, lightly yeasty, and full of oak. Oh damn. The flavor is even better. Crisp and clean with a tartness that is reminiscent of a light stone fruit. The mouth feel is clean and bright with a sharper carbonation and a lingeringly beautiful tart fruitiness. Oh snap.

Side Project Apple Brandy Barrel Derivation
My god. I tried to find a reason to not like this. Bottle at Side Project Cellar. 750 mL. The pour is a thick motor oil black with a tiny ring of dark brown head that just vanishes in a hurry with no sign or lace. This just stains the glass. The aroma is full of brandy. There is a heavy chocolate fudge and light maltiness. It’s sweet and balanced without having much alcohol at all. This is incredible. The fudginess is just great. The flavor is even better. Thick and heavy chocolate and fudge batter with a light maltiness and a strong oak and brandy candy addition. There is hardly any apple and the alcohol is again well hidden. The mouth feel is thick and viscous as hell with a soft carbonation and a lingering brandy and oak fudge that stains the mouth. This is effing incredible.

Side Project La Fosse
Bottle at Side Project Cellar. 375 mL. The pour is a bright golden yellow with a thin ring of white head and a spot or two of lace as it falls down. The aroma is sour apricots and a beautiful oak and pit. The sournis huge, but the fruit is equally amazing. The flavor is even better. Fruit flesh and a big sour before a pit and light oak come rolling in. The mouth feel is crisp and clean with a great sour and a bright carbonation to go with the big time fruit and just fantastic dry sour on the finish. Hell. Yes.

750ml bottle shared with Marc-André yesterday evening. Aroma: great complex oaky aroma, dark red fruits, blackberries, cherries, red wine, bit of bourbon (vanilla). App: dark brown with red tint, huge head, little lacing. Big gushing at opening. Taste and palate: medium body, vinous, light to moderate acidity finish. Overall: wow. I so like Side Project. This one is no exception. Amazing aroma, taste and perfect palate. I need more of this.

Fruited sour beers made with blueberries are really hard to pull off, in my experience, because the flavor from the berries gets stripped away in the fermentation. Theyve done as much as they can with it, here, but, while the berries add a bit of tannins and complexity, not much bluberry flavor gets through. Still, its a good effort, with a lot of tartness and oak tannin coming through.

Bottle, extremely generously shared by a non-RB friend from his cellar. This is spectacular. Every aspect of this beer comes together just right. Its full of distinct flavors, with a light, farmhouse funk that brings out apple and grape flavors, a moderate sourness that accentuates the fruit notes, and a big oak hit from the extended barrel aging. And the blending was done superbly -- it builds and improves on each individual component of the blend. I rank this right up there with some of the best beer Ive ever had, from anywhere in the world.

From notes. Enjoyed at a tasting at Corbet’s on May 18. 375 mL bottle. Damn happy I got to try this one! The pour is a cloudy golden yellow color with a thick white head that falls down quickly with a little soapy lace to it. There is a strong oakiness to it and a light funk, but it’s clean, delicate, and lovely. There is a hint of vinousness and a light tart wine barrel. I love it. The flavor is a little better. There is the funkiness, but the dry wine really comes through softly with some white wine character and a nice citrus tartness. There is a light fruit flesh and a lovely dry funk through the back end. The mouth feel is crisp and clean with a bright carbonation and a lingeringly funky tart white wine soaked oak on the back end. This is effing great!

From notes. Enjoyed at a tasting at Corbet’s on May 18. 750 mL. Blend 1. The pour is a nice hazy golden orange with a thicker white head that vanishes pretty quickly with a decent lace left behind. The aroma is good. There is a lovely tartness and a very delicate fruitiness that I’m enjoying. There is a hint of citrus and a light oak that drags on forever. The flavor is just as good. The blackberry s a little delicate and almost absent, which is a bummer, but the light citrus and hint of tartness really clean up and finish strong. There is a hint of oak on the back end that I like. The mouth feel is light and delicate with a brighter carbonation and a lingeringly crisp and tart finish with just a hint of oak and berry. This is a damn good and well balanced beer from SP. I like it.

750 ml bottle from phaleslu. Thanks! The beer is a clear gold with a white head of foam. Good head retention. The aroma has a dry red wine character along with a mellow low level funk. Soft acidity. The pinot noir shows through in the finish especially well. The pinot noir version is more well rounded and leas acidic than the base beer. Overall very good, but i lean toward the base beer as my preference.

750 ml bottle via trade. Blend #1. Pours a clear vivid gold with a finger or so of white head that takes a while to settle into a thick ring. This one is really nice and funky, with notes of lemon, oak, vanilla, lime, white wine grapes, supporting wheat malts, subtle lemongrass herbs and spice, and barnyard funk throughout. A tad sweeter than expected, but in really nice balance. Medium-bodied, with moderate to medium carbonation and a tart, funky, semi-sweet mouthfeel. Excellent.

750 ml bottle from phaleslu. Thanks! Poured into a brandy snifter. The beer is a moderately hazy gold with a fizzy head of white foam. It dissipates quickly, like a soda would do. The aroma has notes of stone fruit, straw, grass, and bread. The bready notes are dry, kind of like bread crumbs. Taste has a low level acidic bite, but it can’t seem to stand up to the dry, nearly floral bitterness. Lighter to medium body, high carbonation. Very bubbly in the mouth. Great beer. Nice to have this on a warm day like today.

Murky dark brown color. Aroma is Flanders red malt with a bright candy sour. Taste is Red wine, sour brown. Medium acidity with red apple sour. Subtitle Oak and funk. Coffee and blueberry comes through as it warms. A unique blend of several different flavors that works very well together.

Third time I’ve had this and every time it’s a bit different. Started out with a little funk and sourness, and was much more of a sour brown the first couple times.
