Pike Old Bawdy
August 8, 2014 - with blankboy, gregclow, jercraigs and mabel. Bomber. Ruby-copper pour, nice creamy tan mottled head. Hoo yeah, US barleywine aroma all right - alcohol, floral/resin bitterness - lots of sweet cereal/gluten grain. Taste follows - strong, malty and big bitterness to match - just the thing (8+). Solid body, chewy, decent carbonation - big mellow bitter/boozy/malty finish ... I would grab this again in a shot.

Pike Space Needle Golden IPA
Can from Total Wine, South Richmond. Pours hazy amber with a large, soft beige head. Aroma is floral and citrus hops, some hand soap, some pine, some resin. Flavor is hand soap all the way. This is what hand soap would taste like if if I ate it and it tasted like I imagined it to rather than what it really does. Citrus peel, floral hops, a little tropical fruitiness. Its good.

Pale copper with a white head. Toasted malt presence in the aroma that fades out of the flavor and reasserts itself in the finish. Light crisp hops and carbonation. Some bright fruits. Decent.

Pike Kilt Lifter
On tap at brewery on 1st Street, downtown Seattle. Pours clear amber with minimal off-white head and lacing. Aroma: mild whiff of caramel. Flavor: malt-forward; caramel, brown sugar, overly ripe pear, smokey peat to offset sweetness. My son accurately describes it as a roller-coaster ride: sweet, smokey, then fruity. Mouthfeel: medium-bodied, oily, soft on palette.

12-ounce bottle pours mostly clear golden with small white head and lacing. Aroma: clove, banana, honey, lemon. Flavor: sweet malt, honey, banana, bubblegum, yeast, white pepper -- with a lingering sweet caramelized banana. Mouthfeel: full-bodied, rich. Similar in taste to Golden Monkey by Victory Brewing in Pennsylvania, yet with additional sweetness (too much for me for this style).

12 oz can from Pilgrim’s. Aroma is grainy, honey, SweeTarts. Pours hazy golden with a one finger white head that falls quickly into a ring. Taste is sweet with a strong honey flavor; finishes with a light bitterness. Most honey beers I’ve had have just a hint of the flavor, but this is really strong here. Not sure how this is a Belgian style ale. Just tastes like a golden ale with honey. Better than I expected.

Pike XXXXX Stout
Tasty coffee-ish stout on tap at World Beer "Museum" in Osaka (Umeda). Crisp, clean, slight walnut tree type smell. Great head that lasts a while. Super dark; light does not penetrate even when help up to lights. Traditional roasted nut and coffee flavors. Saliva glands respond well. Will definitely drink many more of these. Top shelf!

Bomber, 2012 vintage. Caramel malt aroma with notes of peaty smoke, dark fruit and grassy and floral hops. Pours cloudy caramel colored with a thin tan head that has little retention or lacing. Starts with caramel malt and dark fruit flavors with peaty smoke notes. Finishes dry with grassy and floral hops as well as light citrus hops. Pretty good barleywine.

This gets worse as it goes along. Smells nicely of grass and molasses, with a nice similar first flavor. However, it gets sweeter the deeper in the bottle get, which, for a 2-year old bottle isn’t great. Maybe it’ll mellow out even more as it gets older, but I was hoping for a bit more here.

Pike Hive Five
Vigorously carbonated, lumnous copper brew with a resilient head fed by constantly rising bubbles. Delightfully spicy honeyed nose that melds wonderfully with grains smelling like fresh wort. A touch of spring flowers adds an enchanting note. Wet honeyed body with the consistent spicy notes and some tannin at the back of the palate. Seems rather thin for a honey-based beer, would benefit from some more body. Some spicy herbal notes through the finish
